Yes we suck the same record-wise and money was spent, but the team is MUCH YOUNGER and has POTENTIAL. The team you're comparing to was NOT going to win 39 games again, those guys were on the downside.

Agree at least with me there?

Potential for what? You overestimate the talent on the team if you think we're a whole lot better than we are.

nyk4ever,

i'll try to have a discussion with you, but if you are going to say things like "Frye is a bust", i don't see how we can ever have a real discussion.

you may not like his game, but he at least can be traded for something that is valuable. your attitude of the knicks having no useful pieces makes it difficult for me to try and talk to you. its like i'm talking to a bulls fan or a lakers fan and they just wanna bag the players on the knicks.

if you're the Knicks GM, are you going to approach the negotiating table with the Jerry Wests of the world with that attitude? ".. okay,,., this guy Frye is a total bust, i want him off my team, what say we try and work a deal Jerry..."

I called Frye a bust because he is. Theres no way he's lived up to his 8th pick in the draft. Does that mean he has no value? No it doesnt. Theres a huge difference between being a bust and not having value. But the guy has been a lotto bust.

Kam, I'm glad you'll blindly support the team no matter what, if that means you can't have a discussion with me than by all means, please don't.

isles,

You didn't ask me to state the potential of this team, and then you said i overstated it. How old are you? FIVE? Stop playing games with me.

Considering that Frye was supposed to "threaten" to make the All Star team and be a franchise guy, I think it's safe to say that he's been a bust so far. And if they're really going to build around Curry, chances are Frye will continue to wallow around where he is, especially with Lee pushing him aside.

No, I asked what you thought the potential of this team was and then I suggested that you would overestimate it IF you thought that they were a lot better than what they've shown.

i don't know anyone who ever thought truthfully that coming out of the draft, Channing Frye was supposed to be a franchise calibre talent... i didn't read a single article, scouting report, or message board post describing him as a potential franchise player... people got excited about him AFTER he started to put up 30 pt games early last season & he was in the discussion for ROY honors, as some people tend to do w/their overreactions both in a negative & positive way around here.

Something i noticed about the haters...

They think this team is pretty good, expecting them to win all the time. Raising hell when they don't. They have no ability to take a long term view on anything. Everything sucks today and has to be fixed by firing people. Nothing can get better without trading or waiving our players (so that we get even worse in the meantime - something they never mention will have to take place) and the players we do have ALL suck except Lee and maybe Curry.

When talking about Potential if your response is ... errr we have no potential because "FRYE SUCKS" then you're either purposefully being a jerk or you really believe that the only way to improve is just draft and sign your own guys and never make a Villanueva-Ford type trade where we could get something for Channing.

No... we have no potential becuase FRYE SUCKS. OK.

nah... they actually think this team stinks & yet still get cranky when they don't win games... it's pretty ironic... you'd think any one who would have come to grips with the reality that this team is still a long ways away from being a contender would judge this work in progress with a less critical eye than if they were a ready made contender with all the pieces to be a very good team... if this team were the Pistons for example, & yet was languishing w/a sub .500 record, i could understand the frustration because you'd know this team was capable of so much more.

7 games under .500
& yet still get cranky when they don't win games...

All we hear from team management is that this is the core and how we don't need to do anymore heavy lifting. Do you think that's an accurate assessment or does that concern you considering the limitations of this core of players?

fans will always be fickle and impatient. that's harmless.

having a gm with no long term view on anything - as exhibited by no real style of play, mismatched parts, and future picks and cap space traded for the guys here now - is harmful.

isles, i've come to grips w/the state of this team a long time ago... that doesn't mean i'm acceptive of failure or mediocrity... i resent the fact that you, MS & a few others around here always seem to suggest that anyone who isn't highly critical of this team on a daily basis is doing that... we ALL want to see this team win a championship... you & the others who think like you aren't the only "fans that know the game of basketball" on this site (LOL, that one gave me a chuckle).

i told u at the beginning of the season all i expected out of this team this year was some progress out of the young players, & so far i've seen that... that doesn't mean i'm satisfied w/the overall state of the team... obviously everyone would like to have a franchise stud like Dwight Howard or Lebron James to build this team around... i think about 20 other teams in the NBA are thinking along those same lines... that doesn't mean i think this team is done rebuilding... i keep saying it over & over again... it's a work in progress... do i care if it's Isiah or some other GM who takes over that rebuilding next season? hell no! i have no ties to Isiah... however, i do recognize the fact that he's been a pretty good judge of young talent though in the draft, & for that reason alone i wouldn't mind him staying on in an advisory capacity for whoever it is that's going to be making the draft picks for us in the coming years.

i also noticed that these players all seem to enjoy playing for Isiah & they have formed a much closer bond to one another this season that i think will be important to grow into the coming seasons... building team chemistry takes a # of years in any team sport, especially these days w/all the player movement & roster turnover... i'm willing to be patient to see this thing out... i don't bother myself getting stressed out over things i can't control on a daily basis when it comes to this team... when i see them lose games, i get pissed off just like you do... but it doesn't do me an ounce of good to post how crappy i think this team is on a message board 24/7, because i do see some positives in some of the young guys.

If you had the chance to conversate with these fans about this coming season and expectations, many of them had the team winning more than 40gms. I saw plenty of 43, 44, 45 win projections. Then as the season got underway and this team showed a lot of the same ugly tendencies as last yr those same fans would say some very disturbing things.

This team could still win 40 games you know. Despite our ugly start, in the first month, I still believed that this team could still end the season with 35 or 40 wins. The Knicks have actually gotten better with age this season. It's the second half and I do expect a better winning record. There's one thing we're forgetting. This team plays better as a team, then it did last year. The only thing wrong with this team is, it's not a real threat, even if we make the playoffs.
I'll never trust this' team again.
