i can respect that type of thinking, but we can trade for all the good character guys in the NBA like Malik Rose & we're still not gonna be winning any ballgames... we need to focus on 2 way players that can impact games on both ends of the floor... Josh Howard is such a player... character issues are a concern, absolutely, but the other huge factors that fans have a problem with in guys like Marbury & now Zach ALONG w/their character issues is that they don't play on both ends of the floor & their contracts were a huge hindrance on the cap... Josh Howard's contract expires in time to fit in the plan to get under the cap in 2010, he plays hard on both ends, & he would fit in well w/the system we're planning to run... players like Zach are an example of who we shouldn't be targetting anymore... underachieving players like Curry are an example of who most fans would like to be rid of.

i woulda been in favor of trading for Ron Artest before & i'd be in favor of trading for Josh Howard now, same as i was in favor of going after Sprewell a few years back... the situation we're in is different but bottomline for me is i wanna go after players that can help this team win some games in the now & not be a hindrance to our longterm plans in the future.

Hey, I'm one of those guys who feels 100% that you can win with questionable characters. And I also feel that some of these guys aren't as questionable as the media makes out to be. Just like many of the "good guys" aren't as nice as the media makes them out to be. But I just think our situation is different then normal. We really need to change the culture here. Get a base going. Hard working, nose to the grindstone, shut up and play attitudes. Let the young guys experience this for a season without the sideshow. Once you build that base, and the kids start to see hwo they are supposed to play. Then you can bring in questionable characters.

I look at Boston as an example. If you had paired Perkins up with Miles and guys like him 2 years ago, there is no telling what types of habits he would have developed. But a year or two of playing next to the Powe's and the Garnett's and the Posey's of the world and this guy is never going to look back. His work habits and ability to ignore distractions will be set for years to come(at least the odds say so). But with the Knicks another side show would be another year wasted, and another year of no mental development. We have to allow guys like Malik and Allan and Lee and most of all our coach be the voice here, without the sideshow.
I just hope that people will like me

agree w/u, we need to change the culture of losing... only reason why i think Josh would be a positive is cuz i think he could help us win games... but i'm definitely right there w/u when u say let's get rid of the bad elements & the sideshows.

oohah, it's obvious that according to me you are a lost cause on this topic --- and I am a lost cause to you on this topic so we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Although, I think you're wrong and ignoring the basic fact of the word usage of "...I'm BLACK" and what context that can be applied.

I will leave this destroyed thread (go ahead fellas, blame me, but trading for a player includes his conduct, but I will take the blame for destroying the convo).

-------------

Hypothetical, and maybe a poor one at that, but the best I can come up with to explain my POV:

****

So, lets say I disliked basketball and a friend took me to a basketball game. Part way through I turn to people behind me.

"There's a basketball game going on. I don't watch this ****. I'm WHITE."

So, it's been said, now what? Just a silly comment by a good guy in Cos who was just poking fun?

Or am I a dead man and rightfully beaten to a bloody pulp?

You decide!

that's a stereotypical comment, not a racist one... there's a difference... nowhere in that statemen are you inferring that you hate black people or other minorities, it just implies u don't think white people should like basketball... see where the distinction lies?

I'm willing to bet that there would be an even distribution of people who found it or you to be funny or silly, people who didn't care, and people who found it offensive and either made a small comment to state that, or would say nothing. Then there's going to be a small distribution of people, on both sides of the spectrum, who will beat you to a bloody pulp (rare, but they are around) and people who will agree with you so extremely that it's just as scary as the people who will beat you down.

Personally, I would just find it to be silly, but would ignore it. Gotto watch your back though.

I would have to assume that the sport of Basketball, or least the NBA oppressed your people for 500 years.

I would have to assume basketball, or at least the NBA enslaved your people, took away your rights, and then even after "some" reform still doesn't give your people a fair shake all too often, such as the example above of the study that showed in this day and age, a black man with a college education is considered the equal or lesser job applicant compared to a white man with a felony.

Hypothetical, and maybe a poor one at that

Yes sir, it was a poor hypothetical. However, it still wouldn't be racist. Because racism has to do with your feelings toward another race or ethnicity.

Now I am happy to agree to disagree.

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!
