I would love to look at a Vanderbilt/Mitch deal if they'd be open. We could use Vanderbilt as an OG protection play. Both are injury risks, maybe this works because they really need a 5 man and we need someone who can swing at PF and guard the perimeter behind OG.

We are not helping the Lakers! F them! If we are trading Mitch, we need a Center in return.

It’s not a knock on AD, but this trade completely bailed them out from what things may look like in a few years when lebron is gone and AD is declining. Luka sets them up for the foreseeable future. Suddenly they can trade their future picks for upgrades without holding their breath. No situation like the Suns are in. Luka changes it all. I get the conditioning concerns, but it’s a gamble you take. This trade is even more lopsided than Randle and Donte for KAT. No matter how smart these execs are, the dumb franchises seem to make questionable decisions when it’s all said and done.

Don't quite me on this, but the Lakers don't have much control of their picks either. I'm curious how they build the rest of their roster out.

They have Luka, Lebron and Hachimura that’s a pretty darn good 3 to have as a roster foundation. The heat were able to win championships with guys like The Birdman coming off the street as bench role players

Hach is mid and is clearly behind Reaves in terms of importance. And now they're even worse defensively. I don't see them challenging OKC this year. The year after? You really want to forecast the future with a 40 y/o who could leave? Also, the Lakers couldn't even build properly with AD and LeBron. We're so supposed to think Pelinka is going to up his game now?

Lebron is going nowhere especially now that Luka is there. His son is on the team, he wants to be in movies and it’s LA. I’m sure Silver isn’t done sending more players to the lakers in bs asinine trades.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think the Lakers are better this season with Luka over AD. We'll see how they look after the trade deadline but they don't have any size or front court depth and the duo of Luka and LeBum isn't a perfect fit since they both need the ball and play a similar style.

Honestly, it would be best for both the Lakers and LeBum if they part ways right now. They aren't winning a ring this season.

Nobody talking about AD in Dallas with that roster?
I never put Zion and Luka in the same basket. its about the finances and future breakdown with a superman contract.
Luka has been fantastic and lakers saw the chance to hive its star if and when Lebron bolts.
Rumored Luka is up to 270lbs. He whines and complains about calls, and his defense sucks.
There is the part about AD perhaps being a finishing piece for the here and now.

If they win a chip with AD, then it makes sense.
this trade is not as lopsided as thought. Dallas devalued Luka for a reason. Anyone think Zion and Pels love happily ever after?
They too will get cents on the dollar. If Zion, or Luka were seen as an albatross potential then you move on.
Luka next 5 years might not be so kind to him.

Luka is 6’6 230 Zion is 6’6 290. Luka went to a NBA Finaks last season. Zion has never sniffed a NBA Finals. Zion has played 65 or more games one season his entire career. Luka has done it 5 out of the first 6 seasons of his career.

Yeah totally the same guy.

Reports that Luka has gotten up to 270, don't know how reliable those are though

Risk meaning health?
Don’t think Dallas trading Luka had anything to do with how Dallas viewed his game or future health risk. Nor the size of his contract. If so, a mistake imo.
He is a top 4 All NBA player who is 25. and who will be the face of any franchise (NBA) for years to come.
Not sure if it is what you meant, but the only thing I feel Dallas could have been worried about, was NO contract after next year.
No one knows what went on behind the scenes but they may have had some info on his intent to not extend.
If so, They quickly pivoted to getting back another All NBA player who can still give them a chance to win the chip and who has more years under contract.

I have a wild thought that those 2 things, amongst many others, definitely have lead to the decision.

Luka was going to be eligible for the supermax extension. He was also going to have all the leverage to do whatever he wanted if Dallas wasn't the team he wanted to play on.

Still a horrible trade but thems the breaks I guess.

Which is fine and their right to do what they think is best. The issue is only trading with the Lakers and not even entertaining offers from other teams. It looks really suspect and I think there would be a good chance the trade gets vetoed if David Stern was still alive and running things. But we all know Adam Silver is a cuck and gutless.

AD is a really REALLY good player and without a doubt a future HOFer but he's 6 years old and at the tail end of his career. It might be a decent trade for Dallas for a year or two but their window is extremely short. They are also banking on that psycho Kyrie being on his best behavior. I don't like their odds.

