RIDGEPORT, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Eddy Curry had an impressive debut with the New York Knicks.

Curry scored 16 points and Trevor Ariza added 13 as the Knicks posted a 93-84 preseason victory over the New Jersey Nets.

After failing to reach agreement on a long-term contract with the Chicago Bulls due to an irregular heartbeat, Curry was dealt to New York on October 4 in a five-player trade.

Expected to be the Knicks' starting center, Curry made 5-of-7 shots and 6-of-8 free throws in 13 minutes. He did not play in the final period, when the Knicks scored the first eight points to take the lead for good.

Jackie Butler converted a layup 19 seconds into the quarter to cut New York's deficit to 71-70, Matt Barnes made two straight baskets and Ariza capped the spurt with a jumper to make it 74-71 with 10:50 left.

Marc Jackson, acquired in the offseason from Philadelphia, scored 19 points and Richard Jefferson contributed 18 for New Jersey, which managed just 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Rookie Channing Frye scored 12 points in 18 minutes for the Knicks, who played without guard Stephon Marbury.

I expect it was just nerves and not having a true pg to get him some easy shots...but maybe I'm making excuses for him. Donyell Marshall had an off night too tonight and he's supposed to be a "real" shooter.

All I know it was the young guys that played the fourth quarter and if you can get that production out of the rookies inside you hsould be quite happy. Brwon was very happy with the young guys

quick recap

knicks played encouraging basketball in terms of defense and rebounding, the whole team

they started out with a pure vet lineup
no one on the nets could stop eddie curry, he couldve scored 40 points
trevor ariza looks like aburgeoning all star, the second unit was better than the first minus curry

i didnt see the knicks live last year, but i think you will see they seem to be able to get up and down more

they didnt pass as well as i expected, the offense whatever sts they were running need a lot of work

all of the rookies including jackie butler played real well, thankfully channing frye looked like he could score 20 points easy with a full game

q rich was kind of like the odd man out tonight, not to many rebounds and he missed a lot of shots, you could audibly hear him being btched out by Brown, who also btche out nate a couple of times

nate is exciting no worries from him although he tO a few bad ones by over extending himself

cant say enough about ariza if he plays like this hes going to get PAID next year, hes good at almost every facet, hes very long and athletic

david lee gave good minutes
penny started and played pretty good.

malik rose and mo taylor kind of were sour points except for some rebounds, nothing special mo taylor looked chunky

i feel good about the team. i domnt know if this team is better with jerome james i like what they were doing tonight and I dont think james can keep up that pace if he is 20+ pounds overweight or whatever.

I think that eventually we will see something like marbury in the first group and q in the second group with possibly ariza at 3. ariza to me is better than Q--maybe he still needs to come off the benhc its a nice bench nate ariza frye and lee butler is like a 75%sweetney and should get better hes also a thick dude.

channing and david lee are really tall, channing looks like hes a 7 footer and lee appears like 6-10
nate is no more than 5-7 in sneaks

good night

I was also at the game tonight. Overall there were alot of positives. The team seemed the play more choesively as the game went on. Nate made some bad decisions early in the game and was bitched out by LB. He was brought back in at the end of the 3rd and the Knicks took the game over to start the 4th quarter.

The team came out very flat to start the 3rd quarter. But rebounded. I was most impressed with Derek Lee. He has great hands and finshed very well down low. He also knows how to use his left hand. Nate has the potential to be something special. Frye played a solid game. Curry played well in limited minutes. He was taken out after about 6 minutes each time. They are obviously bringing him in slowly. Jamal was pretty quiet didn't do much bad. Q was throwing up alot of threes which made LB's stomach turn. LB was definetely in teaching mode tonight. He was really trying to make the players realize the mistakes they made. Matt Barnes played surprisingly well in his role.

BTW Vince Carter fouled out in the 3rd quarter. Jackie Butler and Marc Jackson got double Technicals when they started to push and shove. Butler played pretty well but he is raw. I hope the Knicks keep him because he is a good finisher.

Allan, Steph and Jerome did not play tonight.

That is all goodnight :) Knicks win!!

I wonder how long Q and Malik will start over Ariza and Frye. On no planet do they deserve to. Don't get me wrong, I like having Q here - but let's not kid ourselves, Ariza would wipe the floor with him.

Derek Lee played for the Blue Jays. David Lee plays for the Knicks and was impressive in the highlights.
