You honestly believe Chris Paul would leave the LA Clippers if they can keep Jordan, Griffin, and Gordon? Plus they would have his bird rights.

If the Hornets pull the trigger on that deal it's bye bye Chris Paul.

you honestly think new orleans agrees to any trade with the clippers that doesn't involve them getting both gordon and jordan?

that crappy offer they made isn't gonna get anything done. it's a conversation starter at best. if the clips don't up their offer, the conversation is over. or to put it like CBS did:

So if the Clippers aren't giving Gordon, and they aren't giving DeAndre Jordan... what exactly are they giving? Because Al Farouq-Aminu is one of my personal favorite young forwards, but he and Eric Bledsoe along with the Minnesota pick aren't going to get it done. The whole reason the Clippers are in conversations is because they have more to offer New Orleans, not because they're some power franchise, even with Blake Griffin. There's simply no way the Hornets sacrifice Paul for that kind of package, no matter how good the 2012 draft class is. At that point, taking the Knicks' offer might be better for the cap savings. The Clippers are going to have to step up if they want to get the best pure point guard in the NBA.

Clippers can offer cap savings as well. They could trade Okafor for Kaman if they just wanted to blow money. However I doubt the Clippers are doing that without Chris Paul extending which he is NOT going to do regardless.

Paul and Okafor
for
Kaman, Aminu, Bledsoe, Foye, and Minnesota's pick

I doubt Clippers do a deal like that without Paul taking an extend and trade though.

Regardless, the Hornets would never accept that offer. They're going to need to include Jordan or Gordon, minimally. Probably they'll need to include both. And Paul won't extend, because the smartest move for him is to wait til summer, even to re-sign with his new team.

The fact that CP3 won't be signing an extension and everyone knows his prefered destination is NY and everyone knows NY will save cap room for him... makes this a difficult proposition for anyone to sign off on. I don't think Paul moves. Maybe at the deadline so New Orleans gets something for him and some team is desperate to try to rent him and convince him. But I don't know. I think this winds up playing out like the Melo situation. New Jersey had by far the best offer on the table for Melo and the deal never got done. We'll see what happens.

But as it stands the Knicks offer of Billups, Iman, Fields and a pick is just as good as what the Clippers are CURRENTLY offering.

One interesting question is can the Knicks send back enough money to take Okafor, too - which would save a lot of money for the Hornets and allow them to completely rebuild their team.

Chris Paul has to opt out in order to get a 4 or 5 year deal no matter what.

Billups, Iman, Fields, and low first pick from us is not better than Kaman, Bledsoe, Aminu, and Minny's pick.

Fields is due for an extension this summer so New Orleans can lose him for nothing. Bledsoe and Aminu are locked in for the next couple of years already. Minny's pick will be guaranteed lottery land while our pick will be late first round for the next couple of years.

Good to have you back, briggs! I was a bit worried that the Melo trade and the lockout had put you off basketball for good- these boards aren't the same without you.

I don't like our complete lack of depth- it really does bother me. I'm hoping Iman shows something right from the start, but even then we seem overloaded at the 2 and 3 with basically back-ups (Fields, TD, JJ, shawne williams, Bill Walker and whoever we add this offseason) with no front court players what so ever (aside from Amar'e). I also think Bill Walker is going to report to camp way out of shape- seriously has anyone seen or heard anything of him the whole lockout?

I think people are setting themselves up for disappointment with CP3- there is no chance at all he'll be traded to us. I'm also still concerned about his knee anyways- was it every confirmed whether he had his meniscus removed or just part of it?

That said, I'm a bit more optimistic going forward- once the CP3 thing is out of the way (hopefully the hornets trade him asap so we can move on) we'll be able to focus again on building with what we have- some cap space next year, a bit of development from Fields, TD and Iman- hopefully we can assemble a well rounded team around Amar'e and Melo. It'll be tough, but hopefully we'll manage it.

Yeah, welcome back Briggs. I would like to hear some of your thoughts and player assessment on our players and FA. I know that the Melo trade really set us back, however, I believe we got a nice pick in Shumpert. What are your thoughts about Cp3? I feel he is a luxury that we can't afford to have. We need defense, shot blocking, and rebounding.
We also could use another shooter and another G/F that can play good/great defense and be a 3 point threat. I know we don't have roster spots, especially wasting one on JJ.
I think we can use

1 STARTING CENTER
1 backup PF/C
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sean Williams
Fesenko
Aaron Gray
Jeff Foster
Josh Boone
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 Guards/F *1 being Shawne Williams or a replacement*
one more, G/F or SF that we can use vs Miami with Lebron/Wade

Prince
Grant Hill
Shawne Williams
Dunleavy

Shannon Brown
Brandon Wright
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 G or F that can be a big 3 point shooter

Anthony Parker
Kapono
Peja
James Jones
Redd
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With limited roster spots, who would you cut if you had to choose?

Jeffries
Rautins
Walker
Balkman
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you think that an Amare/Melo + CB,Turiaf,Fields/Balkman
is a possible trade for
Dwight Howard and Areana's(which we then Amnesty)

Gilbert is owed 64 million in 3 years. and that's a big write off even for Dolan. I am not sure if anyone i willing to lose $60 million.
For sure, Melo would be able to land Orlando a nice package if they were to retrade him...

They will never get good value back for Dwight Howard.
This will depend on if they will be going to full blown rebuilding or looking to get back a player to fill in for DH.

While Lakers can offer 2 1st round picks, Odom, and Bynum, Orlando will be way over the cap if they go this route.
Lakers can probably also take back Turkeglu's contract but not for an expiring, for Walton or Artest.

As bad as Gilbert is now without his athleticism, I don't think Orlando can Amnesty him because they still have to play him. 64 million is just a lot of money to just give up on, however, over the course of 3 years, it will save money due to being over the cap if they decided not do do a full blown rebuild mode.

If Dolan is really willing to do take Gilbert's contract then Amnesty it, it's something Orlando has to think hard about.
It's saving money vs protecting the road of the franchise....
