thats a stupid question. KMart was a good player, and that was a good signing. They overpaid a tad but even Rod Thorn admitted letting him go was a mistake, and they clearly took a step backward. The fact that KMart is hurt now has ZERO impact on fact that Denver signed a hell of a good player, one of the top defenders in the game, a winner, a tough competitor and a guy who had been very durable after his rookie year when he broke his wrist or whatever.
U R CRAZY!!!!
K-Mart was a good player who looked better than he was playing in a system with a certain player (J.Kidd). He was severely limited offensively, and a good defensive player, that does not make a max player. He has never been the same since he left J. Kidd, he has struggled, and hes not even a good teamate. To suggest that signing K-Mart to Max dollars was a good signing is totally ridiculous.
to get kmart to leave nj, denver had to overpay.
so the choice was having kmart (preinjury) to play with a pretty good core of dre, melo and camby, or having no kmart and having to sign someone on the cheap.
$90 mil and 3 #1's is WAY overpaying for kmart. but it was the only way denver could've pryed him away from jersey. smaller markets like denver, new orleans, etc, need to not only want players to come there, but have to pay for their services.
nobody wants to play in atlanta. they have cap room year after year but have problems getting free agents. but for them to get joe johnson, they have to pay $60 mil + diaw + 2 #1's.
ny is another beast entirely. major cap room will have free agents lined up around the block to come here.
If you look at what Denver gave up for K-Mart and what Atlanta gave up for Joe Johnson, IT's trade for Curry does not look so bad when you consider that center is probably the most valuable position in the league (outside of maybe the PG position). I guarantee you that unless Chicago gets Oden in this draft, they would rather have this version of Curry on their team.
