I don't think anyone is sold on him at all - which is why we could get him.

Well there are some who think Bargnani was a clear steal which he could be IF he stays healthy and stay motivated whihc have been two big questions marks for him

ANALYSIS: Udrih is a good backup point guard whose salary is a steal. He's a younger, more athletic version of Prigioni who can break down a defense and make plays off the pick-and-roll. Udrih is quick enough to get into the paint and heads-up about making passes, but he's not a great shooter, especially from 3-point range. He also won't have many blow-by drives on defenders, so his passing and court vision will be critical.

It was likely down to Udrih and Bobby Brown, who worked out for the third time with the Knicks on Wednesday, for the third point-guard spot. Udrih, a nine-year veteran, was likely preferred because of his NBA experience, ability to facilitate and make plays for others. Brown has been more of a scoring point guard in his overseas career who was looking to prove he can be more of a pass-first point guard on the NBA level.

With jump shooters Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith and Andrea Bargnani leading the Knicks' offense next season, the team needed another veteran point guard who could keep the offense moving for better shots. It stalled at times last season with too many outside shooters. That's why Udrih was their guy.

Also with Udrih in the mix, Mike Woodson can run a two point-guard backcourt, which he went to many times last season to keep the offense flowing. The extra pass in New York is always needed with their perimeter-style offense.

Like I said in another thread, if Bargs can't put together a good season with Felton/Prigs/Udrih setting him up, Melo attracting the opposing team's defense, and Tyflu Chandler next to him then he shouldn't even be in the league. At bare minimum he should be able to put up 12/4.

I bleed orange and blue for life.

I like Beno and all , but if he caves in and continues the Iso mentality instead of looking it off there is no drastic change just more durability with NBA experience.

This signing tells Ray Ray Felton to keep his head during big games or he might find himself next to coach. Looking forward to see the rotation by Woody, it's exciting.

Playa - what makes you say that about a player with such spicy assist numbers?

Udrih averaged 9.1 points and 3.6 assists per game for his career, but upon being traded from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Orlando Magic last season, his production increased to 10.2 and 6.1, respectively, to close out the season.

Please, why the whining?

I'm not whining Mista, we have to have a pg who sac up and looks off the Iso sometimes when things get tight(be unpredictable).

You and I were so excited when we played the right way early on last season when Iso was limited to late shot clock possessions, not early on the shot clock where the defense rest most of the shot clock.

Playa - I hear you. The player we need to buy into moving the rock is Artest.

Udrih knows how to play the right way.

ROFL @ your answer. Remember Prigs knew how to play the right way too and he caved into our Iso players later in the season/playoffs.

"His momma named him Ron, Imma call him Ron!"

World Peace and Carmelo need to develop the love connection that Amare and Carmelo missed. Up front, Bargnani and Chandler need the telepathy of the dearly departed Marcus Camby and Kurt Thomas.

Can Tim Hardaway Junior get along with Earl Smith Junior?

And what about Jeremy?

It don't mean a thing if the ball don't swing.

I 100% agree with your assessment. Woody cannot be predictable with his ISO sets. He needs to be more than Melo/JR ISO or High Pick and Roll with Chandler/Amare.

Good defensive teams are already on to the Knicks playbook, gotta diversify. More motion, more screens, back cuts, backdoors, and run outs for easy baskets.

He already knows how to use Melo/JR. He's gotta use Bargnani in Pick n Pop, perhaps with Beno. He's gotta use Shumpert in give and go's or backdoors to allow Shumpert to attack the basket. He's gotta post up Artest, when he's got a skinny small forward on him. Etc, etc.

He's gotta utilize all his weapons for the Knicks to be successful.

heeeeeell yeah baby :D finaly a Slovenian playing for the Knicks :D another reason to root for & stay up late to watch the Knicks next season :)
FUCK YEAH! and just fyi, I know since me being Slovenian you'll probably take my words with a pinch of salt on this subject, but what a ****ing deal the Knicks got :) so glad for all parties, Beno should enjoy next season, and the Knicks (aside from a "star" #1 PG) look like they have the PG spot sorted.

The last 2 years Woody's playoff playbook consisted of 3 pages.

1st page: Does melo have the ball? If the answer is yes turn to page 3. If the answer is no turn to page 2.

2nd page: Pass the damn ball to melo now! Turn to page 3.

3rd page: Play complete

and we gain Beno, MWP, Bargs, Hardaway, CJ Lesie, Jeremy Tyler

This has been an overall good offseason when factoring in the limitations we had on us. MWP covers copes production . Beno is a huge get over the nearly dead Kidd. We got youth for the present and future. If Bargs has anything left I think we can surprise everyone in the east again this year.

we also lose 3 draft picks...

I agree, I hated losing the 3 picks for Bargs and you can see that by my many posts in various other threads on the subject. However, those picks don't help us next year. This is the reason why I did not put them there. This list was purely a talent lost vs talent gained list.

I don't get sweating the picks. One pick is the second rounder from the Thunder for the Brewer trade. It is projected to be the second to last pick in next years draft. The other second rounder is for 2017. Melo will be 33 and Tyson will be 34 when that draft happens and most likely it is a late second rounder again. The first rounder should be a late pick. I am not sure where the Nuggets will be but I think the Knicks will still be a top 3-4 team in the east so the pick should be late.

that is why you should sweat the picks, once we move on from this mess, and tyson and carmelo are gone, you are going to need picks to rebuild with.. don't you think?

Papabear Says

OHH so TKF is gonna put his faith in Dolan or the Knicks crew when Melo is gone. I can imagin how much you will love the picks with our track record. I'm so glad you are counting on Dolan.

you may have an eye after all. my impression was brief but my assessment is that he is a very good passer and perhaps a good decision maker on top of that.

perhaps, if he is permitted to make decisions over the course of say... 6-minute intervals, we can find out how good he can truly be as a knick-- big "if" given coaching and personnel here as part of the "established order"-- he will bestow a lot of good things for the investment.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Im very surprised we got Udrih for the minimum. I thought for sure he could get at least 3 mil per year as a backup somewhere. This is a good signing because it allows us to use prigs with felton which was successful.

Grunny gets an F.

I think he would have been also.. and a lot cheaper..

+1

DJ Augustine is a shooting guard in a PG body. Beno is a real PG in a SG body. Prigs is a PG in a SG body.

Felton's defense is way better than DJ. With similar shooting and attacking ability.

I really don't understand the arguement here. If you're going to hate on a player that sits on the end of the bench, you have bigger problems than Woody's playing time strategy......
