It does make sense, that in the long run, the Knicks project DG to be a 4. That will be an easier position for him to defend once he is strong enough. Here's the way I look at this pick from everything I've heard about him.
Strengths - Outside shot Handle Intensity Weaknesses - Defense Athleticism Moving him to the 4 in two or three years will minimize his weaknesses. All in all, I think this is going to turn out to be a good pick. I don't think we got a steal, but I think that in time, we'll be very happy with DG. |

Posted by McK1: i think the realization that marbury will be in the fold, or at least the appearance that he's in the fold, is the most depressing part. gallinari could be good, but we really need to see. time to be a little patient. as for the pick - once seattle took westbrook, there was basically no one i wanted at 6. if we'd passed on westbrook, i'd be irate. but i don't think bayless is that good and the only other guy i wanted was anthony randolph. so now we see if gallinari can be better than randolph. sigh. i really hope the detlef schrempf comparisons are accurate. edit: wait, what am i talking about? i would've taken Alexander. that kid is a beast. crap what a horrible draft. Just from what I've read thus far, he's not really a spot up shooter from 3, as much as a guy who can create shots for himself with fakes.
He's not the best 3pt shooter, but his mid range game is very strong. Honestly, for someone his size, I tend to like the mid-range game more than a guy who stands outside hitting threes. Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

And it might more likely be Galinari passing to Crawford for 3 than vice versa.
