He was pretty disappointing unfortunately. That Wallace/McCarty draft was rough. Sweet Final Four run though.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

While JW44 is formulating his Douglas V Douglas comparison, I think we should really look at the right question.

Certainly physical capabilities are important. That is one of the reasons I don't like Stephen Curry to be a difference maker at the pro level. But the real question is: "Can he Play?"

I think Toney Douglas can play. I don't see being a star player in his future, but solid player? Yes.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Why is wingspan or length important again for a PG?

To me wingspan or length aint important Its the desire that lies in a players heart thats the most important. There have been many NBA players that werent tall, fast or had a 8ft wingspan that had very good careers in the NBA. Damn Patrick Ewing had small hands and he turned out to be a HOFer.

If Rose and Douglas had a shooting contest I bet Douglas beats him. If they play one on one I don't think it goes that way. That's why length is important.

How about this...

Name the team that won the championship in the last 15 years who didn't have a crazy length player at some position on their team
C: 7'+
PF: 6'10+
SF: 6'8+
G: 6'6+
PG: 6'3+

If its Horry, Lewis, or Odom or whoever, these teams that are getting deep in the playoffs have size advantages. Period.

Douglas is just as LONG as the other guys. You owe me a shiney nickle
height in shoes/wingpan
Douglas 6'2/6'6
Derrick Rose 6'2.5/6'8
Chris Paul 6'1/6'4
Jameer Nelson 6'0/6'2

We could go on with this all day. Its stupid. Why argue facts when we can just make up our own?

Nice leaving out Rondo and Harris who are the crux of the debate.

Rondo: 6'10 wingspan
Harris: 6'7.5" wingspan
Evans: 7'3" wingspan
Westbrook: 6'7.75" wingspan

I'm not just making this stuff up. These guys have a size advantage on Douglas. That's not debatable. It's not career threatening or anything, I just think that its hard for him to overcome to the point of becoming an all-star.

He may become an all-star despite all that. That is debatable.

So the fact that there are 2 guys with more significant "length" in the league means what exactly?
Where is the correlation between length and PG skill here? Is Rondo the best PG in the league since he's the "longest"?

You want to look at some more guys?
JKidd?
Holiday has a 6'7" wingspan
Calderon is 6'3"

So just in the Atlantic, Douglas is the smallest starting PG.

I'm not comfortable with that if I'm Donnie. I see that you are. That's cool.

yes... equally cool with him being one of the fastest and strongest

JW, you have your opinion and thats fine, but it doesn't seem like you are even considering what others are saying. For example, NYKBocker asked about length at the PG position and you posted something generic about length at all positions.

There are some "positions" where length does come into play though.

Just to make a point about where height wasnt important to a player. Alto he was listed at anywhere from 6ft 5- 6ft 7inches Charles Barkley was only 6 4 at the most but he played with heart and desire at that height and became a very good player. Agreed?

So much for "holistic" evaluations of a player. Douglas' physical numbers actually match up fine with some of the names thrown about, plus he is extremely strong, which helps compensate for his "lack" of height. He is also turning out to be a better shooter than the "chicken little" crew thought at first after his slow start in SL and the pre-season. His quickness on offense and defense is seemingly increasing and he comes to understand the NBA game and feel more confident with what he can do as a player in this league.

We have almost the entire season to see if he can be a complete PG in the NBA. Some of the criticism should be saved until we see everything he has to offer.
