Yeah I think Bibby is done. I can't see them releasing TD or the Balkster.

Whereas I think doesn't like Balkman and it may be him that gets the axe.

With that said, you have to bring him off bench as to not disturb the chemistry between Fields and Lin and not to upset Fields confidence. One thing is for sure, our second unit suffers with Lin on the bench. It becomes stagnat. JR gives us another player who can dribble-drive and will provide good scoring punch off the bench

I agree that Fields has expanded his game enough to earn a starting role for the rest of the season. I'm curious to see what will happen beyond that.

I think when Melo's back Walker gets nothing, so its Lin, Fields, Melo, Amear, Chandler with Baron (eventually), Shump, JR and JJ off the bench? No Novak?

Guess coach will figure it out

I think until playoffs start its something like this, depending on the hot hand, what is nice about this (and I think I was like 52% against this) is that if any combo of Fields/Shump/JR/Novak/Walker are playing bad, we can pretty much mix and match them and play the hot hand. I don't know if MDA can make those lineup adjustments on the fly instead of sticking to a rigid 8/9 man rotation but he will have to. Come March/April, we're gonna need a 10 deep rotation to save some juice for the playoffs.

PG: Lin 35, Shump 13
SG: Landry 30, JR 10, Shump 8
SF: Melo 35, JR 8, Shump 5
PF: Amare 30, Jefferies 5, Novak 13
C: Chandler 35, Jefferies 13

Jorts/Walker/Davis???

This guy is incredibly overrated on this board.

You mean Landry Fields?

What does Landry Fields provide that JR Smith doesnt? Please dont say defense either.

Landry Fields is a better passer, rebounder, takes it to the rim consistently, gives it his all on defense (Smith doesn't) and last year was a better shooter from 3 point range and I'm confident he'll get back to that after this offseason. And Fields is more efficient all around. Please don't bring up the defense part either. I don't prefer guys who go the Stephon Marbury route on defense.

Yes, I was referring to JR Smith.

If JR signs here, I'm sure his role has already been discussed. As well as his attitude. Melo wants him - that's a very good endorsement.

I don't think he hurts Field's or Shumps' development. Maybe some playing time, but we have numerous back to back games. Next week we play Sun-Mon; off Tues then Atl on Wed and The Heat Thurs. I'd love another fresh body/veteran/good player to be ready for the back to back Atl and Miami games.

We are positioning for a championship run. Signing JR strengthens us.

My sentiments exactly. I posted this earlier as well, I think Foelds is a much better overall value than JR. I am not sure about Wilson's contract situation but really would have liked to see us go after him. Perhaps it's just for this year then we let JR walk and cut Balkman to pursue Wilson.

you are free to think that. Fields might be the smarter player, but JR is more talented and a better fit alongside Carmelo. And I'd definitely prefer Smith over Fields on crucial possessions.

The argument for spreading minutes in a condensed season obviously makes sense, but I'm concerned that with a decrease in certain guys minutes will negatively affect their production.

Perfect example: Novak

I'm not debating that JR isn't a offensive talent, but the minutes and the chemistry worry me, especially given that Melo is about to return as well.

Knicks have no chance at Wilson if they want to sign Lin. Lin should be eating up a portion of the MLE if not all.

"What does Landry Fields provide that JR Smith doesnt? Please dont say defense either."

Here are 10 things that Landry does better than JR Smith

1) He is much much cheaper. (This is very important on a team that has 3 very highly paid players.)
2) His efficiency last year was +12.30 versus Smiths +5.2
3) He has more upside as this is only his second year and Smith is into his 8th year, i.e. he is close to 30.
4) His career shooting percentage was .493 versus .428 for Smith.
5) He rebounds much better (5.8 career vs 2.89)
6) Better career average in assists 2.2 versus 2.0)
7) Steals (1.1 vs .9)
8) More unselfish
9) Better relationship with the team's point guard
10)Guard J.R. Smith is a loser. Trust him? No way. Any NBA team truly serious about winning a championship cannot have Smith on the court, the bench or the team bus. So what is Denver going to do about Smith, with the trade deadline looming in February? Absolutely nothing. It would be a dream scenario if the Nuggets could somehow trade Smith, his $6.1 million salary, tantalizing athletic potential and forever childish attitude for a reliable big man. Vs Fields who is a great team mate.

Is 10 enough?

Just hope with this signing Iman's minutes are not affected at all!

In perfect world we start Shump with Lin. Let him guard the PG and have Fields spell
Melo and Iman. Use JR in the three guard set and to spell Lin

Cut Bibby

I think Billy Walker would be the one most affected.

I don't know exactly how the rotation shakes out, but MDA is very adept at working with smaller lineups. He spent years in PHX with small teams, not to mention here with this team minus a C. Sure Guys like Walker and Novak will get less time and you may not see Bibby anymore, but with this schedule there will be minutes to go around. Not to mention blowouts.
