1. The best-case scenario is retaining Melo at a digestable number (say, 15-17 million per) so you can afford a couple of more max contracts and have him in place to help with free agent gathering in 2015...

AND

2. The worst-case scenario is paying him 130 million dollars and sinking salary cap space and flexibility for 5 seasons.

As far as trades go, Houston is probably the best partner. I don't think Chicago will go the sign-and-trade route because they're waiting on Rose and are in position to dismantle in the event he doesn't get back to form. I also hate Gibson's contract. Lin/Asik/filler is much better because Asik is a cheap rotational player in the long-term and he makes Tyson Chandler replacable if I can trade him for a pick.

I don't care if you love carmelo... I actually sympathize with some of his fans.. but don't tell me I am not a fan because I don't like this dude.. I have stated why I don't like him and why I don't want him on this team, and it is all basketball related.. I dislike him because I like the knicks more.. this clown, JR smith are at the bottom of my basketball list.. and for good reasons..

yea, and those fans are the extremist.. they seem to care more about the knicks as long as carmelo "leads" the way.. it is odd.. If any player I feel is hurting my team... I want him gone... there will be no love for that player....

The Idea of some or you wanted to get rid of a top 5 talent, now that he has the right guy in place to help in mature and take his game to the next leverl, is about as dumb as he gets.

you aren't going to get melo to mature. that's a big assumption, and i am sure jackson will consider that lack of potential if he makes an offer to extend melo. but then jackson has to also feel comfortable that melo is teachable, coachable, a genuine student of the game, and will dedicate himself to getting in supreme shape. i haven't seen it so i am pessimistic.

personally if i thought melo were smarter he might be able to be a wing in the triangle-- the midpost position is out of the question with him-- but jackson is going to make that judgement. personally i hope they let melo walk unless he agrees to play for 12-13 million. jackson should not be thinking what the market will bear, although i am sure melo would be, seeing how greedy he has been-- we should be thinking about what is the absolute best thing for the knicks for a change. paying carmelo 14-17 million and hoping he can learn the triangle seems like a very dubious proposition.

My favorite player doesn't even play on the knicks.. I had players I liked, when they were traded, I still wanted what was best for the knicks...,I would never want whats best for a player over the team... you have a problem with that?

Pual george and lou deng..Don't make me laugh, lou deng was sold for a bag of rocks, and paul george while is a solid defender, has been missing in action, and there's been a slew of indi fans that will agree with me.

I like defense just as much, but niether of those guys are top flight defenders (maybe george, deng can stay healthy). melo takes both of them one on one easy and you know it..
