Is DDV showing that Grimes is expendable?

I know its a small sample size but DDV looks like a better starter than Grimes. More in the toolbox on offense.

Enough of a sample size to argue that IQ is a better starter than Grimes.

If Deuce can prove that he can be a reliable backup PG. Trading Grimes could open up what looks like a bottlekneck at guard. And get us more help in the frontcourt.

Why not ? Caruso is not a PG. He’s a wing at this point who is primary 3&D plus he keeps the ball moving.

Would anyone consider moving grimes, Fournier and a 2024 pick (ours or Dallas) for Dorian Finney-Smith ? Nets are asking for 2 firsts for him. They have a lot of bigger wings and could use a younger guard. For us Finney-Smith is essentially Grimes skill set in a bigger body and can play some backup 4. He also has previous chemistry with Brunson. Not saying I would but wondering if it’s worth a consideration.

Hell no... that's lateral at best. Grimes is better, younger, and cheaper.

Any of them can start. That’s the nice thing about it with the versatility. I only mention DDV because he seems like the next most likely starter if there’s any sort of in-season change.

The bottom line is I'm not seeing anything from Grimes right now that says he should be in the Starting lineup.
Everybody needs to put their big boy pants on, sit down at the table and tell him, no offense, we love you, but time to come off the bench until things get better.

Can’t speak for his ability to play starter minutes and how he manages his injuries.
At some point we hate to take a player out but when they fatiqued is when they get sloppy, miss shots, and get hurt.
Coaches to succeed stay out in front and does not make sense to us watching the game.

I will compliment our staff big time for managing Mitch and iHart. They have been “reaching in” on defense very effectively and mostly staying out of foul trouble. Not making sloppy fatigue induced mistakes is both player and coach succeeding! The steals and deflections have been really effective t his year!!!

Between DDV and even Miles and Rokas. we are well set up to absorb the loss of Grimes and IQ in a potential trade for DM.

DDV is only playing 20mpg this year, way down from seasons past. He's shown he can play much more on a championship team.

Even when he started for MIl he only avg’d 27min per game. That is his career peak.
Then there was the ACL.
Last year he proved durable playing 26min per in 72 games.
We have a short sample with him as he adopted to a new team but one might look for correlations of how he does with 20-23 min per game, the out come of those games, and his salary.
At 12mil per he was not looking for starter money nor expecting it. This might be his role, super sub that can go a certain amount of minutes but kicks ass and is cool with it.
None of us are privy to this. Im not saying don’t start him. Im looking at reasons for why he is succeeding and the team does well. If he finishes, thats more important.

Grimes needs to put us out of our misery and pull a Westbrook by asking coach to come off the bench. IQ and DDV are playing too well to be losing minutes to Grimes.

i feel like it was inevitable that some of these guys would struggle and complain. just not enough minutes to go around. Shooters like Grimes need Rhythm. Same thing with Evan, he shot 33/30% last year, is it because he forgot how to shoot all of a sudden or just never got any rhythm.

IQ is the one im worried about most, he's down to just 24mpg, hasn't even cracked 20 min the past 3 games... i worry he might ask out.

The minutes typically balance out over the course of the season with injuries. Barrett was out for a bit and the rest played the right number of minutes. My concern is Grimes seems focused on shots and likely thinking about a potential extension. He isn’t embracing his 3&D role. It’s why I would much rather move him and picks for Caruso who is a fully realized version of what we hope grimes would become but probably won’t. Elite 3&D plus connector ability. Proven in both a bench and starters role. Grimes is showing zero adaptability and a great team needs adaptable players who can play multiple role and not fluctuate in effort or attitude. It doesn’t make grimes wrong in the things he says, but it’s clearly affecting his play. Give grimes until the new year to sort it out internally but then it’s time to look at different options at the starting SG either internally or via trade.

I thought the whole concept of being a role players is playing your role well or at an elite level. I’m not sure how Grimes could mes back from this. IQ is a volume shooter, this is what you get when you put better players around him. Jokubaitus would be a better fit in that rotation. I don’t know what the answer is for RJ. He’s regressed back to a fetas on offense but his D looks worlds better

You might be right. I'm not concerned yet but Grimes going public like that combined with Hart saying something last week, and IQ probably having more reason to say something than either gave me pause. They are winning too. Things normally hold when you win. Hopefully, they don't start losing, and if they do guys stay together. The team is good but it's a little bit of a bad sign IMO