Ultimately I hate this trade for Dallas and love it for the Lakers. Guys like Luka do not come around often. He's a generational talent. He's not perfect and I'm fully aware of the weight issues and the lack of 100% commitment to his craft but the talent is there and it's not like he hasn't produced. He almost won a ring last season! This also sets up the Lakers for life after LeBum. The hardest thing to do, as we all know here, when you're building a team is getting the main guy and they have it. Everything else from co-star, to supporting cast to finding guys that just fit are much easier now. Call it luck but teams just always seem to help the Lakers. Just wait for the next few days when some team gifts them a good Center for peanuts.

Moving Luka to LA is great for the league, why would Stern not like that?

You see what was. Then you extrapolate to the future.
Luka has one season over 65 games. You can color it to suit your position.
As for Lebron,, nobody said he was leaving. Accuracy, he is a producer of content, really does not act much. Stop pretending you in his inner circle.
As for how him and Luka will get along and share the ball is not my concern.
What I saw the other night was a Laker team that played speed defense similar to what Miami did when he was there. They don't have the guns to win a chip this year.
He could play with Clippers and not change his address?
His money? Thats his business.

Stern vetoed one deal because the league owned the NOLA team and selling it star before a new owner took over was was seen as not a good idea.
If LA is so good for the league, the nations second largest city, why would NBA not want knicks to succeed as many fans said over the years? Grudge? Thats what fans might think but league is profit driven. Knicks were badly managed for decades. Lakers did have a bad spell when Jimmy Buss was in charge. really bad.
Old story. Dallas has two centers to put out with Davis. If healthy Davis is a great player. Same for Luka!
Maybe Mavs could have done better via trade? But whom? I mean we can all sit here and second guess it but Giannis? And......Then bucks have to consider paying him or losing Luka? Nets? Lots of picks, but cam Johnson not going to get to the finals.
We'll know in the next three years based on results.
Dallas moved on because they are stupid? or had concern enough to move on.

$345m/$70m per year for a 6’6” white dude carrying an extra 50 pounds of Slovenian baby fat?

I believe he is 270. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if he were 280.

That extra weight is from carrying the Mavs to the finals last year. That team is phucked. How they complain about Luka's fitness only to hitch their wagons to two older players whose injury histories are just as bad? You're telling me AD isn't a risk? They're not winning a title with that roster even if AD is healthy.

The Mavs front office are idiots. If you believe what you believe on Luka, you should at least put it out there that he is tradable and let the bids coming in instead of contacting the Lakers directly on it

Mavs probably thinks that they are 1 superstar away from the NBA Finals without Luka. That is why they went after AD

It's not a fair trade and Stern blocked CP3 to the Lakers to play with Kobe.

Yep. Also, what assets do they have to get another star outside of Kyrie and AD? They have no real intention of contending, just staying competitive.

Wait, the League "Punished" the Lakers with the Paul trade according to Jeannie Buss.
Now knick fans saying the league always be halping the Lakers?

This might be the more the truth......https://www.latimes.com/sports/story/2021-12-13/chris-paul-trade-anniversary-lakers-nba-vetoed-clippers-david-stern#:~:text=Jackson%3A%20“David%20made%20some%20comment,property%20to%20a%20prospective%20owner.”

FYI: Dallas 13-9 with him this season
They are 13-15 without.

Perhaps with Dinwiddie, Grimes and Thompson they feel these guys can fill in SOME of what they lose with Luka. With AD, and healthy Lively they can make a run with their depth.
Im not here to say they will succeed but Im sure as hell not going to say they will suck. On the surface it seems nutty to trade a 25 year old super star.
Makes you ask yourself "what don't I know?? Rather than Tilt to "Conspiracy" perhaps there is another angle.
It all gets sorted out on the court!

I suppose they could over look the issues with his technicals over the years.
And the complaining to refs rather than get back on defense.
The guy is crazy talented.
But the constant out of shape thing? Thats not easy.

the more i think of it, this had to 100% be the issue. Doesn't explain why they didn't field more offers though

Luca could be 300 and still get 30, 8 and 8. He is one of the most talented players in NBA history. There isn't a pass or shot he can't make, literally. He's still 25. I am still stunned.

Saw video of him landing in LA. He ain’t no 270. Besides, he will now have plenty of d motivation to get in shape.

For those saying a team would not be able to build around a guy making $70M , what about KAT contract? And he is nowhere near being top 4 in NBA.
Also, this is based on the premise that Luka would not have taken less for the sake of building a better chance to win.

FYI, he just closed on a $15m house in Dallas.
