He's gonna look to survive with Bargs at C for some minutes until he can bring in other guys off the bench. Bargs should be fine in stretches at C. He's played there before and in truth if the other players on the floor are defending their positions better it won't be such a layup fest as we've seen. Our C's have to work too hard to cover for the poor defense on the perimeter. Love Shump but he gambles too much, Felton can't hold anyone and we know Melo isn't really defending at a high level either. Defense is a team thing. Tyson just covers up so much that is wrong defensively with the rest of the floor. I've said this before, but Bargs isn't the one getting beat by his man all game. Also if you pay attention Bargs has done a good job closing out on shooters and getting a hand up and distracting shooters. He moves very well. Bargs only issue is that he's not a natural shot blocker and help defender in the paint, cuz he plays like a SF. We'll see what Woody can do with Bargs and if he can teach him better Center defense. WIth a more of a concentration on what he's doing defensively it might help Bargs in the long run.
Bargs hanst been terrible but he hasnt been good either which makes the trade a little upsetting. Hopefully he has a string of good games
It's still only 4 games in and we know he wasn't at full tilt coming in off 5 weeks in bed, rather than training, plus he and his teammates not being comfortable yet with his role here. It's gonna take time for chemistry to develop. I wouldn't make any final judgments after just 4 games and in particular with the team as a whole playing so poorly. As I said we have to allow Woody to see if he can coach AB up on his role, which included Bargs playing minutes at C. I wouldn't say the process was over after 4 games.
Bargi's IQ is low, he doesn't know how to rebound, especially in traffic he's almost always out of position , and he plays his man or the ball(like most poor defenders)..
But here's what i did..the entire time AB was on the foor i watched his every move, I didn't pay attention so much to the game, i really just watch how he played.
He blocks shots because of his height, not because he's a shot blocker..If your coming his way he'll block your shot, but he won't pursue a block, he's not going to put much effort into rebounding and blocking shots..IMO thats the difference, good rebounders pursue and position, AB waits by then he's usually out of position. A 7 footer not avg at least 9 to 10 rbs and 2 blocks is a complete joke, especially when 7 footers are rare at the NBA
