How about we give Walsh and Mike, partners in all of this despite what the media may say, two years to prove themselves? Can't build a team overnight. We build a foundation this summer and add to it over the course of next year but most likely the following (2011) summer. Then we compete (2011-2012 season).

I don't understand what is so hard to understand.

I'm sorry but no. Mike was on the clock from day one and Donnie is on the clock July 1. We're not talking about another 2 years because you happen to be their fans or you really want to believe in them. Two years already went by. Everyone knows that the summer of July 1 was D-day. Donnie decided to cut the timetable even more with his last trade. He decided against a natural rebuild and went for FA quick fix. I don't understand what is so hard to understand either.

I don't agree.

Everyone knew it would take 2 years to purge the roster. These are wasted years. These were PLANNED years no matter what anyone says otherwise.

Their job starts July 1st. As far as I am concerned they are on the clock beginning July 1, 2010. Not April 2008. 2010.

Why? Because again they had to spend 2 years cleaning up the mess Isiah left behind. When a team decides to just dump salary there is nothing to judge a GM or COACH on. Nothing. It's wasted space. They decided to tear it down and had to sit and watch the past 2 years go by.

Judging Mike or Walsh on those two years is foolish. There is nothing to judge. The plan was to rip the roster down. Everyone knew then and there it would take 2 full years to WAIT OUT THE CONTRACTS!

Now that that is completed we move onto phase 2. Phase 2 is BUILD A TEAM.

Guess what? We have 4 very good young players, a handful of young prospects, and infinite cap space.

Pretty good starting point I would think.

Now, it can take 2-3 years to BUILD a team. Mike and Walsh get 2 years from me to build a team. Anybody should.

But they won't, for, bloggers and posters will freak if we don't see a Bosh-LBJ combo signed on July 1st.

Well, that's just stupid.

Walsh isn't even our GM. I doubt he ever really was. He's the president of operations. He has John Gabriel (capologist and GM), Glen Grunwald (GM).

And all of these clowns...

BASKETBALL OPERATIONS
Vice President, Basketball Operations Jamie Mathews
Vice President, Sports Team Operations Jason Vogel
Director, Player Personnel Misho Ostarcevic
Director, Pro Scouting & Free Agency John Gabriel
Director, East Scouting Rodney Heard
Director, West Scouting Mark Hughes
Director, International Scouting Kevin Wilson
Scouts Ben Jobe, Scott McGuire, Walker D. Russell, Steve Yoder
Assistant to the Pres for Basketball Operations Allan Houston
Director, Team Operations Chris Bernard
Director, Security John Donohue
Executive Assistant to President Marivic Lardizabal
Executive Administrative Assistant Dianela Correia
Manager, Sports Administration Debbie Sturniolo
Manager, Scouting Kristian Petesic
Administrator, Sports Team Operations Tim Criscitelli
Administrative Assistant, Team Operations Caroline Giglio

All running the show. Donnie Walsh is merely the face...and a consultant.

& who is in charge of putting all these people into their roles? & who should be accountable when the team he has put in place doesn't do their jobs correctly? so basically u look at Donnie Walsh as a figure head only & not responsible or accountable for any of the player personnel decisions this franchise makes? that's nonsense... other than James Dolan, Donnie gets the last say on all roster decisions... the buck stops with him... as such, he should be in the know about all available prospects when he's got a #8 lottery pick to use, & he should be in the know about all available free agents when he's got $35 mil in cap space to spend... coming out with statements like "i didn't know" is just no excuse.

Accountable of what?

What are you missing?

The same thing many fans are missing....

The plan all along from the day he was hired was to tear down the roster and start over.

The roster was in such distress that it would take two years to tear it down.

We're now at that point. It's been two years. The roster has been torn down (sans McCurry).

Now, we're going to build a new team starting this summer.

We hope to start with franchise players.

We didn't trade for Harrington and Hughes with the intent to win 50 games and steam through the playoffs - no matter how much you fell for the necessary lip service of the GM. We made these trades to dump salary and start over.

We're there now. Salary has been dumped. This summer we start to build the new team.

Why not give it a shot?

Why bash it before it begins?

This is like impregnating a woman and trashing the baby that isn't even born yet.

Why not let the baby be born before you have an opinion?

i have absolutely no idea where you draw these statements from, i was never under any impression that Donnie made the trades for Al & Larry to try & compete... you obviously missed all the posts i made telling people not to expect this team to have improved after making those trades... if u have a point make it & stop drawing stuff like this out of thin air, because they have nothing to do with anything i've ever said... you didn't even bother trying to answer anything in my last response & just recited the same old stuff you've been spewing about "we needed to tear down Isiah's mess" for the past 2 months... once again, how does any of that apply to this discussion about Donnie being informed about draft prospects & free agents?

Not you specifically but most people in general. But when I see you get on Walsh and Mike I suspect you did expect to be a good team. Otherwise what is there to complain about? Knowing the 2 years were a tear down period with zero expectations.

And what am I spewing? The truth about the Knicks plan for the past 2 years that's what.

What does this have to do with Donnie and the Hill/Jennings screw up? Nothing. Do you really think Donnie is running the Knicks day to day operations? I don't. I think the guy is a figure head. A face. A guy who organizes everyone, tells them what he wants, and then lets them do their job. The first indication taht this was true was when he didn't even know he traded Malik for Wilcox. Right then I saw that he wasn't even in command. He was a figure head. The others below him were running the team. He is NOT our GM. He is our PRESIDENT. He signs off on moves, lends some experience to those making the moves, and that's it.
