med student. 4th year. taking a fellowship to do pediatric oncology research at the NIH this year before finishing med school. I should have done IT. Or I-banking. I-something. Medicine is all about others... there's no I in death.

Yeah thanks man. My buddy's had crazy treatments for the past exactly 1 year since he was diagnosed. 2 surgeries to remove tumors, radiation treatments (maxed out, they can't give him anymore), clinical trial - Poly LCIC, chemotherapy - Temodar, an amazing array of neuroleptics (Lamictal, Trileptal, Topamax, Neurontin, Depakote, Tegretol). He's got a 15 year-old and he's trying to eke out whatever time with him he can get.
It's one crazy heartbreaking trip.

In light of the other subjects in this thread, and the stories about New Orleans, this topic just seems off balance.
Case: I have some doctor clients whom I feel are the hardest working dudes I know! The hours are brutal, and if the money ever comes remember all the big bricks and BMW's can't make you all that happey. save your money, invest wisely and you'll have the freedom to pursue many avenues. Strap up with debt, multi marriages and your a slave to medicine, and can become bitter!
Its a high calling to do what your do! You guys get my utmost respect!

i like research. i might do it if I can really make anything happen and stomach the salary...
not sure what specialty yet - i'll fill you guys in when i find out what road i'm going to take.
