Loves Nate Robinson, too. Calls Lee very athletic and says the Knicks plan to run.

Hell yeah they are gonna run, and it's about damn time!

Instead of making comparisons to other players, I'll wait till Summer league and see for myself how Frye plays. It's the most intelligent way to make an accurate assessment and NOT look like a fool @ the end of the day.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Hardcoreknickfan,

what rock did you climb from under?

At least you have since enough to wait and see what transpires before you make an assessment of our draft.

I can remember when Lampe got drafted by the Knicks and everybody and their momma were swinging on his ummm

now you hardly ever see a Lampe thread in any forum on the internet. i guess, we just want to believe in something but some people get carried away.

if i were forced to make a comment on the draft then i would say i think the knicks drafted players who actually will contribute--to what degree? we shall see

Remember though, Loren Woods scored 30 pts in a summer league game once. I think Qyntel Woods had 40 pts once too. It can be misleading. But I have a feeling a Knicks Summer league team with Ariza, Frye, Nate, Lee and Sweetney will have a LOT of fun with other teams.

Even if Frye is a forward in the future, we can do worse than getting a center (Maybe Swift??) and haing a lineup of Swift-Frye-Ariza

Zeke called him our Center in his interview with Mike and the Mad Dog

He has the size to play C. He bulks up a little more and he is set...

He's excellent with his back to the basket. Get him to 260 and bingo. He has broad shoulders and should have no problem getting there.

Forget about bulking him up too much--- you don't want him to lose his mobility, quickness, and athleticism. At some point there'll be a limit to how much weight you want him to pack on. More important traits for him will be strength and explosiveness.

At his size, it looks like he's big enough to defend most starting centers in the NBA. We have tough little guys (Malik Rose) who'll take one for the team and put a body on the tough assignments.

The daily news and ppost seem to think Frye is our PF and we are going to sign a starting center a la Swift, Dalembert, Z,....

Big Z has bad feet... It could be Luc Longley all over again.
Dalembert? Hmmm...

I thought this was interesting:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/30/sports/basketball/30knicks.html?
Anyone who believes Channing Frye is not tough enough for New York has not seen him banging for rebounds while a front tooth dangles by a root from his top gum. Or, at least, has not heard Channing's mother describe the scene.

There are scouts and team executives who say that Frye - the Arizona center drafted by the Knicks on Tuesday - is too soft to man the middle in the N.B.A. His mother, Karen Frye, politely but firmly disagrees.

"A tooth came out last year, hanging," she said Wednesday, recalling the scene when her son was knocked in the mouth in a game at Oregon. "The guy stuck it back in when he was on the bench and then, all of a sudden, he said, 'Coach, I'm going in.' He went back in.

"Two weeks later, the same tooth came out again. The doctor came out and pushed it back in again, and he went right back in again."

She added, "That's not somebody that's soft."

all this disappointment with Frye vs Bynum or green- but, I think Frye is better than Sweetney & that's the last player we drafted in about the same spot.

Thats great! Now we know he can play without teeth...

Don't understand all this Frye is a PF talk. He was the number two rated pivot in the draft. He played center all his life. The knix have about a dozen PFs on the team.

yeah it boggles my mind when I hear people say we need to add a Tyson Chandler or Dan Gadzuric now that we wasted the 8th overall pick on a Center exactly like those two who don't provide any scoring inside.

How in the world are we going to have a frontline that cannot score inside. We must be perfectly happy with Crawford, Q & Marbury launching 3's and collapsing in the 4th quarter when teams tighten up their perimeter D!

The only way we're going to have any success with Frye is if we put the right PF next to him. Is Sweetney that guy? is he going to come into camp 30lbs lighter and ready to play 30+mins a night? Is Buler going to explode onto the scene next year as a poor conditioned 20yr old?

Its gonna be ugly. Maybe not as ugly as last year but pretty damn ugly! Especially when you consider a team like Cleveland is not only looking to resign Z but trying to add Michael Redd with Lebron!

Sweetney is more than cappable of being that low post scoring option that we need. He is a good one already and if he came this season in game shape and ready, he would have a great year. An improved Sweetney may be the best way to complement Frye. If we can count on him to do that, then we can concentrate on getting a center to be that defensive presence we've lacked so much. Dalembert is on top of my list. Brown is an enigma, Hunter and Gadzuric would be the best and cheap options.

Now, if Sweetney can't be that offensive presence, then we could take the risk and get Curry here. He would be that low post scoring C that would be a nice complement for Fryem, who would switch to PF. But my hope is that improvement comes from within, and that Sweetney will have a great season for us if he stays...

i agree sweets could fit. he draws a lot of fouls and gets in the mix for boards. he just needs conditioning, he needs to put in starter minutes.
