Hey Bip, I read a couple of places that the best way to burn fat while lifting is to do high intensity and high weight because your body works harder and your metabolism speeds up. I never even started that yet and I don't know how much that is true.

I do know though that it's best to take very short breaks between sets to keep your heart rate up. I also know that I'm a little apprehensive about starting to lift weights eventually. Not because of laziness, but more so I don't wanna gain more weight when I'm really trying to lose it. I probably below 240 now, and I definitely don't want to sky rocket to 250, even if it's muscle.

For the record, it's going to be a tough weekend for this. I have two real good out of state friends coming to town this weekend and there's going to be 2 bbqs. I'm not going to go crazy, but I've been preparing hard all week to take a hit. Hopefully I'll be able to stay right here at 239. (Yes, I've been weighing myself every morning.)

Stay strong but enjoy yourself - also sometimes it is good to give your body a calorie shock if you have been working out and dieting - it can boost your metabolism. Not sure where I learned that or if it's true but I would use it as an excuse any day at a BBQ :-)

Remember weight goes up and it goes down - last week I gained a couple onle to make up a lot of ground this week - you could weigh yourself again and be less than you thought so just keep at it.

Definitely not a race, I am in it with you though and support you 100% - getting in shape and losing weight takes a ton of willpower and you are doing great.

Mmm, a calorie shock to boost your metabolism. I might just use that one to impress the ladies.

I'm with you too and same to you. We'll both hit 200 in due time.

Pack a salad and just say no. You do not need to shove 15 hamburgers down your gullet just to have a good time. You will still have a good time and feel better afterwards if you stick to what you are doing.

End of lesson.

The problem with the BMI, as I understand it, is it doesn't distinguish between fat and muscle.

True weight is in the morning after you take a dump and piss.

However, if your gym uses an old school scale - the one you see at doctor's offices with sliders - i'd trust that more. Weight is tough to measure consistently but IMHO you don't really need to weigh yourself. Your weight loss program will probably take months if not a lifetime if you really want to change your diet and exercise habits. So you will gradually see in the mirror that you are losing weight and if you're off buy 1-5lbs cause of water weight, it won't really matter because you know in the long run it's going down.

I plugged my stats (6'4", 200) and it pretty much told me I was a giant fatty, although on the normal weight. Ridiciulous as I had a sixer before the summer started and I had to go away for business for two months. I'm probably closer to 12 percent than the 24 it suggested. But the calculator is beneficial if you haven't duilt a decade's worth (or longer) of lean muscle mass

Bip, do I have your permission to engage in beer pong combat?

BTW, I'm also going paintballing tomorrow before that. Anyone know if you get a good workout from that? I'm quite excited because I've never gone.

LOL, I'm 40 lbs heavier than you dude, and I'm 6'4" and they said I'm 29%. They also said in order for me to be at a healthy weight, I need to be 197 lbs at most.

^You're all wrong on the cycling.

Biking is fun because you go fast, go far, and you get a fun work out. Try sprinting up some hills and then you coast and sprint another hill. It's so awesome.

And you can ride through traffic and it's like an adventure.

How is that working out for you?

It's working out SO GOOD, it's been 1.5+ mos. by now and my legs are already toned as heck! it's amazing. i zip through traffic all the time and i laugh at the gas guzzling losers in their SUVs.

I have mastered biking with no hands, so now, when I'm cruising (instead of ripping stuff up), I cruise with no hands and I get a load of the sights and sounds.

It told me 132 to 167. Never will happen. Ever. Ever ever. I have a body type where I am bigger and am most comfortable anywhere from 208-212. I have lost 30 pounds and my body still really didn't change. Going through my divorce I went on a Sugar Free Amp and cheese and bread diet(not recommended because that is another way of saying I wasn't eating) and lost 20 pounds in a month.

I started working out and am back at around 219, but instead of wearing 38 jeans to have a looser fit, I now where size 36 boot cut and am comfortable.

My diet staples are whole wheat bread, pears (Anjou and regular), water, chicken, turkey, tuna, salad, eggs, crystal light-I hardly ever drink soda. I stick to around 2200-2400 calories per day(I just started this to see how it goes).

AllanFan, try loading up on turkey and chicken. I did research on it and turkey and chicken actually burn more calories to digest than they actually contain.

If you can incorporate hunting and killing the turkey and chicken, this would help you further your caloric loss goals.
