I think it is important to not panic or look to make the big immediate splash without regard for the future. That was Isiah's philosophy and it didn't work. Walsh was quoted as saying, "This is just the first time at bat. There will be other opportunities to trade." If I am Walsh I wait until Gallo shows something that indicates that he can take Lee's place before I trade Lee. I think the guy that will get traded is Malik if something can be done. If he isn't traded the Knicks might release him so he could sign on with a contender before March 1 and create a roster spot to get some help. I think Walsh is going to hold onto Mobley's contract in hopes of trading it next year.

28 hours until the deadline now...

If we stand pat, I think you might as well extend Lee and Nate tomorrow.

The two Max player thing is fading fast, and we can't go with one Max player, Chandler, Gallo and this year's pick. That will result in more years of frustration.

The status quo is not acceptable.

Do something Walsh.

You probably need team to win 70 games to get out of frustration.
I guess you will spend all your life like that...
I like the team already and adding one top FA in 2010 and possibly another good player in 2011 is more than good enough for me.
So I cannot see any problem with resigning Lee and Nate, and even Duhon.
All the garbage will be taken care of by itself

Less than 24 hours to go.

I wouldn't be surprised if we play the Raps on Friday with the team as is.

Well I can tell you had no problem with Isiah's trades in the past. It seems like you're just asking to make a trade just to make one. If there isn't anything good out there, you stand pat. It's been repeated you can trade both those guys in the summer. There is no deadline for us.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Isiah's trades were clearly terrible. So were his two mid-level signings. They were made out of desperation and hope that the moves would turn out the best possible way, rather than with consideration that they may not live up to their potential.

Difference is that we're in a unique situation now. Teams are going bankrupt and are desperate to move salaries.

If money doesn't matter and I'm assuming that the Dolan's are still crazy rich...

why wouldn't you move Steph for TMac? Doesn't impact 2010. If we had him next year, maybe we could make a run at something.

If the Wiz will give you all kinds of things to get rid of some salary... I'd listen.

Biggest point is that the current path does not fit what our intended goals are, so something has to be done. If we stand pat, we'll be sitting there in the Summer of 2010 with only cap room to sign a minor player and a LeBron type player, and the roster would have Curry, Jeffries, Chandler, Gallo and the 2009 pick on it and nothing else.

LeBron would not join that team. Not sure what player would, and it would take us forever to build assets to the point where we would contend again. (remember, no 2010 pick)

Therefore, we have to do... something.

TMac? Why? Have you not seen him play the last few years? Injuries have destroyed his career. None of these moves will do anything for us. We don't have to do anything. Forcing a trade upon ourselves when we have all offseason through the next trading deadline to make a trade isn't the smartest plan.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

GKFv2 - we have to do something, we really do. We're stuck in a limbo position where we are going to end up with a gutted roster with no potential to offer a potential signing, and the 2009/10 team will have lost a ton of games and will not have a draft pick.

How much good does the cap room do you in that scenario?

We need to make a move so that we have room for two Max players so they have a reason to believe when they come in here, or we have to dump the 2010 plan and use the financial situation to our advantage.

There is one entire year from now till February 2010 to make the moves you just said. Relax.

I think that may have been the KNicks plan. Either to get Miller or to try and get rid of Curry/Jefferies and I don't think the latter is happening. You would like to think they could go outside the box a bit with their ending contracts in this environment--but they are too focused and fixated on 2010 imho. Knicks sit tight here imho--bad thing good thing--well they have been over rating the team for 8 years running---why not a few more:)

Well, Steph and Rose's contracts just went poof as far as being able to trade for any value.

Lee and Nate just took a drop in value.

We can make moves up until next year's deadline, but I think we're missing the only opportunity we're going to get to move contracts like Curry and Jeffries.

I just don't see who we attach to them with a trade now to make them attractive enough to move for an expiring deal.

That means that the 2010 plan is dead. That's a big deal.

The 2010 plan is dead because Walsh didn't jump on a trade or give up Lee or Robinson? I thought the deadline was 3:00 tomorrow and I haven't seen a deal where I would want to ship out Nate or Lee. I think Walsh is showing patience and letting things run their course. He has alot to offer in expiring contracts and talented young players. I don't think any team has offered him anything that worth giving up the rights to Lee and Nate or giving up the cap flexibility created by Malik and Steph's contract. TMac is reported to need micro fracture surgery which takes at least a year to overcome and can be career ending ( see Allan Houston, C Webb). I think Walsh has been clear in communicating that he has this offseason and all of next season to work on the roster and the cap situation. This has traditionally been the time of year when the Knicks messed up since Ernie Grunfeld left.

4 hours and 49 minutes to go.

I don't see us making any moves.

But I'm not going to villify DW for it.

less than 2 hours now

I will vilify DW if we don't make any moves. Too many assets are going out the window today.

what i'm really looking forward to is hearing everyone who says the 2010 plan is a bust lament over the fact that teams like the Nets have so much flexibility to make moves in 2 years because of all the cap cutting moves they're making right now & why we weren't smart enough to do the same when we had the chance because they're so intent of making a push for the playoffs right now.
