Nope, the passing isn't going anywhere. That's a skill that won't be subject to the same potential decline.

Chandler could only be set-up.

Noah can do the setting up.

The dude is just in his own category with post-passing and getting better.

35% of the times he touched the ball last year it ended in an assist.

To show it wasn't a one-year anomaly based on limited playing time, the year before it was 33%

Having a player on the floor like that is hard to qualify.

having him in the same front count with Porzingis is tantalizing.

Noah makes all kinds of sense for the Knicks. People are stuck on his stats last year when he wasn't healthy and wasn't starting. He's missed games but I think the Shoulder Injury hurt him last year but gave his Knees a break. He may come back fresher than in recent years.

Starphucks always make perfect sense, till they don't. But by then it's usually too late. Rose, Noah and Melo all have injury histories and each is in decline to different extents. I am not comfortable with this sudden switch off philosophy. I definitely liked the slow build up better, and wanted to see Phil start the course on that.

Also, someone, I think maybe Walt said something to the effect that Noah might help tether DRose and make him feel more comfortable... I think that could be very true. There are plenty of on court reasons to sign Noah, but that may be a big off court one.

Also, Rose and Melo are quiet guys, not vocal leaders. They're more lead by example guys. Noah is an on the court coach. He will scream out defensive assignments and he is very vocal. The team needs an on court veteran LEADER. Noah is one of the best.

100% correct... but he is ALWAYS hurt. He has never been able to stay healthy in his career. Now with smaller lineup and KP playing some 5 potentially he should be able to keep his minutes reasonable, but whats the contract? I mean he's a great player.. even all banged up he embarrassed Lopez last year.

If we could balance this by signing a younger I would open for sure... he would be a great addition. Even as a teacher for Willy, KP, KOQ.. etc

All I can say is fingers crossed he's healthy if we sign him. He never is. Great player though... tough call

How is he "ALWAYS" hurt? For his career, he's played in 572 games out of 738. That's 78% of games played.

That number increases to 83% if you remove last season (543 games played out of 656), his worst season in terms of health.

Is he going to be the league's iron man? No. Are his injury issues from last season an indicator of future health issues, perhaps.

But I wouldn't say he's always hurt.

He's averaged 64 games a season. That is missing more than a month and half a year on average, almost 20 games a year. That's a lot. 78% doesn't seem so bad, but its pretty bad. IT would be like signing him but he can play until Christmas... dude is hurt a lot and misses a lot of games. Im a fan but its part of the picture with Noah.

Better start warming up to him now... Sure sounds like he's gonna be the guy.

Not for nothing, but Robin Lopez averages 68.

One of the complaints when we signed Robin Lopez was that he was injured all the time.

Horford and Durant recently lost full seasons to injuries. It happens in the NBA.

Robin Lopez cost us 12MM a year. If we get Noah at 12-15 no one will complain. If we get him for 25-30MM then yes the missed games are much bigger issue.

If Phil gives Noah $25M a year, I'll be convinced he's trying to troll Melo into begging for a trade.

(and I'm saying that as someone who would be very interested in signing Noah at a reasonable/fair price)

Not going to comment Noah until after he's signed and I now for how long and how much.

Rose works and it works.

Rose doesn't and the 2017 draft pick is probably better. The 'risk' in this risk/reward better draft pick and more 2017 cap space.

The only downside of Rose failing is that we've seen that Free Agency is very much about how the players perceive things. If the Knicks have another rough season, we will not be a free agent destination in 2017, I don't think.

But the high draft pick would be nice.

He was never really trying to do a slow build up tho! Last summer he tried to get DeAndre, so he wasn't exactly mailing it in and waiting to build thru the draft. The real switch came with his decision to try and make the Triangle more modern and hiring Hornacek. They both only have 3 years and they want to win NOW. All this cap space was part of the plan. Now he gets to put that to good use along with Rose. It's not about this being a Starchase. He needed a PG that does what Rose does and he could get him because of his recent past. Betting that Rose can get his game back is a good risk.

All the while he's trying to win now and also build for the future. So he's still got young talent he's bringing in behind these older top players. It's a very sound plan despite what you might think. He's not abandoning youth entirely. Remember we have a 2017 1st and 2nd rd pick after this trade.

