Excellent response to being down early by locking in on defense

This the key to this team's prospects because when their shots are not falling they have to get stops, something they've failed to do against the better teams too often.

I would want to see more defense creating offense in the future, because that is what forges a team identity and keeps you in the game until you can get it rolling.

P.S. I think "Operation Hide Diawara" is over. The Knicks realized they need him on the floor to make a title run which is further proof IMO they will pay him whatever it takes to keep him

I just hope this doesn't turn into iHart 2.0

I'm not sure if we'd even have Bird Rights on him or how that works with a 2-way contract

Mo? His contract situation has been hashed out: he’s a RFA and Knicks can match.

Admittedly, I know little about this current CBA. This second apron business won't impede re-signing him? And what happens if/when we have to pay him above minimum?

Knicks can only technically offer him 120% of his contact. And they can match other offers because he is a RFA.

Second apron is only limiting if you make a Giannis level trade (it’s realistically only trade Knicks would do in this scenario) or sign a player to an MLE deal, then the second apron rules get turned on.

Long story short, another team could use cap space or MLE to sign him but Knicks could match. It’s a small and unlikely worry unless a GM decides to go all in on him.

It's going to be a dogshít free agency class, so I could easily see a team overpaying to get him and bank on his upside. He'd be perfect on the Lakers and I think they'll have max and a half worth of cap space to play with.

The Lakers could certainly tie up their valuable cap space and then have to wait to see if the Knicks would match while also watching other UFA go elsewhere.

They’d be making a long term bet on a second round type player. It could happen but it could also be an anvil on a GMs neck for the term of that contract. It’s a tough bet.

Mo has yet to prove himself as a starter, he is just an upside guy right now, no different than any first round pick.

Remember that this isn't the Buss kids doing their best to re-create scenes from the TV show Succession. That Dodgers owner is overhauling their front-office and its structure. I'm seriously worried they'll Brock Aller their way into contracts that serve the interest of the player but especially the team, while making it too difficult for us to match due to our own financial constraints. I mentioned this in another post but I have a similar concern with Landry Shamet for the same reasons. Dude is a perfect fit for Luka in the starting lineup.

Oh we're going to have to match. Lots of clubs already know he's worth far more than that.

Then it becomes a question of the offering team's intentions:

are they seriously ready to pay that amount or are they playing chicken so they force us over the cap if we match?

I don't think teams play chicken, considering what's at stake in the league. Offering him a contract would mean not having that portion of cap space available until NYK makes a decision on Diawara. And it's not just him I'm worried about leaving (particularly to LAL). I think that Landry Shamet is as good as gone. Dude has played so well that he'd be a fringe starter on a contender (depending on the context). Knowing he has never gotten paid, I can easily see him being woed by a large, multi-year commitment. He'd be a better version of what LAL was expecting with Gabe Vincent.

It's one reason I wanted DDV back so badly. I think he basically does what Shamet does, is bigger and offers cost-certainty for one more season....not to mention the Nova synergy he brings.

Yes, Shamet has played himself into a payday whether it is with us or elsewhere.

I understand talent, not caps, so I'd like to see your thesis play out.

Whatever the scenario, I cannot see letting Diawara sign with another club.

He's already filling the hole in the lineup for a stretch big. With his length, extension, athleticis and mobility, attacking instincts and quick reactions he gives you the presence of someone taller than he is.

There is alot of KD about his game already with how he can rake you from deep or take you off the dribble and get to the rim or kick it with just 2 or 3 steps.

His defense is what is going to be really impressive once he learns the game and the players in the league more fully. He's a guy who could average 2 blocks per game. His length will help knit together our defensive coverage and cut down on lanes to the rim.

Aprons matter but some think next year or 2 is where Knicks will go over that 2nd apron (maybe for Greek) and for guys like Mitch, Deuce, Mo.

Personally I think we are going to have to win it all this year or next or the grim reeper will come for J Hart and he may look like Mo D.

This is basically how it is and it’s not just the shooting it’s the other sloppy stuff along with the shooting.

Josh will win us some games though. He has 4-6 minute stretches where he dominates the game with his boards, full court dribbles and bullet passes.

Brown has the depth to sit him to collect himself when he is discombobulated.

We are down to worrying about resigning our vet min guy whose contract wasn’t even guaranteed until 2 months ago and our 51st pick who still can’t get consistent bench minutes in rotation.

Life is good.

Mitch was a turd again today - poor positioning on D, bad screens and 9’11” free throws.

Pretty amazing and he must be knocking every down in practice because everyone is finding him on offense, see Brunson, Jose, Mikal, Kat, Josh, everyone looking for him.

Agreed- he will have HUGE moments but Brown needs to recognize when/if he’s hurting us.

Mo and Shamet (+Deuce) give us some options if Bad Josh shows up.

Best win of the year for sure. No real back and forth or swings, complete control of the game for the final 40 minutes against a bonafide championship level team riding an 11 game winning streak.

I would agree.

It is their best performance this season coming at the beginning of a week that tests their resolve.

They passed the first test of the week with flying colors.

Let's see if they have found the inner strength to bring that level of collective effort every game.

Defense wins championships. Today was at that level. Do that on the regular and you're in the conversation again.
