It was a thoughtless comment and if this contract is pissing off the other players, then it needs to be discussed behind closed doors amongst themselves, not to the media. If not, then we simply don't have adults playing for the Knicks. Thus making them even less attractive to watch.

Every day, Smith proves to me I was right that the Knicks shouldn't have signed him. He's a pure headache.

As much as a bonehead JR Smith can be off the court, he helped the Knicks on the court Big time by taking less money. Neither Landry nor Lin did the Knicks any favors, I have much more respect for JR then either of those 2 right now...

1) JR Smith was as efficent a player as they came last season so I didn't see how he helped that much. 2) It's called business. Fields and Lin need to get as much money as they can get. It's not charity and neither of the owe the Knicks favors. They played to their previous contracts fine. Fields earned his playing time and Lin was finally given a chance when they Knicks were 100% desperate and in a deep hole. Lin took them out of that hole single handedly. With those facts, I want to find out why Lin owes the Knicks 1 single favor.

A)Pulled him off the NBDL scrap heap when Houston dumped him
B)Marketed the bejeezus out of his Linsanity story. Anybody see the Jeremy Lin story on MSG with Spero Dedes?
C)Knicks said about a trillion times that they'd match the first offer, before Lin went Black Ops on them and reneg'ed

So yea, let's just keep pretending Lin is the victim.

I didn't call Lin a victim. I'm just telling you to stop calling the Knicks the victim. If the Rockets were willing to give Lin a bigger offer b/c THEY are desperate, then he should take the money.

The Knicks didn't pick Lin out of the D-League because they wanted to give him a chance. They needed another PG because Shumpert got hurt.

Of course they marketed Linsanity. He made them made crazy money with those jersey sales. Probably a crap ton more than he actually made.

Again, why does he owe the Knicks favors? He played better than his contract and he got a great one. If the Knicks don't match it they'll be idiots.

for melo to bring up what lin makes shows how insecure melo is. it's pathetic. and the fact that the organization is listening to melo instead of telling him to calm down and stop talking in public about this is pathetic.

can we just trade that sloppy bastard.. really, I am willing to take back junk and a few picks just to get this bozo out of town... for someone who has never won a thing, nothing, no MVP's scoring titles, nothing, no rings, no confrence titles.. nothing.. He sure talks as if anyone gives a damn about what he has to say..

You are 100% correct AllanFan, it is most certainly a business & the players & their skill sets are commodities to be bid on & eventually sold to the highest bidder the market determines but why o why doesn't this sound economic theory seem to apply to Melo when being talked about by the rabid UK Mafia???

Not 1 GM in the league would chose W Chandler,Galo,Mosgov over Melo and T Chandler because thats exactly what the deal breaks down 2.Lots of crow is going to be eaten this year. I hope all these posters go join Netsdaily. This team will have a training camp together win 50 games and take the Atlantic. Everyone will still hate Melo because he isnt as good as Lebron. Yes Melo isnt as good as Durant or James but standing Pat with Galo doesnt give the Knicks any chance. They tried to get James should the Knicks have waited for him to become a FA again. Most Knick fans are straight jerks

Melo earned his max contract, Lin really hasn't earned his new contract yet. Melo still said he would like Lin to return.
The two statements are not mutually exclusive.

I'm pretty sure in the NBA it's considered really really bad form to comment on another FA's contract. I can't even remember a player calling another players contract ridiculous in recent memory.

Hopefully he just meant ridiculous as in the way it played out. I mean can you imagine being offered a raise at your company and having your coworker say aw man that dude don't deserve that raise in a public forum?

In most companies HR steps in and fires people without notice for transgressions like this. The rules are simple you don't get to talk about a coworker's pay. To do it on a publicly televised interview just shows how effing stoopid Melo really is.

Please watch the replay of the game today so that you can hear these comments in context and also hear Hahn's explanation. Have fun hating Melo but he didn't mess up here.

Nope, he did nothing wrong. By the way they asked the same questions to Tyson and JR and they didn't say no comment yet all we're hearing is Melo this and that. Guess we feel the subconscious need to pin the blame for Lin leaving on Melo instead of on Lin.

Let's try this one more time in English. There is NO CONTEXT OF ANY KIND that makes it OK for anyone to talk about a co-worker's earnings or pay structure. Anyone who does so is dumb as bricks and that's insulting them bricks. It's the media's job to ask questions and the players job to know what they can or can't bitch about in public.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

ya i dotn know why some think the Knicks have been victimized i mean they told the kid to find out what you are worth and we will match it. I mean you cant blame lin for accepting an offer from another team when he was told that the knicks would match it anyway

This board and topics make me laugh sometimes what gets people rile'd up here

Amazing, a player commenting about a 2nd rocket contract offer (unofficial contract)

and this player was taking Knick organization side of argument trying to retain our Lin in 1st place.

Nobody reads, READs, ReADs anymore
and everything is made oh so so personal

Amazing

No wonder no stars/stealth playa's or superstars DO NOT wanna come here sometimes for the long run!
they are scrutinized 24x7 as long as your ballclub is made up subjectively as you want it
Doesnt matter if win no titles, doesnt matter if 8th seed playoff early exit.
Doesnt matter if short term knick thrills as long as you LIKE OR DISLIKE Someone in Knick jersey is really all one's agenda on board is about
eh ?

really ?