Respectfully, nothing Jax did so far this season has shown me this isn't still a slow rebuild. We can all talk about star free agents. No one came last year and we signed some intermediate players. Decent guys we all like. Now, front court actually is a position of relative strength. On a PER basis, OQuinn is about as effective as RoLo. His stupid mistakes are more polarizing. But much of that may be nerves. They removed long term salary for short term in the first breathe. And they exchanged Big for Small to accommodate a need. Rose is risky, but that's the benefit of the price. They still created value. So, even if this team implodes and we miss all of free agency, we are all back to the baseline of the tank many of us including me suggested. With less long term salary. If it plays out, we have an extremely loyal top 5 point guard.

I like this from a game theory standpoint. It improves our worst case scenario.

We do get some insight - we've seen Jamal and Noah have more interest since the Rose trade.

People talking about Noah's decline over the past couple years should look more closely at his numbers. The decline is almost entirely scoring. His rates of rebounds, blocks, steals, assists remained consistent with his career numbers. I'm not sure about last year, but this year you could attribute his offensive decline to Hoiberg's system. If we bring in Noah, he's not going to be here for offense.

Finally, Jackson will turn his attention to building a supporting cast and one former Knick emerging as a viable option is Jamal Crawford, the NBA's only three-time Sixth Man of Year.

Crawford, 36, has strong support within the Knicks organization and that feeling appears to be mutual.

"I'm not talking about any one team but everyone knows how I feel about New York," Crawford told The News. "I really enjoyed my time there."

The positive feelings the Knicks have toward Joakim Noah are mutual.

According to an NBA source, the Knicks have “a very high interest” in signing the 6-foot-11 Noah to play center in a frontcourt that would feature Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis. Another NBA source said Noah is eager for at least a sit-down with the Knicks.

Yes, he was. He was good player a solid contributor and an extremely reasonable contract. This will be clearer when we overpay Noah for a one year rental on what we already had. Lopez was both a trade asset and a high value fixture for multiple years. We used him in a trade but we got a high upside and even higher risk player back on a one year rental. We could have held on to him - his value would have been even higher as the dust settles on Centers in the new cap rules era. We could and should have done better. IMO

It's quite obvious there's no information as to who the free agent is since it plainly states the FA requested anonymity and B) the question was asked post-Rose trade so clearly the Rose trade had an impact on the FA's answer.

The tweet didn't say much, but it said the Knicks are in the top 4 of a FA's list of places to play right now. Hey, at least we can frame the information to know it wasn't Kevin Durant who put the Knicks in his top 4.

I said slow build, not build through the draft. Slow build means you collect easily tradeable assets and you wait - you develop young players and yes you draft what you can. Only trade in your chips for sure value not for high risk short term deals. He did the asset accumulation to a degree then he went off and dumped those assets for the short term rental scenario. The goal is no cap space the goal is to build a solid sustainable team. Cap space is the means to get there but you guys want to pay roulette every year with free agency and overhaul the roster - this won't lead to good outcomes, never has. The LeBron/Superfriends model has taken hold and people are getting intoxicated with all kinds of far flung BS about Kevin Durant - go ahead knock yourselves out.

When you trade in your best chip for a one year rental that may also turn into a starphuck max contract for a often injure guy with character issues and bad defense can you honestly sit there and say it's a slow rebuild?

Nope, the passing isn't going anywhere. That's a skill that won't be subject to the same potential decline.

Chandler could only be set-up.

Noah can do the setting up.

The dude is just in his own category with post-passing and getting better.

35% of the times he touched the ball last year it ended in an assist.

To show it wasn't a one-year anomaly based on limited playing time, the year before it was 33% (different head coaches and different offensive system year-to-year, btw. He simply sees the court like a PG and a very good PG at that).

Having a player on the floor like that is hard to qualify.

having him in the same front count with Porzingis is tantalizing.

Tyson was an example of a very good defensive player. Something Noah is more known for than anything else. Just dont believe the main reason team are considerimg him is his abiloty to pass. Altgough it is a good side note. And with the new NBA I just think there is the big premium paid to good defensive 5's anymore. As small ball and stretch 5's have taken over. Specially for us with JH, who had Frye as his optimum center. But like I said, for the right price, he would be an asset to the character of the team. But definitely not at anything close to 20m per or more. Which has been discussed.
