you can't go into a season with Duhon, Hughes, Douglas. Nate was almost a necessary evil.

why? was winning this season important? maybe to walsh, but definitely not d'antoni...

Thats the dumbest thing you could have said. D;antoni wants to win.

listen...when darko gets zero burn, even against other centers and constantly forces the bigs on this team to play out of position, and plays a pg that shoots under 30% from the floor and doesn't do much of anything, then he doesn't want to win. he wants to play his way and that's it - results be damned.

Because if one of those guys goes down with injury, you are left with 2 guards on the roster. Notice how the Knicks didn't resign Nate immediately. Notice how doesn't rely upon Nate.

Nate did put up decent numbers during 1 stretch during 2008 season. If you can have him on a 1 year leash, there is a possibility he turns things around ala Josh Smith. Or there is a possibility that a playoff team wants him. Like that.

Knicks are not beholden to Nate, so there is not a huge downside risk.

You don't wanna try to get value for an asset? Just let him walk?

Darko has already expressed that he wants to play in Europe next year. Dude doesn't even go through the motions any more.

Why would you play someone like that when you have a bunch of other guys wanting/needing minutes.

again, if the coach didn't like him last year, why bring him back this year? it makes no sense. it's a huge risk b/c you're potentially creating a locker room problem.

it doesn't matter to me one way or another...but this is basically some high school nonsense. nate can play basketball. he is the most talented guard on the team. but b/c d'antoni doesn't like his personaility, it looks like he's not playing. same thing happened with marbury last year. if that was the case, then there's no reason to bring the guy back. trading him would be next to impossible too.

name the last rookie, on the 1 year qualifying offer, that got traded.

we don't know how darko came into the season and whether he was ready to play or not...where he's at now could've been a result of a few things, including being totally ignored by the coach.

my guess is that both Donnie and MDA were on the fence with Nate. Maybe they both were hopeful and things didn't work out?

If Nate is the most talented guard on the team, he would have some trade value, even with the no-trade clause, no?

no - he can veto any deal and the team that trades for him will need capspace to re-sign him - making him a player with next to zero value. and definitely not now when he's being benched.

since you don't keep up with the Knicks, here is what I have seen: Darko 2 feet from basket with no one around him: pass out to the 3 point line. Darko talking about wanting to play in Europe. Some beat writers mentioning Darko could care less about playing.

we shall see what happens.

You still don't just give away an asset. What if Nate finally turned things around this season?

or is this just another case of d'antoni being a drama queen?

The UK approved term is maburization -noun. The act of benching a player by a coach for pass transgression rather perceived or actual.

the downside risk of NOT signing Nate to a 1-year is that he does turn things around and makes a fool of Donnie for going with Hughes, Duhon and a rookie (and god forbid one of them gets hurt) while Nate puts up 6th man numbers on a playoff team (which he is capable of doing).

Donnie missed the boat on trading Nate last year.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

you sure he can veto? Remember he's not playing in his QO, its a one year deal.

nevermind.. I see he can.

If Knicks wants to trade Nate I suspect he would go. Knicks arent going to keep is bird rights anyway, and he might as well go somewhere he can play if he's not playing here. I would think that would be best for his career

right, that's why I say there is a sliver of a chance that he accepts a trade. Lee gets minutes and stats with MDA. Nate may not.
