Bonn1997 - if you look at the history of the Knicks franchise, dating back to the days of Gulf+Western, the objective has NEVER been to manage salaries. The Knicks have been top-bidder for players like Bob McAdoo, Truck Robinson, George McGinnis (to a league penalty), Kiki, Paul Westphal, Spencer Haywood...
The salary cap rules were very different recently. Now, you're actually stuck in the mediocrity we've been stuck in all decades if your payroll is completely out of control because 80% of what you have are overpaid mediocre players that no one wants. And the other 20% (Lee, Balkman, maybe Curry) are not great enough to build *around* or to land players to build around

The NBA salary cap was instituted in 1983.

How many of those players were acquired in the salary cap era?

2.

So what does this have to do with anything besides you continuing to bury yourself in your BS?

Bonn - what was the first year of the salary cap?

Whatever year it was, the Knicks were at the front of the class determining the market.

Your 80 percent figure "for overpaid, mediocre players" is severely flawed... if not a downright falsehood. A majority of the Knicks roster is under 27 years old.

For that matter, in the context of what educators should be compensated for education our children, ALL NBA players are overpaid.

Don't get me started on what Britney Spears, Maria Sharipova or Tom Cruise makes.

The only mediocrity the Knicks are stuck in is the negative karma of pessimists who think they can predict the future.

Excelsior!

1983

The Knicks were at the front of the class determining the market by acquiring an overpaid and mediocre player in Truck Robinson, who played all of 1 full season for them.

It wouldn't surprise anybody to see you get started with Britney Spears, Maria Sharapove or Tom Cruise since they aren't germane to the discussion and we all know how much you love to bring things up like that.

How is he "hurting the team" when the Knicks eclipsed last years win total in February, and are controlling their own playoff destiny? Everything is laughably skewed towards the negative.
So what if the Knicks eclipsed last years win total when last year was the year in the history of the franchise. It's not like Isiah was part of last year, he was the GM that brought in Brown and he was the GM that brought in the players thadidn't work WITH Brown. It's not like this is year is a complete fresh-start for Isiah, he's been here for years and it's been nothing but mediocrity. Everything is laughably skewed towards the positive.

Confused at first sentence??? I will say this, who in the hell thought Larry Brown's hire would result in the unmitigated disaster that followed? Its not fair to rip him for that hire, rip the man that purposefully submarined the team in a power play move.

I know this is easy to say, but if you take last year's backwards evolutionary step out of the equation, the Knicks dont look as bad under Isiah's stewardship. In any event, the fact that you take such offense to positivity is a bit concerning. Work that ish out in your next therapy session, dog.

Thats your response? A sip of kool-aid and then to tell me to have positivity checks at a therapy session? I don't get into kool-aid gulping battles with posters like yourself who offer little to no real basketball talk besides how great Eddy Curry is. I call it like I see it. Whether you or anyone likes it or not. I'll be glad to be skipping your posts from now on.

It's always so enjoyable to come here and find so many FAKE Knick fans, dumping on the team when it's currently in a playoff race for the 1st time in years. Why not be a REAL FAN and enjoy the intense games that will be played from here on out. Honestly I can't understand the thinking of some of you guys. Isiah actually has done a VERY good job with this team when you compare his work to that of guys like Bird, Ainge, Knight, etc. How many of these GM's are gonna get a pass from you guys while our team even with injuries is fighting hard and in the mix with all these supposed superior teams? Once Isiah washed the Stink of LB off this team they've been playing very well. NOT GREAT, but certainly showing improvement.

GIVE THE MAN SOME CREDIT!!!! GEEEZ!

nixluva - credit?

No credit is due the Knicks as a team molded by its determined and feisty leader. Personally, I loved it when Isiah slammed the scorers table to get an intentional technical foul to counteract the typical "home" calls going the Wizards way early in the game.

I like how they've circled the wagons despite the injuries and NOT made any excuses for not playing tough down the stretch.

But does any of that matter?

No way. The bitter aftertaste of Diet Isiah Thomas Lemon-Lime Haterade stays with a person long after it has been sipped.

No matter what happens over the next few weeks or months or years ahead, there will be always someone who feels its his automatic birthright to own a championship... or that he knows more about running a sucessful and profitable sports business. That's cool.

I ain't going nowhere.

Just win baby.

nyk4ever, I'm sure that somewhere deep inside there's a little inner knick fan jumping up and down with joy. You just have to reach deep inside and let him out. Just repeat "I LOVE MY KNICKS" "I WANT THEM TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS". Go on. Give it a try. Don't be scared.

You'll feel so much better once you open up.

I dont get it? Really I dont. Is this childish post some sort of running inside joke I'm missing out on? If so, where is the humor? If this post is legit, I really feel bad for you. Honestly. I appreciate the efforts of Martin and Andrew, but damn this board has fallin' off. This board has become a repository for mentally unstable attention seekers. Or gimmick posters.

>>...the Knicks under Thomas have grown into a competitive, united, extraordinarily resilient team. Whereas Brown alienated most of the locker room, Thomas has restored the team’s confidence and given it a renewed focus.

Eddy Curry is having his best professional season. David Lee has blossomed into one of the league’s best rebounders. And Stephon Marbury, who openly feuded with Brown, has redefined himself as a team-oriented point guard.

Yeah, not many people feel the same way that the posters, who you disagree with, do.
