My response was to your comment saying the "games will once again look funny." I don't think there's anything that could change the games looking funny when you're personnell is as mishmashed as this.

The one distinct possibility that could change that was having a roster philosophy in place and having D'Antoni/Walsh as the starting point of people in charge does as much as can be done to change that.

[Edited by - vdesai on 05-10-2008 3:54 PM]
I'm not expecting the same team back, are you? My assertion is, if we get the right guard through the lottery, whatever else we do, the games will offer more that opportuties to indulge to one degree or another in masochism. I think we got a good coach, but we need a good pick, and that will help us better tolerate the rest of the turnover process.

I'm not sure you're saying the same thing you said originally, but obviously my supposition here was that we need a rebuild. Turning over the roster without a philosophy yielded what we currently see here- what I've been saying all along is now that we have some people who have a clear system in place I'm more optimisitic about the kinds of players we will bring in. I think its more clear now who we will go for and I think there are a couple of players in this draft that would make a big impact with this coach.
I'm agreeing with you and have been since you calmed me down over D'Antoni's defensive commitment. When I said the games would look funny, I think you took it as a criticism of the coach, when it was a a euphamistic criticism of how much will be left to do without the help the lottery can give us. We have to have a good draft.

Yeah, never mind me- I didn't really understand what you meant the first time. I am more confident about the lottery now. There are few real uptempo style players like Bayless, Gallinari and Westbrook that I think could fulfill their star potential with a coach like D'Antoni, but might have not fit in the best with a different style of play.

I'm psyched we'll be seeing passing again. We've been engaged in one degree or another of sluggo ball since we traded Michael Ray.

By the way... does the Knicks hiring of D'Antoni mean that DJ will come back and join us as a Knick fan?

It is getting tiring discussing this over and over but since it's done now I'll say that this is not the system you want to build a team around. Some here just feel like seeing people run up and down the court regardless of what happens. If we are ever good in the future, this system isn't the one that will put us over the top. Mike D'Antoni is what he is. I don't hate him, I just dislike his system. He is also a players coach, something we have had enough of. I'm not taking a wait and see approach. I'm taking a "I think this system sucks ass, let's see if it works out" approach. And to clarify, let's just say we win 50 games in 4 or 5 years or something. I'm not going to be here saying we suck but I don't want people saying "lol you were wrong!" No. My problem with him is in the playoffs - where it really counts. He is a great regular season coach because his style is fit for the regular season. In that department he is great. But for a team hoping to build a title contender in the future, D'Antoni's not my guy. We will see if we ever reach that plateau and what happens then. Right now I am done discussing my feelings on D'Antoni.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Dude! Wake up man! D'Antoni losing in the playoffs is wayyyyy more than the Knicks can say.

I love it. You have a problem with him losing in the playoffs? How come barely anyone complains that jax doesn't even have coaching experience??? This complaint about him losing in the playoffs is too low. Too many people here complaining about all the wrong things. It's lame.

But it doesn't matter what anyone says. You'll have to live with winning now. I know it hurts to win, but they say you can win a championship if you get to the playoffs. I guess it's just been too long since we last won one and most of you don't even know what it feels like. Shape up or ship out with isiah and jax! How much more proof does New York need to see it never worked and it will never work.

I know a bunch of you are hoping to God that Walsh and D'Antoni falls flat on their faces, so your boys isiah and jax look like geniuses.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Wow you are sad and desperate eh? I hope more Knick fans haven't lowered their standards to "who cares about a title in my lifetime as long as see a guy do an alley oop." But I digress.

BTW did you actually call me an Isiah fan?

I guess Don Nelson and Paul Westhead were unavailable.

So much for maximizing their lottery pick next year. But then again, who needs players like Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion...other than Mike D'Antoni.

This is so ****ing stupid.

Maybe. Maybe not.

But there's no question that Jackson's potential ceiling is much higher than what D'Antoni has proven his to be with the perfect players.

why? because he would have preached defense? because he was a brilliant pg? because he knows new york? because he can handle the media?

the only negative for jackson is lack of experience - and that doesn't mean he wouldn't have done well. he could have learned on the job. and we shouldn't be winning next year anyway. our best chance of adding talent over the next few years is getting under the cap and maximizing our 2009 draft pick. neither will happen now. there is no way we are getting under the cap and very little chance we have anything more or less than a late lotto pick next summer.

with d'antoni, we are locking ourselves into a maximum 45 wins, second round flameout within the next three years. with jackson, we were guaranteeing next season would suck, but that we would be in better shape heading into 2009-2010 and hopefully looking at cap space in 2010.

sure, d'antoni will be better than isiah. but he is a prickly man who whines when things don't go his way. we will see a lot of that here. we will probably see trades for the likes of TJ Ford and other cap killing contracts that play an entertaining style of ball with no hope of advancing in the playoffs.

if you don't see this, it's because you're tired of being a doormat of the league and want a short cut to "glory" or fun. those shortcuts we keep taking are what got us into trouble in the first place and we keep doing it again and again. there's no shortcut in a situation like this. your response will probably be "yeah but mjax suxxxxx!! haha lol!" well, the joke's on you.

He had a ceiling? Our guys would have been copying his baby sky hook which never amounted to nothing. A total loser. Shut up now. It's over. He's coming to NY and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
