big time (reezy)...and still not old enough to drink...i was watching a DVR of the Steven A Smith interview with melo...he's all about being a knick...

Trade deadline...TT and something for Melo' and something?

I mean, he was adamant that he wants to be a knick AND is down with playing for LB.

Now, I know I'm gonna get some flack for this, but I think I would rather have Melo than lebron.

I know, I know, but I'm a Cuse fan and I want to keep Marbs.

I said the Knicks are building to become the type of team the Yankees are within the constraints of the league's salary rule
well then we can just stick with what an equally ludicrous statement that is. The Yankees FIRST built that team around a core of FRANCHISE all star caliber YOUNG players in guys like Bernie, Mariano, Jeter, Posada, Pettitte and then used trades to add similar guys in and Oneil, Tino.
I love how your imagination puts words into my mouth and then criticizes me for the words you put in my mouth. The Yankees had many great players in their farm system, a minority of which they've actually kept. The Knicks have good but not great young cheap players too like Nate, Ariza, Frye, Sweetney, Lee. I didn't say the Knicks were as good at building a foundation as the Yankees or that they would even have the opportunity to in the system the Knicks have to operate in. Those claims are your crazy imagination.

Bonn... no matter how you hack it to make yourself feel better you said the Knicks were trying spending in the fashion the Yankees are. It doesnt matter, because they are nothing alike, the philosophies are nothing alike and the situations are nothing alike. When the Knicks win titles with Frye, Ariza and Nate, and THEN add monster contracts and payroll talk to me then. Right now your comparing a loser franchise to one with success only matched by their own in recent years. Dumb comparison. Nothing similar.

Anyway I'm done with this one. Write your retort, I dont care and I wont be reading it.

So in other words you're saying "I (Fish) have beaten you but I can't stay on the topic and address your specific points; I also can't continue this conversation; I'm done with it. It makes me feel good to keep calling people I disagree with dumb because I'm insecure. I also have to put words in other people's mouths because that's the only way I can beat them in arguments"

That's impressive Fish. Maybe you should try something easier like Checkers or tic-tac-toe

The similarity is that the Yankees and Knicks both have money. The Yanks have no cap and benefit from that situation, whereas the Knicks have a salary cap to adhere to, and mostly suffers for it.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

and it ends their HCKF... if you want to go baseball to bb the Knicks are like the Rockies. They squeeked into the playoffs one year and have sucked before that and after that. They added a gazillion $$$ in guys like Mike Hampton and Denny Nagle and they still suck. Thats the Knicks right now.

Maybe next year is different. I sure as hell hope so. Funny how the young guys are the ones people are excited about, not the other 10 that ISiah traded for or signed

I'd agree that in the pre-Isiah years the Knicks were like the Rockies or any team that carelessly spends and gets nothing in return, but we don't know if that is the conclusion we'll get from Isiah too. To follow your Rockies example, who on the Rockies is as good as Marbury? Is the *majority* of their active roster talented players 19 to 25 with nice upside like Nate, Frye, Sweetney, Ariza etc.? Do they have one the best coaches (or managers) in the game?

Hollee Sh!t Marv, what are we doing agreeing twice in a thread? I don't know why anyone would doubt Ariza's enourmous potential, considering his experience he has a wonderful feel for the game, at 19 he was physically able to step into the NBA and play above the rim. Mantally he was tough enough to impress and rebound (Metaphorically) from tough experiences. What happens when he starts to mature physically and skills-wise? There is no way to go but up for him and the kid can really jump!
Now, I know I'm gonna get some flack for this, but I think I would rather have Melo than lebron.

That's cool, they allow you to post from Bellevue? Seriously, I do think that Carmelo is not untouchable (Because of last year's antics.), but I don't see the knicks getting him. Also, I think we have our quota of 'head case' on the squad, so I am not sure if that is good idea.

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

I love when you combine posts into responses, make life easier.

no doubt.

I started a thread, and wanted to know if it has been done, but, when shaq signed with the lakers, I remember it was one of those cases that orlando got screwed (like cleveland with boozer), then there was a strike and two new CBA's to stop that kind of thing, but since then, no team I can think of has a) had cap room and b) signed a free agent and c) made it to the finals.

The suns came close, but they lost one of their free agents to a team with no cap room (knicks) and another core player to a team with cap room (hawks) the next year.

but they are still in the running.

But who has actually proved everyone's THEORIES successful?

I saw arenas to wizards...give me a break. maybe cleveland or nuggets, but could that be more their draft picks than their cap space?

only a handful of teams are lucky to win a title. all you can ask for is being in the mix. so take the top 5 or so teams in the nba and look at their payroll. is anyone even close to us?

spurs - $55
detroit - $55
miami - $56
pho - $47
houston - $60
indy - the closest - $75 (and downt to $58 next year)

everyone is pretty much around the cap so if they need to make a minor tweak during the season, they can.

keeping in mind, we've been over $75 for atleast a couple of years prior to Zeke AND if we continue as is (TT and Penny come off, h20 comes off) we'll be right in the "mix"

who's blaming Zeke for that? The fact is in 2 years we could be in a GREAT position cap wise, and still haver Nate, Q, Crawford, Frye, Lee, Sweetney and Ariza. The fence guy is Marbury who would be easy to move. Isiah obviously doesnt care and thats just bad planning. No way around it. Getting Rose and especially JJ closes a lot of doors down the road in terms of options.

The Yankees FIRST built that team around a core of FRANCHISE all star caliber YOUNG players in guys like Bernie, Mariano, Jeter, Posada, Pettitte and then used trades to add similar guys in and Oneil, Tino. When the Yanks won a title in 96 they did not have a monster payroll, it became a monster payroll when George committed them to maintaining that level of pay, and a large bulk of their payroll has been spent on resigning their own guys.

Again... dumb example. If there is an NBA that's similar to the Yanks it would be Dallas. They had Dirk/Finely and Nash in place who they drafted and developed (Fin came from Pho after year 2). Once they had that established core they were willing to add big money in guys like Dampier, Jamison, Walker, Van Ex, ect to get to the next level, which incidentally hasnt worked.

Knicks are nothing like those 2. Figment your ass SGR

That is probably the greatest core of young players in baseball over the last 20 years, those guys won 4 titles and appeared in 6 over a 9 years span. if it wasn't for a bloop hit vs arizona it would of been 5 titles... Anyway that core could still win another ring or two before they it is all over and that would be 6 rings for that group.. All I have to say is WOW!!! Especially in baseball, with all the games and length of season...

If you felt like that, then maybe you should have said it to Isiah's face @ the Q&A. I would have loved to hear Isiah's concise response to an insane remark like that.

not for nothing fishy, I you've pretty much saved my summer!!

But I still disagree with everything you said, Rose and JJ help us more than they hurt us. You'll see.

When does the season start!?

I did have my hand raised for the whole 2nd half, didnt you notice? Perhaps I should have rushed the podium?

Hardcore... do you think based on his moves Isiah has any regard for managing the cap situation in the next 3-4 years?
