I don't know how true this is because POWs can be forced to say anything while captured but it is interesting if true.
I do not know if this particular guy is being forced, but what he is saying is 100% correct. I have decided to get out of Russia and seek a fresh start elsewhere, perhaps return to the US. Living in Russia you had to accept a gradual dismantlement of basic human rights: freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of electing your government - all disguised under a mantle of fake democracy with fully rigged elections, opponents of the regime getting harassed and jailed on trumped up charges, and propaganda running amok spreading blatant lies on state TV to a completely unquestioning and brainwashed audience. But you learn to live with it because of economic opportunity, rich cultural offerings and having already rooted yourself in the country.
But a full-blown military invasion of a neighboring country, moreover, a brotherly East Slavic nation with whom we share common history, religion and very often family bonds, invading it like the Nazis invaded it back in 1941 is an extreme step even for such a dictatorial regime as Putler's. Russians may continue living under the illusion that the war will end soon with a full victory for Putin's army, and that economically Putin's Russia will rise quickly, switching its partnerships and trade towards China, India and Arab countries. The disappointment will sink in slowly, albeit inevitably. And perhaps this man is already seeing it and warning his compatriots back home that the awakening to the truth is going to be a harsh one.
We saw the early seeds of a democracy coming undone here under Trump. Tried to control the Media. Tried to change laws. we are not out of the woods.
Putin is Trumps hero. not my words, look at his interactions and lust for the powers Putin has.
Im amazed the coordinated efforts to isolate Russia. Im sad for its people but they must rise against him. Democrazy is a precious commodity. We are far from pure here ourselves and stand to improve ourselves.
The video hardly looks like a guy being coerced into a statement. It flows too easy.
We can send arms and money but provoked into a war on that soil becomes a big issue. How does one really win that war? What human toil is acceptable?
Putin succeeded helping Trump get elected and Trump did his part by attempting to fracture the EU and Nato.
They saw Putin coming and its obvious in its unified approach they had that contingency anticipated by the quick actions to drive sanctions up. The Ruble decimated makes not doing business with russia more than a moral choice. If companies can’t get paid, they won’t do business.
There is a faction of Nazi like militants in Ukraine that Putin speaks of. That is true. But they are not being over run by them nor is putin saving anyone from them.
To complicate things don’t forget Trump asking Zelinskey to assist in fabricating Hunter Biden issues two years when he was in office.
The putin love from hard core ignorant GOP aids to fracture us and that party. Some admire strongman leaders like Putin and wanted Trump to be that guy.
Nalod can only start to wrap my head around all this but offers no concrete solutions that was should enter the fray. I want Russia to back off. I want sanctions lifted if Putin steps away and a true democracy can rise. I don’t know if thats even possible.
As for my Ukrainian ties, my Jewish great grandparents left in and around 1900 and lets just say before soviet rule they were quite intolerant of minorities and killed. Soviet occupation made it worse and Nazi occupation made it easy for the Ukrainian population to turn over its fellow countrymen then face harsh retaliation if resisted. To be fair, we have exacted many atrocities ourselves as Americans on others and our indigenous populations so its not entirely fair to point fingers. Ukraine has a popular Jewish president so some things must be easing up.
I’ll support a democracy willing to stand up for itself. I’ll support aid and lifting of sanctions to a Russian that will dispose of Putin, install a democracy and work towards peace than aggression.
