This is an Allan Houston contract.

OG hasn’t played over 50 games in 3 of the last 4 seasons. Hasn’t played 70 games since 2018.

No it's not - Houston was on one knee when we extended him - that was bad on us - and we had no talent - so we were maxing out a guy that was hurt and doing so with a deficient roster.

Yes- OG has been hurt- but they have been all freak, one off type injuries- some of this is bad luck- some might go away with getting stronger.

So all the people not happy with the OG signing tell me what would have been the better course of action.

Martin, do you feel good about 5 years and $40 million+ per season?

It’s fine at the moment because Brunson and Bridges are bargains.

We absolutely couldn’t lose him; when he plays, we are elite. But true to form, he broke down twice.

Bridges can man the spot, and DDV can slide back in as a starter. Depth is our strength.

The number just feels a little scary, which was always the concern.

If he stays healthy, I think we are the favorites.

Love it. Was hoping to better. Had him pegged at a $35m AAV and was hoping for a discount. But damned if I would see him take a max in Philly. He literally shut down teams by himself. Re-watch Knicks-Denver in January. It’s insane how bad he made Jamal Murray look. Not a “bad night”. Shut em Down. eFG beast. Hustle stat champion. Biometric elite. He is essentially modern basketball’s poster boy. The next best poster boy? Mikal Bridges. In two years you’ll be laughing about the time you thought we overpaid for OG.

You know I gonna spin wit it

Now that its happened, this team just put the rest of the NBA on notice.

I really hope OG is able to stay healthy.

I see the Knicks trying to trade up and draft Edey tonight

They didn’t.

The max another team could have offered OG was 4/$182M.

Max Knicks could have offered was 5/$240m

Got it!

Thanks for clarifying

I think OG is in tremendous physical shape to play the level of defense he does. But I also think there are limits to his body. In the game OG hurt his hamstring, he was showing the world he has the tools to be a legit offensive star. You could almost see something was going to happen - he was playing much harder than normal and exerting himself on both ends of the floor. And that puts him at risk of injury.

Sure, a lot of his injuries are triggered by flukey stuff (stepping on someone's foot, getting bumped off-balance). You can train for those type of hits. Look at Tua Tagovailoa. He was always getting banged up for the first few years of his career... then last year he started taking jiu jitsu lessons, learning how to fall and take hits. I don't think he missed a game last season.

It's something the Knicks should look into to protect their investment.

The thing about OG is that he actually just needs to go on a prolonged healthy streak so his body has a chance to really get in peak condition. I'm sure his training was at least somewhat impacted by his elbow surgery. It took him time to get his conditioning back, and ultimately with that much time off he wasn't going to be 100%.

We are 14-17 without OG and 26-6 with OG. You PAY him!

Especially when the other option is us losing them for nothing. I guess you can't please everyone no matter how clear cut the choice seems.

But what happens once Brunson, Bridges and Randle come up for an extension? All this talk about first and second apron goes out the window, we are destined to blow through both within a couple of years.

Yeah, we gave up RJ and IQ for the privilege of overpaying a good defensive and a mediocre offensive injury-prone player.
Well, Bill Russell was not a beast on offense either. I hope that OG provides a similar impact to justify all the sacrifices the team is making to have him. But, realistically, I think the chances of this overpay blowing up in our faces are higher. I can only console myself with the thought that this FO proved me wrong before.

OG did not make any concessions. He was in a position of power. If we did not signed him to this contract, other teams would have been happy to pay him a near max contract as well. It's not like we were the only team to pay near max. That's his market.

We've been so used to having players who exceed their contracts. This is what teams usually face when negotiating with good players.

You can’t let OG walk - the question is- can we trade him if we want to and get a decent return? I think the answer is yes unless there is a dramatic injury that ends his career. And you can’t run a biz worried about that potential.

Playing D at the level OG does it contributes to injury prone risks. In his case, it's worth that trade off. Combined with Mikal, Randle could take a ****ing nap on that end of the court and the other team would still struggle to score. Leon is an amazing team builder. Elite talent (without a single super star), depth, chemistry, grit...everything we want in NYC. And he did it with elite level PATIENCE! Unheard of here.
