If the Knicks see I guy they really like being projected to go in the 20s, if moving up 4 spots increases you chances of getting the guy you want by say 30% and all you had to do is forfeit a 2nd round pick (#38), it makes total sense to me. Especially since acquiring a 2nd pick elsewhere is probably very doable. Philly has four 2nd round picks. You would think simply buying one from them is an option.

Understood but you don't increase your chances by giving up an asset. You wait for the Jazz to draft that player then trade the 27 and 38 for him. In this particular draft there isn't much separation from the picks in the 20's to the picks in the 40's or so. So why give up what can be 2 quality players for 1 quality player that really isn't markedly better?

Yeah its really stupid it makes zero sense

I saw this draft as one with just 5 high ceiling players. However, also felt like from 6 to 30 there were all players with solid floors. Trading the 8th for multiple picks and keeping 27 and 38th seemed to make the most sense early. However, do see the side that Rose may not want that many rookie contracts if he is looking to compete this year. So understand the strategy to use the picks to upgrade or use in a trade. But why use them to just move up 4 spots? Hopefully they saw something they needed to move on.
