I remember the 1996 draft. The clowns in the media were mocking anyone for even considering taking a high school kid like Kobe Bryant. Calipari said “hold on guys, I know he’s only in high school but he’s only one year younger than Allen Iverson who is going first overall”. Kobe was drafted 13th overall and traded for Vlade Divac

This means that at #11 you not only pick the best player available, but also the best prospect available. I.e., someone whose potential has the highest ceiling, despite existing flaws and question marks. I.e., picking a Kevin Knox over Mikal Bridges.

I am personally down with this, but the sentiment of Knick fandom has been very different in recent years.

Need still has to be a factor. I keep seeing all these posts in the draft thread about wing players who shoot in the low to mid 30’s from 3. But hey the wingspan and athleticism

And these same guys claim to hate frank

But this is how teams miss out on the likes of Jimmy Butler, Klay Thompson, Michael Redd, Kawai or Spree. If the prospect has great athleticism, wingspan, motor, can score one-on-one, defends well and is not a total jackass from 3-point land, he should deserve a very close look. I just doubt that anyone from our stockpile of SF/SGs (aside from RJ) is a starting player for a championship contending team.
And if our biggest need is a true floor-general of a PG for a starting spot, I do not see anyone like that in this draft. Not anyone who would be an upgrade over IQ.

The Knicks have their PGs on the roster already. They just need to be given the keys.

For every Jimmy Butoer there’s 35 Franks and 50 Tim Hardaway Jrs

We absolutely are in dire need of a pg and Chandler will be there at 11
