Here's a riddle for you guys...

What's the difference b/w Jordan and Marbury?

Give up?

Defense, leadership, and the will to win.

Do you realize what I'm saying?

I'm saying Marbury has all the skills that define great players like MJ. But 20 & 8 or not, he is seriously lacking in those other fundamentals that make great players who they are.

You're absolutely right. Very few players could average 20 & 8. I'll give you that without batting an eye. But I think some of you are getting "mesmerized" by his "superstar" numbers and relying on hope instead of the facts.

The facts are that Marbury is TRYING to change. But it's just not gonna happen. I believe things like perseverance and heart are things you're either born with...or learn through life-changing experiences.

Just watch the games when Lee, Crawford, Nate, Frye, and whoever else is in the game. The ball moves around, Crawford passes up shots to find the open man. Lee gets offensive rebounds. Frye uses his muscle in the paint. Nate dives after loose balls and sacrifices his body for rebounds.

That's what NY basketball's all about. Going all out. I don't think I've EVER seen Steph dive for a loose ball, or fight for a rebound against the giants, or pass up a shot just to make the extra pass. I've seen Wade do it. I've seen Kidd do it.

Part of it is that Steph is JUST starting to shed that "superstar" mentality garbage and he IS trying to do the little things for the team. I'll admit that. But you can't have a 75 Mill. "franchise" player only doing 1 or the other, b/c he'll either be hurting us by strangling the team's production, or not adding enoug of his own.

I've ALREADY started to see the latter...

He needs to be dealt, and sooner rather than later.

Don't be mesmerized by the stats.

NO PLAYER can win by himself, not even Jordan. SO lets make one thing clear, you need a great TEAM. So far Steph has NEVER been on a great team. There were some decent ones along the way, but none that anyone considered a title contender. Perhaps had he stayed with KG or if PHX had kept him and Amare together, but since that didn't happen, we'll just have to wait and see how Steph, Curry & LB works out.

This team has some very good players, but really its going to be all about how much they listen to LB and execute the game plan. The talent is there to compete night in and night out.

Also lets not get too crazy, cuz there are a LOT of so called great players who haven't won a damn thing!!! What's their excuse? I think you're just way off base in your criticism of Steph. I guess we'll see over the next few seasons, cuz this has the makings of a top team in the future.

You'd be right except for the fact that Marbury isn't a Barkley or Malone.

Not even close.

He's not a dominant type of player like they were.

He's also not a leader like they were.....or as mature a player.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Michael Jordan's quote on Charles Barkley is that Chuck would never win a championship because he's not professional enough. Mature and Barkley should be the last two words used together.

Mature ON THE COURT.

And Jordan's comment had more to do with his work ethic than anything else.

I'm a big Charles fan so I know what I'm talkin about...

lol Cool man. Enjoy. It's one of the great styles of music. Sounds like you're class deals with REAL jazz not that other crap they call jazz or whatever.

But I predict that Marbs will be just as good as Chauncy in Brown's system. But, we shall see.

I'd put money against that.

Detroit wasn't as deep as we are, and by deep I mean having as many quality players NEEDING minutes.

But hey, you could be right.

And while we're on the subject of jazz.....

Why don't you tell me a lil about Monk. I have to write a paper on a musician soon, so if you have some good insight I might just do it on him...

it's either due this wednesday or in mid november.

they might've changed the date.

but i'm covering all bases just in case.

and ya, that'd be good.

not so much biographical info, but more about why YOU'RE a fan, and what him and his playing means to you (even particular pieces if you have any favorites).

very cool.

bobs, just like we say watch a knicks game to form an opinion, listee to a t monk recording and see what it says to you and how it moves you.

he was a giant, and btw his saxophonist charlie rouse was always one of my all-time favorite jazz saxophonists, his phrasings and tone blew me away. totally. he never got anywhere near the fame of a parker, coltrane, young, etc. but i just loved the way he blew! and he and monk had a synergy going, my god!

I plan on it.

Just trying to get varying opinions/feelings on the man.

I'm not really a "fan" so the way I feel about his music is gonna be different from you or Monk's.

yeah, I'm not a fan of jazz as much as I have respect for the genre...all anyone that likes it is going to tell you that it's great.

But there is a science to it I think.

I like Depeche Mode. :)

no doubt
all kool aid all the time.

I like Depeche Mode. :)

You should be banned for that statement. My ex-girlfriend likes them...
no doubt

And you should definitely be banned for putting the silly above statement in every post. Is it a Gwen Stefani reference, at least? :P

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Wow! You brought up Rouse. I rarely hear anyone bring him up. I totally agree with everything you said about him. I think they made a great great team.

And, Bobs I got you on that info too. Later tonight when I have a minute to really sit to the computer.
