During the All-Star game they said owner George Shinn is looking to stay in New Orleans and get a new lease on the Arena that runs through the 2014 season. There's a deal on the table from Shinn which states if New Orleans can maintain 14,500 average attendance to the end of next season he'll keep the team there.

I wonder how selling the team factors into the owner working a long term new Arena deal?

They also said the owner isn't thrilled with the idea of having to move the team again. That he's noticing the city is recovering and anticipating growing support from the New Orleans community. Sounds to me the Shinn is very attached to the team and committed to remaining an owner.

I've always maintained the mindset that the Gasol trade was just as much a basketball decision if not moreso than a business decision

What exactly is the connection between the Gasol deal and New Orleans.

Remember, Pop was thought of as a lousy coach who was nothing more than a meddlesome GM who wanted to coach until he rode Duncan's coattails? So shut up Popovich. You got lucky. Now someone else got lucky (Kobe). Lord knows Jackson also got lucky with Jordan and Kobe and Shaq. Wonder why he never took the Knicks job? Reminds me, how long before Riley "retires" again with the Heat so as not to blemish that historically impressive Won/Loss record.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

I guess my brain is too small, but that's still to abstract for me. Memphis wasn't ravaged by a hurricane, and what they spoke of tonight was with regard to the 2008 Hornets, not 2004. So again, what EXACTLY does this have to do with Gasol?

When Baron was traded for pennies on the dollar there were rumblings Shinn was looking to cash in and ditch the team. I'm not sure how much the Hurricane and City commitment factored into his commitment to the team but he seems very dedicated to remaining an owner. Now he did sell 25% of the franchise a while ago to some investor group which I believe the Hornets are valued somewhere around $250-300mil. But after he traded Baron the following yr they managed to have cap space and then they went out and signed Peja and S&T for Chandler in 2006-2007. So an owner once looked at as selling out is very much a head figure still.

I feel something very similar could happen with Memphis
