we'll see how it carries over into the 2nd half... we bust out of the gate vs. Miami too only to fizzle in the 2nd half... the Garden crowd is terrific tonight & the adrenaline is obviously flowing... we'll see if they can sustain the energy in the 3rd & 4th quarter.

Conversely I think Gallo has been doing a good job on Durant. I mean no one can stop him, but Gallo has been keeping him in front on many of those possessions.

Durant will score on anyone cuz of his perimeter shooting ability, but other than that i see nothing he does better than Carmelo... i don't get it when people say he's in a different class.

IMHO, the main difference is Durant is a better shooter, in addition to being a volume scorer like Carmelo is. This is particularly shown in the very significant difference in FT shooting. Durant is also generally better from 3 point range, as well. Outside of those, it's pretty close, but I think Durant is also a little better on defense. To me, it's kind of the difference between Ray Allen and Allan Houston, back when Houston was our best player. Durant might win you 5 extra games because he is just a little better in a variety of categories. Carmelo is no slouch, though, and I would be glad to have him, as long as we also get a solid big who can play some D.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I'm telling you that the Miami thing was an aberration. We haven't seen this team do anything like that all year until that game. We've played strong for 48 minutes against just about everyone. Miami just caught us with noodle legs. Remember we played one of the busiest schedules up to that point and it was bound to catch up with them. I think the rest was most needed and you can see it in the D. They look fast again.

cheers

i don't get your point about FT shooting... where is there such a significant difference? both of them average the exact same FT attempts per game over their careers, & Durant's FT shooting % is .884 vs. Melo's .801, not much of a difference there either... the only thing Durant does better is shoot from 3 pt range... other than that, their stats across the board are practically identical

The FT% is a big difference. If Melo gets 10 FTs in a game, he averages missing two. If Durant gets 10 FTs in a game, most likely he only misses one. Due to the difference in percentages, Durant will probably get close to one extra point per game just from being at the line and hitting the FT. How many NBA games have gone to OT? How many NBA games have teams lost by exactly one point? One point in a game can be a difference. Do factors like this put Durant in a different class? Well, not exactly... it's just the difference from being one of the top 5 players in the NBA vs. one of the top 15.

I saw that. almost jumped out of my chair.

a 1 point differential puts Durant in a top 5 over Melo who's only in the top 15? wow... can't say i agree w/that kind of logic but whatever u say.

No, I listed at least three factors in the post prior to that one. You questioned the FT, so I went into more detail on that one. I said "factors like this", not intending that it was the only one I referring to.

I would give up AR, a first and TD for Serge Ibaka. He is exactly what this team needs.
Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream things that never were and ask why not?
