How many positive articles have been written about David this year? Not many at all and they are always quick to criticize him. I think most people dont want to pay Lee and he deserves the money and is the Knicks best player

I recently made a post about the kind of cap space we could have after next season. I made point about how Lee's contract isn't really that big of a deal and why everyone is so worried about him making hordes and hordes of money, when he isn't going to be able to command that much. His defensive game is flawed, like the rest of this team, so no one's going to offer him an outrageous amount of money. That's why I don't see his contract going to be a problem. Whether he signs with us or another team.

Most of the negative articles have been about getting rid of him. I'm not going to break anything' to keep him at this point. I don't want to see him go, because I think he can offer a lot. But clearly, and this goes for every player on this team, I won't count on anyone staying with this team. I already made my points clear about Lee and everyone knows what I said.

That's why also I asked Allan what kind of question that was, because I'm certainly not going to go searching for any proof just to answer his question.
I'll never trust this' team again.

David Lee is great--no one will give us his fair value--every poster here-me you and everyone else has under rated David Lee. I think many of us realize how good this guy is--how integral it is at this point to keep this player. In my mind--he becomes priority one to sign. I would offer him 6 years 60mm front-loaded in year 1 and set it up where he gets paid the lowest in 2010. 60mm is money he won't pass up ==I think

Knicks need to get Curry out with medical exempt asap.

He's going to have to be sat for a whole year for that to happen, correct?

I agree with the rest of your post though.

good luck getting that one by Stern... otherwise teams would sign players to those types of contracts all the time where they want to sign up free agents during a certain year... if that kind of stuff were allowed we could pay Lee $50 mil his 1st year & then spread out the rest of the $10 mil over the next 4 years... you can't try & be cute like that... look at what happened to POR when they tried to get cute w/D Miles' contract situation.

The no one on this team we currently have can start for a contender. Lee is the best player for the Knicks right now

sure they can, it depends on who else u have starting on that same roster tho... i can easily picture Lee or Duhon starting on a contender, but like i said before u need the means to bring in the other complementary talent... if u sign Lee to a big extension now how much flexibility are u leaving urself to bring in that necessary talent to be a contender is the question... let's say if u sign Lee, Lebron & then another midlevel veteran like Duhon & u combine those guys with Chandler, Gallo, Jefferies, Curry & whoever we pick in the mid 1st round of this year's draft in 2010, is that enough to get us to the Finals? i guess it's possible depending on whether or not our draft pick this season turns out to be a defensive stud in the paint... i would assume signing Lebron & Bosh & combining those guys w/Chandler, Gallo, Jefferies & whoever we pick in the high lottery of this year's draft would give us an even better shot of making it tho... obviously both ways carry huge risks in their own right... at this point tho i don't think playing it safe is the right way to go.

So if we get LeBron (Which we most likely wont for the 15 millionth time) you're expecting to win the championship in exactly 2010-1011. You're not taking into consideration that the next couple of free agency classes after LeBron are real good too, with Dwight Howard and Chris Paul and yada yada. And Jared and Curry come off no matter what, in 2011 anyway. We shouldn't be placing every bit of our eggs in this basket, b/c if we fail, then we are dead for a long time. We need to keep some of our players, like Lee and Chandler and Gallo. At least THEY will make the team an attraction.

David Lee is a starter. Ideally, he's a third banana type. I'm not sure if that makes him a role player or not; I think it depends on your definition of role player. To me, a role player is someone that comes off a bench to shoot a three or some other specialist ability. I wouldn't call him a role player nor would I call him a star. I'd say he's a competent starter.

My problem with dropping big dollars on Lee is that you have to surround him with players that compensates for his weaknesses...A center that can play defense and a point guard that can get into the lane to make Lee's offensive game viable...You end up having to build your team around him...I don't think he is that good of a player to warrant the extra...What Lee brings to the table is good rebounding...Good rebounding can to had for a lot less than 10 mil per year...

That said, I think he is a keeper (nothing over 10 mil per please) if we still have the room to sign two big names in 2010...I would also like to be able to sign Lee and Nate with the same option open so hopefully he accepts 7-8 per...If signing Lee will cost me a run at 2 big names in 2010, I'd trade him tomorrow...We need to see of Il Bustino can play the position before the year ends...

no i don't expect them to win a championship in 2010 but i do expect the potential to get to the Finals would be the drawing card to any bigname FA... IMO that would best be achieved by having the cap space to sign up 2 max guys at the same time instead of just 1 & holding onto D Lee... i think i've explained that to you a buncha times already (maybe a little less than 15 million but almost there) but for some reason the same questions keep popping up about what will attract bignames to NY in 2 years... what it comes down to is whether the chance to play alongside D Lee or the chance to play alongside another max FA will be a bigger drawing card for someone like Lebron or Bosh... u obviously seem to think it's the former while i think it's the latter.

what happens in 2011 is not my concern right now, we have the option to sign a big player that year regardless of what we do in 2010.

See, I disagree. With this coach you want guys who can perform on the perimeter and Lee's ability to slash and crash can compensate for the fact that perimeter oriented players typically can't hit the glass
