I don't like Melo but you have to admit that he is having an MVP type season. If he continues this play and the Knicks keep winning then I don't think we can disregard his greatness.

mathematically every team has a chance, not every team at in the same season, but until someone loses 28 games they have a chance. which makes this thread even sillier..

tell me, if the suns winn 55 games, will they have a MVP candidate?

if the warriors win 55+ games will they have one?

sixers?

grizzlies?

hawks?

spurs?

kings?

mavs?

or is it just lebron, durant and of course the best pure scorer in the history of man.. carmeloooooooooooooooooooooooooo?

Actually he's not having one.

Melo is shooting 44% and 35% averaging 27ppg. While his ppg is pretty darn good statistically in comparison to his other seasons his numbers aren't MVP. He happens to be on a team with a 4-0 record therefore by default he's in the race.

Exactly.

FG% has very little to nothing to do with being MVP.

It's silly how people nitpick every single thing he can improve on when he's clearly the best player on what is hopefully one of the best teams.

Kobe is overrated. However, he is still a very good player and does *many* things very well. Melo is just an extreme volume scorer who doesn't excel in any other areas of the game. He fits his role on this team very well and I think this is a perfect situation for him. But he doesn't belong in the conversation of MVPs.

Lebron and Durant are a class ahead of Melo. They are younger. Last two MVP's. Take their Teams to the finals.

Melo can have an MVP season and the knicks can win like that.

Im all for it.

BUt Im not going to say 4 games in he is "having an MVP" season.

4 games is not a season. H could be player of the week? Or the month.

Get a few of those thru the season then your in contention. If your contending, your in the conversation.

Kobe won it for other reasons besides what his offensive numbers suggested....Kobe did not win the MVP award after 4gms.

again, what is it with the Kobe and melo comparisons.... Two different players and from a talent perspective, not even close.... as you said, kobe did not win mpv after 4 games.. I think people need to go back and look at kobe's numbers, better yet, go back and look at some game film....this constant bringing kobe up to validate carmelo is absolutely insane!!!

kobe is as good now, towards the end of his career as carmelo is in his prime... a 27 year old kobe is head and shoulder above carmelo.. why is this even a discussion?

The poster claimed Melos play right now is too inefficient statwise.

I'm not comparing the players themselves.

both bryant and melo are the least efficient scorers in the league. the eFG% and the TS% lag well behind the likes of lbj, dirk, wade, durant.

it is one of the reasons why they have always been divisive figures, where they are overrated by many and lionized by many. my opinion has always been that bryant is overrated and he should count his blessings that he played for a franchise that has friends in high places like memphis, and that they had shaq during his prime.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

I wouldn't go that far on the latter.

No one has won multiple titles without superior talent.

Kobe is superior talent.

i have no quibble with his being a superior talent to melo. what they have in common is that they are overrated as scorers. bryant had a ton of help but he is a more well-rounded player whereas melo is not that well-rounded. it will be an interesting test for bryant to see how well he adapts to the presence of nash. i actually think he will adapt-- it is a question of will not a question of skill.

at the end of the day i think bryant needed more help than other championship players did and it is due directly to his scoring inefficiency.

44% okay but if Melo made just 1 more shot a game he'd be shooting 49% not hard to fix, his defense has been excellent he has a better defensive rating than LBJ and KD, his team is undefeated he has a case for MVP

And TKF still wont answer my question
