"He's definitely made you rethink some things," Thomas said. He wouldn't say Collins could expect to start but did say, "It's not out of the question." Collins has said he plans to prepare for next season as if he will start, but that's how he would prepare regardless. Still, he can envision playing with Marbury.

"I think the times I've played with Steph it was good for us because I can get him off the ball and he can go free a little bit," he said. "It's kind of fun playing with him. He wants me to shoot the ball. He's always saying, 'Mardy, shoot! Be aggressive!' So I love playing with him."

a starting backcourt of Marb SG, Collins PG and Craw as sixth man would be ideal IMHO.

It's no so much Mardy Collins "handle" as it is his potential to be a floor general and a team leader.

The evidence of his contributions became apparent as Thomas allowed him to play through the early turnovers and Mardy adjusted to the addtional minutes by flirting with a triple-double on a regular basis.

He exudes the same type of "cool" as a former Knicks point guard who wore number 10. Nothing flashy, but a steady business-like approach to the game instilled by that maniac - John Chaney.

If the Knicks have someone who can direct traffic and dictate the flow of the offense - it will be huge.

and this is why I don't understand how most just see Mardy as a really good backup. he has shown more aptitude to run a team than any of the other guards NY has (Marb, Fran, Craw) and has shown me he can be a solid starter.

Martin - who you gunna lissen to, the moral majority of the nattering naybobs of negativity...

... or your best buddy?

If Mardy's evident progress demonstrates anything, it is how unpredictible a players ability to adapt his skill-set to the pro game really is. Collins seems to be a quick study and that is a good thing.

The best part about Mardy is that in high school he was more of a shooter but lost some of his touch as he was converted to the point at Temple.

My kingdom for an analytical floor leader.

I think he would look smooth as butta in some suede Pumas.

showing more aptitude in running a team than marbs, fran, and craw is more of an indictment against those 3 than for mardy.

i have nothing against mardy. but i think we all need to temper our thoughts on the guy to the point where we're calling him a potential starter. anybody in this league can start. but if he's our starting pg, then we better go get kg and ray allen this summer.

why kg or allen?

It's really too bad Collins didn't play more in the second half, teams would have doubled him more up the court or at least put some token pressure on him when he brought the ball up - exploit any weakness. Leave him open on the perimeter... he has hit enough to show me he can do it again (which is weird cause I still remember him missing too many during shoot-around).

This is gonna be tough for Isiah cause he is gonna have to balance the growing pains of Curry, Lee, Balk, Mardy, JJ, Frye with the W/L record, and it ain't gonna be pretty if those guys get major minutes.

Someone gotta be traded.

playoff teams this year:

detroit: chauncy (#3 pick)
cleveland: eric snow (have lebron)
toronto: tj ford (#7 pick)
miami: jwill (shaq + wade)
bulls: hinrich (#6 pick)
nj: kidd (top 50)
washington: arenas (2nd rounder)
orlando: jameer

out of that list - jameer is the closest in level to mardy but jameer is not the right player for orlando either. they will soon find that out. and arenas, well we can't expect mardy to be arenas, no?

west:

dallas: devin harris (#4 pick)
suns: nash (back to back mvp)
spurs: tony parker (tim duncan, greatest pf of all time)
utah: deron (#4 pick)
houston: skip (tmac + yao)
denver: blake (melo + ai)
lakers: smush (kobe)
gs: baron davis (lotto pick)

skip + blake + smush all have top 50 players or studs.

we can't "hope" mardy is going to be a starter in this league with this squad and hope to "contend". it's early in his development but we must continue to find another high level point guard. the problem is that we have no means to do so.

I think you are contending that Mardy won't make us a playoff team, which I will agree with. I just think that Mardy, no matter the other 4 starters, can be solid in the PG spot.
