Therefore a rational person could surmise that given a pressure situation of potentially losing Melo to the Nets (whether it was a bluff or not) Donnie in fact would be agreeable to do the Melo trade based upon previous experience with the Knicks.

Stop shilling--Walsh hated this deal--every last individual here and hardcore fans knows it. the media knows it--so sit down and SU :)

So you are going to believe phantom sources and people who spend half thier days posting on sports forums over Walsh own words? Words from a man who most say has great integrity, is honest and professional. At this point, anyone still spewing this garbage is just looking for reasons to get upset and pick at the franchise.

Uptown--no one in big business is 100% honest. He hated the trade. “I’m assuming Isiah’s getting ready for the NCAA Tournament,” Walsh said of the Florida International University coach, whose team is 9-17. “That’s what I’m assuming.”

That quote is hilarious. It's an example of how much of a failure Isiah is. He's been a loser since retirement.

I made numerous posts that it was Dolan who forced the TMac trade and gave up way too much. And, as we know, he is advised by Isiah. This trade also, same thing. Isn't the whole thing obvious?

Knickoftime - What do you regard as equitable for Houston to receive in order to take on Jefferies contract?

Since this is now old, old news I'll just answer. There were 100 threads on this so no need to re-iternate them all.
TMac had a $20+ mil salary; hadn't played in 1 1/2 years; had major knee surgery; was disgruntled; the Rockets wouldn't even have him practice with the team. Nobdody in the league wanted him and he wasn't really ready to play many minutes at a quick paced NBA level.
We had to get rid of Jeffries $6.8 mil salary for 2010. Jeffries was playing consistant minutes and was a good defender. Terrible on offense. A good team guy. Positive in locker room.

A fair trade - giving the Rockets Jeffries; $3 mil; plus the #8 seed in the draft in Jordan Hill should have been enough if they knew how to negotiate. We took TMac and his high salary off their hands. Adding all of the extra picks is an Isiah/Dolan move. The picks are assets which were treated very poorly. If we had the 2012 1st round pick, we wouldn't have needed to give our 2014 1st round pick now.

Well we need someone to blame.

Well then I'd asked the board exactly what they expected Houston to accept to take on Jeffries (who has been mostly dead weight for them since acquired.)

Jordan Hill alone?

Maybe just a pick or maybe just Hill or maybe just a pick and the right to swap picks. Hill is starting to play very well for Houston. He essentially lost his rookie year and when he was traded to Houston Battier noted this fact last year. Hill was mishandled in NY. If he got the love Moz got here he might still be in NY or the Knicks might still have a first round pick. This topic has been discussed ad nauseum on this forum.

Papabear Says

Blame D'Antoni for that. Also blame Walsh for not saying a damn thing about what was doing.

Look at you stalking every Isiah insult and trying to defend him. You're doing the same crap. Stop showing your lovefest for Thomas. Nobody cares.

Solace wrote:Well, after hearing Donnie talk and some of the rest of the media talk, it sounds like there was a legitimate chance that Carmelo would be taking an extension either with the Nuggets or team he traded for him and that was all, due to the CBA. With that being the case, I'm not nearly as down on the trade I was initially. Sounds like Donnie was onboard. If this was the price, I'm not thrilled, but happy to have Melo here and let's see what this team can do. Glad we kept Fields.

The team now is in a totally different rebuilding direction than I would have gone but I won't deny that we have 2 very talented players and I'm excited to at least see what happens. If we can get super lucky and find an undrafted 20 year old version of Ben Wallace, we'd be in good shape.

Briggs your right and your wrong. Of course he hated making this trade, but your assuming its because he was coerced into making it by Dolan who was fed by Isiah. Massive assumption on your part. Your right... anyone with a shred of intellect can see he hated making this trade. However anyone with TWO shreds of intellect would acknowledge most, if not all of the reason for him hating to make this trade is these were all HIS guys. HE recruited Mosgov. HE drafted Gallo. HE recruited and signed Felton and it was under his regime that Chandler blossomed into a good player. These guys all grew together and helped restore the Knick to respectability. Its hurts and it sucks to trade guys like that, especially when YOUR the one who assembled that crew.

Walsh is a great builder and understands the value of pieces, and its becoming quite clear that there was NOT a better deal that he could have made for Melo, because Melo himself thought he was going to NJ and did agree to sign there. At the end of the day the Nuggets liked the Knicks package better. They got 4 good pieces and saved like $18mm.

The question is simple Melo for that cost or no Melo, and Walsh chose Melo. Did Dolan say he wants to be here go get him? I'm sure he did which is in an owners right. Melo is a diva and he's clearly a tier below Lebron and even Amare for that matter. I would call him top 15 and not top 10, but he's clearly in the discussion. We all know those are the hardest players to get and the dude is 26 and WANTS to be here on this team in this town.

This is not how I would have tried to build this team but it doesnt mean its wrong, and Walsh is the most important piece here, because Jordan Hill pick aside the only reason we were in this was because of Walsh's ability to evaluate talent and get guys.

I understand your pissed. I was also, and will really miss those guys. You cant blame Melo for the deal that brought him here. Like I said.. the guys wants to be a Knick. Give him a shot. Finally, the other guy who really wants him here? Amare. That says something as well.
