Spoke with an NBA source who said contract extension talks included $3M reduction in salary, from $5M to $2M.

WTF dolan you douche

If true, then Dolan wanted him out. Walsh easily put more than $3M to the bottom line.

WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski Walsh will never blast an employer on the way out. Just never. His DNA is different, admirable. He'll never tell-all on Dolan relationship.

ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix Execs that have talked to Walsh recently aren't buying his claims of lack of energy. "He's got more energy than me," says West exec.

WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski Friends of Donnie Walsh don't believe him saying he's out of energy or didn't want to stay past a season. "He's taking high road," one says.

Yeah I saw this on the crawl during lunch. I was watching the Open, but a couple of the tVs were airing Shaq's retirement press conference and I that's when I took the hit. My friend isn't much of an NBA fan so he didn't care, but I think this sucks is a hugely HUGE way.

Now Ima go back and read y'all's posts on the subject. If Zeke shows back up I'm out.

Yup. Folks are happy because they think will also leave, but losing Walsh is not good.

pretty much the distinct impression i am getting. Donnie couldn't get what he wanted in a deal at what he considered a reasonable price, and he is out.

Thanks for making the Knicks relevant again Donnie.

For now I'm happy to hear Allan Houston didn't slide into that interim role. If so then I would be panicking. But in all honesty we need a fresher/newer/more innovative/quick thinking/offensive individual to man this position..... sans Dolan interferring

The problem is Dolan. Has been since dad gave him the team. He will ALWAYS interfere and is not likely to hire anyone as strong willed as Walsh again...because Zeke will tell him not to.

i'm not sure what the Knicks can do to recover my faith in any way. i feel like i've lost all faith in the organization. it might be an irrational, emotional, knee-jerk reaction -- but it's the way i feel right now.

who can they hire to restore my faith? and even if they hire a top GM replacement, how are you going to convince the fan-base that this new guy is here to win titles and not just collect a check while sitting in a high-profile job?

sad times for the Knicks fan in me. great news is that i just inherited a lot of free time in the fall, winter and spring.

Not the news I wanted to come home to today. Donnie was the first true professional we had for the better part of a decade, sucks to see him go.

Thank you for everything Donnie. Not only did you do an excellent job in restoring this franchise, you did it all with class from day 1.

So now what - is Warkentien still with the club? I remember all the speculation that he was to be a potential Donnie replacement.

great point if there is full confidence in these two as players to get things done especially when supposedly 1 of them was brought in without clear endorsement from the GM that's leaving.

Probably the main one being AUTONOMY...which he absolutely never had since day 1. The McGrady/Melo deals did this relationship in on top of....the Free Agency hoopla and him not being able to hire his boy Mullin. And Dolan all of a sudden wants to start penny pinching with him...lol

You'd love for him to come back. So would Anubis. The Isiah Thomas Fan Club.

Isiah Thomas is unofficially back. He succeeded in removing his #1 nemesis from the organization. Now he can run it from afar with a puppet GM like Glen Grunwald running the show. You guys don't remember but Isiah hired Glen Grunwald and they're good friends. Ahh, good'ol Zeke finding new ways to destroy the team after all these years.

The Knicks are like the US economy - just when you think its coming out of the woods, it slips back into a recession.

This is a blow for sure.

No I don't. I realize there are other qualified and well respected execs out there to replace the very average one leaving. Don's a good dude and I hope he does well wherever he goes but sorry he wasn't as good as advertised. And quite frankly not sure how much decision making was completely his while here. Yes he brought a ton of respect here but he's not the only exec in the NBA who brings this quality to a franchise.
