Maybe there is some underlying injury but until he says it I have no reason to believe that there is. His quickness looks great. Our lack of training camp hurt guys like Amare who were hurt for much of the offseason. They now have to play themselves back in to rthym.

I think you're right. He may have lost some explosiveness but he's still one of the most explosive PFs in the league.

just needed to bump this thread - last night against Memphis, Stat looked finished. He looked like the Larry Johnson version we got to see first hand.

He has seemed no where near as explosive and physically dominant as he was at the start of the season last year, especially during his string of 30pt games.

Might he still be recovering, or have the 20k+ minutes he's played simply caught up with him.

I don't care that last night was the second game in two nights. He's 29, not the 39 he looked last night.

With the exception os Shump last night the entire team looked dead.

I guess we don't go undefeated after a few bad losses.

Team wins: We are just a player away from contending.

Team Loses: we are old, tired, and need a fictitious new coach.

Amare hasn't looked the same. Coach or not. Even in the wins not as explosive as before. Are you saying he does? I don't think anyone has said we are 1 player away since the season has started.

Yep, we looked gassed from the start. Speaking of LJ, I liked that spinning move STAT did early in the game (or was it the game before that)- just like LJ used to do- I'd like to see him do that more often because I'm not a fan of his 'hold the ball, put on the floor and have it instantly swiped away' manouver that seems to be his signature move this season! (though he did it a lot last season too)

Honestly, last year Amar'e was much more of a finness player than a power player- you only remember the dunks and explosiveness because thats what made the highlights- he took a lot of jump shots, and layed the ball in more often than he dunked it.

I think reports of his demise are greatly exagerrated, but I'm looking forward to seeing if playing the OKC team with Melo out injured, will get him back on track. lets see what he does.

Amare just doesn't explode anymore. It's visibly obvious.

and on the broadcast tonight, bernard king said "one of the few times this year amar'e has played above the rim."

maybe it's the extra weight ("muscle" supposedly) he put on, maybe it's the lack of PG, maybe it's a lingering back stiffness... but he doesn't look like the same guy this season. at all.

should be very concerning for the Knicks organization.

i feel like it's gotta be the back injury from the playoffs. game 1 against boston, he looked like one of the most dominant players in the game and he didn't even need a PG.

ever since he tweaked his back in pre-game layups before Game 2 he's looked limited to me. like he can't jump and is afraid to explode now... or just can't explode anymore.

No explosion, no jumpshot, no dribble, no rebounding, no defense.

im sure amear's back is an issue but i still think if we play the tempo of offense he needs he looks alot better. amear is a front-runner too - his play has always seemed to fluctuate with how his team is playing.

Bernard made another good point, mentioned that amare looked like he was just trying to get his legs back. Indicting that he didn't train during the summer because of the back

he worked really hard in florida with his personal trainer all off-season. he was taking his shirt off left and right in practice... but that almost seemed like over compensating.
