JR was the one constant. He played EVERY GAME. Was involved in each of the 54wins

He not only gets credit but he gets a ton of credit in my book

Don't worry Guns, most Knicks fans agree with you.

JR was the best player on our second unit, which overmatched damn near every other team's second unit - even in a year where everyone and their mother was injured. what's not to love about JR Smith? watch the friggin games instead of doing calculations on the box score... JR was amazing this year

LMAO exactly!!!! Most knick fans and apparently those that actually have a real knowledge for the game beyond stats ( He got 71 first place votes) agree with this as well. Everything this team accomplished is trying to be minimized by a select few. Jr really took his craft serious this year, and despite a few incidents off the court, he approached this season as a professional. Once again, this man took less money to stay here and plays hard every night despite some boneheaded plays.

Also, I agree, Woodson has had a huge impact on him. HE even says that he credits his maturity and success to him "not a day that goes by that we don't talk" ... I will take his word for it since .... well.. it's him speaking for himself and not someone making assumptions. The talent was always there, but when you have a coach that motivates you, believe in you and pushes you it makes a world of difference.

Believe in the beginning of the season JR tweeted something to the effect of... look what happens when your in a good position w/ a good coach.

Woody was hands on with Josh Smith too and guess what it didn't work out.

3G4G - Josh Smith?

Really?

Are you talking bout Josh Smith?

yes, he was, i sat behind that hawks bench many games.. He tried to be that figure with josh, he used to get on josh smith repeatedly.... they used to verbal spar in the media, on the court.... Josh didn't like woody's constant use of iso joe.. Josh made reference that many times... believe me, woody tried to no avail with josh..

Not sure how that's a knock against Woody, or has anything to do with JR. Woody reached out to Josh, Josh didn't take to it. Woody reached out to JR, and we're getting very good ball out of it. Not all problem children necessarily grow up.

It could be that JR is playing for a contract, but he was playing for a contract last season as well, and accepted one well below his market value to stay another year +. Everything I've heard is only encouraging of the Woodson/JR relationship. I hope it plays a part in JR signing another contract with us.

The award was well deserved, congratulations JR. If you really want to cash in on a great year, let's see some big things this post season. You're stepping into overtime.

who said it was a knock against woodson ....did I say that? I was just responding to the post that woodson was hands on with josh smith and it didn't work.. sometimes it has a lot to do with the player wanting to do the right thing.. in this case, 3g pointed out how JR smith intentionally tried to sabotage george karl.. he said it himself... now it seems he wants to get paid, so he will play the right way... on his terms.. not sure if that is more woodson, or money...

Whatever it was we are reaping the benefits of a movitated and focused JR this year and thats all that matters to me. Route for the uniform more than the player. We may lose JR but he gave us our best play out of the SG position since H20 Spree and Starks

Not actually directed at your post, just the subject of it - i.e. 3G4G's implying JR's improvement had little to do with Woodson, as Woodson wasn't able to get through to Josh Smith (and 3G4G - correct me if I'm misinterpreting your post). Different men, different approaches. We'll find out next season if this is the new JR or just a temporary moment of clarity, but JR was looking for a contract at the end of last season as well. By far playing better/smarter in his second year with Woody.

Seriously, everytime there's a thread recognizing a Knick player's accomplishiments (this, The Melo scoring title thread, etc), the same 3-4 dudes come in a piss all over the thread by discrediting the the player, the coach or the Knicks in general....

Congrats to JR. If he continues to play smart like he has in the last 4-6 weeks, this guy is an incredible talent. JR making good basketball decisions makes us a legitimate contender and he got a well deserved sixth man of the year. He is a legitimate #2 scorer for this team. Rare for someone to totally refine his game in his ninth NBA season, but I am glad to have him at this point and he deserves to be here.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

they fight because their pride is butthurt. we all know there is no way their stock could be any lower on this board than it is at present. but they're in denial about it. my sig has been my sig for many, many months because those same three or four continue to be loud and proud about whatever it is that they are selling. the good news is the overwhelming majority here view them in the same way the people view radical Islamists - as straight up loonie toons. My pride is not hurt, not all I thought Smith would win...Based on numbers you could argue Jamal should have won but I have no complaints over him winning but I will not ascribe his honor as him morphing into a new player or Woody having the kind of impact as being advertised.

They're doubling down and will keep doubling down until these playoffs are over. JHC, if every good thing that happens to the Knicks makes you want to go on a fan board and piss on them, you might want to think about what is really motivating you. Its becoming clear that it has nothing to do with the best squad this franchise has had in more than a decade.

Tyson for the first 3/4 of the season
Kidd for the first 1/2
Melo for most of the season
Then a smaller role for several others including JR

I would put Tyson at maybe 1/2 the season. He was very sporadic. He started off so slow.

Get COpe in for Novak. Actually Prigs would be nice to help Kidd.

He's not perfect but we're talking about a guy who averaged a double double and was the league's leading offensive rebounder and most efficient scorer. That doesn't get much credit?

It should be painfully OBVIOUS to anyone who has watched this team the last few years that Woodson has managed to connect with JR in a way that Coach Karl was never able to do. JR has even referred to Woodson as a FATHER FIGURE.

He shot poorly during his first season but, improved in almost every other category and defended at a level he rarely if ever did in Denver.

Coach Karl would get on him and he'd get surly or mope on the bench but, when Woodson does it, he doesn't tune him out but, does whatever it takes to please his current coach.

Woodson has pretty much made many players on this team better. Melo has improved under him, Amare took Woodsons challenge and learned a post game, Novak has added a few wrinkles to his game and the Rooks are being developed with Cope getting burn and Prigs learning to take the damn open shot :)

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

based on what numbers? Smith was much better than him on the boards, scored more points, is the FAR SUPERIOR defender. The only things Jamal does better is dribble and "maybe" pass. Not sure how many assists JC was averaging.

Based on those numbers, Smith is the clear winner.
