Knicks are center hunting... KAT, Kessler, Sengun, who else? Randle could be, of course, at the center of all of this

Low cost high upside potential.
Under Thibs Howard would have a specific role he could excel at.
If he is in shape and buys into the culture I think this would work.
Precious was fantastic when he was forced into a starting role last season.
I can't understand why he is still available.

Dwight Howard is a not good locker room guy. Most teams are staying away because of it

Plus he is old. We needs long term solutions.

Always preferred long term, but year to year short term solutions are necessary when your trying to manage a cap.
Players do change as their status changes. Is Dwight the same ass hole was was in his early 20's?
Maybe he a worse ******* now? Or perhaps if given a chance to roster would be a different guy?
If on a short term deal, he opens a mouth, he gone. His status is gone.
Dwight was a hell of a player in prime and healthy.

By the way I find it interesting that Precious is not rumored to be close to a deal with anyone else but we have not agreed to terms with him yet. I have a feeling they are checking around the league for what Centers might be able to be picked up in the next year on the trade market. They will then give Precious a deal that helps facilitate that probable trade. Since we are now over the 1st apron we can no longer take back more money in trades. SO even if it means overpaying Precious it could help us down the road. I have to think about these things because our front office is always thinking ahead.

The nice thing about Precious, is that he can fill in at PF or Center. With Randle and Mitch dealing with serious injuries in the past, that could be important. Hope the FO can make it happen.

Knicks can utilize him in a S&T in a package with Deuce & or another draft asset to net an upgrade. I believe they aren't committing yet while figuring out what they can pull off. For example as cap filler he could sign a 1yr $12mil deal, packaged with Deuce that becomes $16-$17mil.

Edit; Though there may be rules that he has to be signed to a multi year deal in a S&T.

Dwight has made some lifestyle choices that may not make him the most welcome or comfortable person in a locker room. The rest is up to you and Google.

What's the story on Kai Sotto. Went undrafted in 2022. I think that makes him an unrestricted free agent. But he's talking about joining the 2025 draft? Injured in one of the Olympic qualifiers. 7'3. Can move a little bit.

I mean, his lifestyle choices are his lifestyle choices. But I haven't heard anything about the SA lawsuit. That would be too much of a distraction from a backup center.

I would hope that in 2024 Dwight’s sexuality is not an issue. Assault is one thing and that appeared very questionable. Preference is another entirely. Anyone chasing that is way out of line.

His age and absence from the league make it moot.

What I read about Howard was that he would sometimes clown around after tough losses, and his teammates didnt appreciate that. Wasnt like the traditional locker room disruptor.

Didnt hear of any complaints with the Lakers when they won it all. Played well in a reserve role, but that was a few years ago. I'd prefer to see Precious signed. Wouldnt be a learning curve.

If we have to sign Dwight Howard next season it will be on a 10-day contract due to an emergency like both Mitch and Sims getting injured at the same time.

I am aware of his reputation as a locker room cancer, but this team is not floundering and looking for leadership.
That's what I meant by the need for him to buy into the culture.
I would be most concerned about his lateral foot speed defending on the perimeter.
I'd have him in for a look see.

Think of it from the opposite direction. Why would the Knicks proactively burden themselves with the extra work and risk involved in bringing in a late 30yo who hasn't been in the NBA for a minute who also may need extra management and could adversely effect an incredibly positive culture when there are plenty of good enough replacements?

What is the downside risk and is the return worth it?

It's a 2 second decision tree that ends with Pass.

Just look at what Thibs and his staff did last year.
Brunson, Donte, Precious, Mitch before he was hurt, Deuce, IHart, Hart all had the best seasons of their careers.
Signing Payne has me worried that Deuce and Simms are going to be packaged with pick(s) for another center.
Don't want Towns. He'd be worse than Howard at his worst for the team.
He needs the ball more than Randle.
I like the ball in Brunson's hands.
Dwight Howard at his best is a beast as a rebounder, rim protector, screen setter and roller.
And it will only cost us a minimum salary on a 1 year deal.
Thinking about it from Howard's point of view, here's a chance to get a ring.
If I was him being out of the league and playing internationally on the other side of the world, I would do anything for this opportunity.

Every single GM since 2022 has thought that Dwight Howard is not worth it. Dwight is going to be 39 very soon.

What information on Dwight do you have that is better than every GM in the league?

Do you even realize he has been out of the league that long and is that old?

Portland is long on centers. Their #7 pick looks ready to play now. Ayton or Williams might be targets for us. McBride would be appealing to Portland.

Portland is trying to figure out what to do with the young guards they already have. I'm not sure they want another one.

They have Simmons & Scoot with Sharpe as a 2/3.. not much else after trading Brogdan.
