are u guys happy we kept the pick & took Nicks or would u rather have traded the 1st rounder for Boldin or Edwards?

With the way things shook out, I'm pretty satified with the route we went. Nicks is a very good player, he could end up being as good as those guys.

yeah but chances are he won't be for another couple years at least... this team is built to win championships right now... it's not all that cut & dry to me, but i'm not complaining about how things turned out... still i think i woulda easily been willing to trade a chance at Nicks for Boldin or even Edwards, & i think we coulda got either for a 1st round pick in this draft.

I know what you're saying TMS.

Honestly, I'm going to just accept what Reese did. To me, he's arguably the best exec in the NFL. This has nothign to do with your post really, but I'm just saying, whatever he thinks the best way to go was, I will gladly believe in.

Edwards is one of the most overrated receivers in the NFL. His best game last season was against the Giants. There is a reason why the Browns want to remove him from their roster even with the possibility of losing another to the penal system. The thing about Edwards he wants to be rewarded heavily for having a bad year to boot. A big no thanks. The Giants would have been better reaching out to Owens if they wanted the same headaches but bigger plays.

i wouldn't have traded Edwards for a 2nd & 5th so i'm not gonna complain that we didn't trade our 1st rounder for him obviously... for Boldin tho, man that's tough... reports were that the Cards were willing to trade him for a 2nd rounder & player considerations... if that's the case, we could have given up 1 of our 2nd rounders & traded down from the 1st round to take someone like Laurinaitis or Maualuga to be our MLB of the future, & still gotten our #1 veteran All pro WR upgrade for the now.

I liked the way it shook out, but if the cost was a 2 and a 5, I would've done it.

BTW, on Andre Brown- Jerry Reese said in his presser that they looked at his tape and thought he looked just like Derrick Ward. They had him runnning a 4.48 at 224 pounds as well (Ward was in the same range at that same size).

That was a false rumor. The Cards said their gonning price for Boldin was a 1 and 5 that's why teams didn't balk and they still wanted a young veteran too. I think Reese made the point of getting that out. The price was too steep for these guys. That's why the Eagles were scared off. I would love Boldin at 2 and a 5.

On Edwards too, he wants $10 million a year and guarantee type of money like Plax got. I have to see how Eli and Edwards mesh first because I'm not convince that's a great match. An inaccurate passer with a receiver with the hands of stone who like passes deliver right in his hands. That's why I like what Reese did in the draft he got receivers that best fit Eli rather than individual talent.

Apparently Boldin was asking for a tremendous amount of money for his extension too (same as Edwards).

I am very happy with the Giants draft. Reese is the man!! Taking Nicks, Barden and Beckum reminds of when we drafted Ingram, Odessa Turner and Stephen "The Touchdown Maker" Baker. Strength in numbers. Our defense is set with FA signings so the concentration on giving Eli more weapons is the way to go.

I also like the Andre Brown pick. I am just a little worried that he will mirror Joe Montgomery in injuries.

Yeah, I heard that on Friday. See I hate that. Boldin just got his payday about 3 years ago. Everybody talks about how the NBA needs to adapt the NFL salary system. That would horrible. Players holding out trying to renegotiate their contracts every couple of years. NBA rosters are too small to have to worry about hold outs.

Boldin is worth big dollars... anyway it's over & done with... i'm happy with our picks & i hope Nicks can come in & get acclimated fast to the offense... i don't think he's gonna be a #1 option for us this year just yet, but he should be a good player in time along w/Ramses... IMO Steve Smith is not a viable #1 WR option even in a stopgap role, i would much prefer him in his usual #3 slot WR role & groom Nicks as our #2 until he's ready to become the #1 guy, sorta like how we groomed Amani before Plax got here... i really do think Ramses & Nicks can become the next Plax & Amani duo, but i don't expect that to happen for a few years.

I actually see Steve Smith in the Wes Welker mold. I see him with double digit catches every game. I am hopeful that Super Mario will get his chance to shine as well. It's time to see if any of our WRs can step up and be the man. The key here is getting the Juggernaut running early and often. This will open up our passing game.

well, he had his time to shine last year and didnt do it. he needs time to be a legit receiver but we still looking for a number one target so we will see.

57 catches in your 2nd year when you're not the starter is nothing to sneeze at. Especially considering he barely played as a rookie. He's well on his way.

Another well run draft by one of the best organizations in sports. They're a machine at this point.

just some notes on Stoney Woodson:

http://www.prosportsdaily.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355650

Round 7, Pick 29 (238)
CB Stoney Woodson South Carolina

Height: 5-foot-11
Weight: 200 pounds
College: South Carolina
Conference: Southeastern
Class Year: Sr
Experience: 3V
Hometown: Tampa, FL
High School: Middleton

Analysis
Positives: Relatively instinctive defensive back with potential in a zone system. Displays good route recognition, stays with assignments, and quickly locates the pass in the air. Experienced at safety and does a nice job picking up assignments in centerfield.

Negatives: Marginally athletic, lacks a quick break to the throw out of his plant, and does not possess top end speed. Very quick out of his backpedal and prefers to side shuffle off the line.

Giants might sign Maurice Evans, which is the definition of low risk/high reward. Two seasons ago, he was a stud DE. Pre-season All American. Got caught smoking dope. Had a poor season last year. But the talent/ability is obviously there.

Don't know why this hasn't been posted yet, but this is why Hakeem Nicks is better than anyone else they could've taken:

Interesting...
The Giants reportedly had a deal worked out with the Lions that would have allowed them to move up to the 20th pick to select WR Jeremy Maclin.
The details of the potential trade aren't known, but it likely involved the No. 29 pick and an addition early-round selection. The deal was contingent on Maclin being available at No. 20, and was foiled when the Eagles traded up one slot ahead to grab him.
