RJ could be the Tim Duncan of SGs. They are similar athletes. Duncan always failed the eye test. He was a stiff. He was an ungraceful athlete. But an incredibly effective one. The speed was there, the quickness was there, the stroke was there.... it just didnt LOOK there, and RJ is like that. He does really good things but looks so clunky doing it you are like wait.. that was good right?

The Minn game really stood out to me because time and time again he stuck with Edwards stride for stride and was right on his hip on defense. Edwards who is a wild athlete and football player simply couldnt shake RJ. Barrett was on him the whole time. On offense RJ had a lot of "good misses" but still finished with 21 on 10-20 (0-1 FT ) but the point is when matched up against a young high flier like Edwards I expected RJ's athleticism to potentially be exposed and it was the opposite. RJ is also built like a truck. He's a big kid and as he gets a bit stronger those drives are going to more that much more effective. You cant run him over on offense and he plays in the paint like he belongs.

I am feeling more and more like we have a real young nucleus with RJ/IQ/Mitch, Randle's a legit 26 year old all star. I actually hope we keep Noel, who's also 26 and would be a great backup/insurance/depth/rotation guy for a long time.If we could somehow add 2-3 more of that caliber we would REALLY be cooking Im still an Obi believer but we'll talk about him when he's popping. Right now its RJ and its great.

Wholly agree. RJ, IQ, Randle, and Mitch with Noel backing up Mitch is a solid base. I also like Toppin longterm as a guy who can grow into a good scorer, who we can then keep or trade to help in another area. RJ, IQ, and Randle all have star potential.

Agreed that Randle, Barrett, and Quickley (who i consider the core) all have star potential to some degree. Randle already there and just scratching the surface. Hopefully Robinson/Noel provide a stable long-term center duo. Toppin will be fine, but we will have to see if his future is here, or if he becomes part of a package for another high-level starter. Barrett is sort of the swing player for the future of this team. If he continues to improve like he is now, he becomes a star and raises the ceiling of this team long-term. Right now it's looking very good.

Nah. Most will focus on how he is not taking us to the finals as a 20 year old. Hopefully we have a FO in place that thinks about more than a couple of weeks out. Think so far, they have shown the desire to develop the youngins with patience.

Yes and no. Make Thibs happy and you play. Mess up and the vet comes in. I’m actually ok with it. WE are thinning the herd at the same time. Trier was made gone. Dennis in exile and Frank’s clock is ticking very loud. Well see in two weeks if he gets moved and into Free agency if we keep him. There will be others.

RJ ascent is with precision. Just incrementally keeps getting better month by month. Thus far injury free as well. Just a pleasure to have this kid!

I wonder if this is going to be one of the greatest parts of his skill set. Very refreshing.

I was just coming to this thread to post this. RJ is a willing learner it’s quite telling given that I don’t think Butler gives that advice to anyone.
