Makes sense. I see Jackson making some change to roster with an eye towards tomorrow whether that be either acquiring a draft pick, a young developing player or clearing more room ala Calderon for a 16-17 free agent. Affalo, Calderon and Seraphan have all raised their trade value somewhat to on the cusp contenders. Galloway and Oquinn might net a marginal return. Wouldnt say Williams is untradeable but wouldnt be easy to move his overpayment. Could see Washington asking about Melo but see him staying put and Phil adding a third player next year via FA

HELLO the Clippers! Doc Rivers is a terrible GM and if there is any contender that would overpay in a trade to improve their bench, it'd be them. Give them Calderon, Seraphin and Early and take back a first rounder during the year the Clippers will miss the playoffs. To balance the deal money wise, I'd take back Lance Stephenson and their 2014 first round pick, CJ Wilcox. I'D IMMEDIATELY WAIVE STEPHENSON WHO IS JUST AN EXPIRER and then move on with my day.

Don't know if Melo would agree to trade for Portis. I like Myles Turner too but again will LaLa pack for those destinations. Both are obviously young and would merit minutes ans immediate rotation value. Now how to upgrade at PG? A two way player.

Okay, how?

See Thanksgiving of November 2015.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2593575-dwyane-wade-chris-bosh-and-carmelo-anthony-spend-thanksgiving-together-in-ny

I meant, how do you get him to Miami?

ESPN trade machine checks out.

See. Anyone can be a GM!

So Miami is passing on Whiteside next year? They picking Melo over him?

?

Don't they have his bird rights?

No, they have his early Bird rights and given he already had two years service time before they got him, that means he's unrestricted.

So they essentially have nothing. They don't have matching rights. They can only re-sign to 175% of his 2015-16 salary or 104.5% this season's average salary.

He gets a big contract, they have to use cap room to sign him. If they have Melo-Wade-Bosh-Dragic on the books, Whiteside is gone unless he plays for the average salary for at least 2 years.

Doesn't the salary cap go up next year?

http://nba.nbcsports.com/2015/04/17/report-nba-predicts-89-million-salary-cap-in-2016-22-million-jump-and-it-keeps-going-up/

It does. Significantly.

Trying adding up Bosh, Melo, Dragic 2016-17's salaries and Wade's cap hold, subtract it from the new cap and see what you have left.

Spoiler warning - this is legitimate ... and common knowledge.

Isn't Wade a free agent also? Don't think he'd sign for the max at his age again.

Melo-Bosh-Dragic will make $65m between them.

If Melo is declining, and Melo-Wade-Bosh are so close and Wade is still good enough to make them a legit contender (then entire premise of the concept), how much you think Wade's settling for, given what he already deferred?

Either way, subtract Winslow's $2.6m from the $24m you have left.

Now, show me how Miami can sign Wade, Whiteside and 6 other players (making their bench worth a damn) for $21.4m.

Wade can't take the vet minimum for a year before re-visting a lifetime achievement max contract the following year?

Worse comes to worse, is it really that hard to fathom and Melo and Jerian Grant deal for Dragic, Winslow and contracts? You don't really need a dynamic PG when you have Melo, Bosh and Wade on one team. Besides, it isn't like Dragic has set the world on fire as a Heat, which should make such a deal all the more feasible.

For the record, I'd hate giving up Grant and would pursue any other means to compensate the Heat (along with Melo).

Yes…

Not even mentioning Melo-Bosh-Wade-Whiteside would be extremely difficult to pull off too.

Aside from one breakout season during Eric Bledsoe's first season in PHO, has Dragic really been anything more than an average to good PG? People walk around like his **** don't stink in spite of all his obvious flaws. Not to mention that he's about to turn 30 in a league that is getting progressively bigger, stronger and faster at his position. Needless to say, I don't see Dragic aging well but will be locked into a long term deal. And you still think a trade involving him would be unreasonable?

I'd say its a good trade for us very short term. He is a free agent but I don't think he is enough to elevate the team short term.

Thing is we dont' really know why Ropez is falling off a bit and it would be no secret to bulls to why we'd want to move him just Six weeks into a new season. It also does not bode well to displace new free agents so fast unless its discussed at signing. Free agents would not find that appealing.

THe only starphuch trade I would not mind is being liberated from trying to build around Melo and focus on a longer term goal which my prize would be Winslow in Miami who is in more of a win now mode anyway. This comes at a price and to me a Melo/Calderon for Winslow and Dragic gives me enough to keep us respectable (not tank city) while building a core. I don't think this puts us in the playoffs this year but helps Miami and maybe if Wade can come off his price he can see they might have a 2 year window with that team with Whiteside.

Any trade with Clippers or Lakers Would be centric on picks and prospects and would likely involve a third party.

I have complete confidence that Melo and PHil have laid out scenarios where Melo could be traded and both be happy with the outcome. This even before he resigned with us. There were certain financial realities in place for both to make that deal. Phil has tickets to sell and a legacy to build while Melo wants a big cosmopolitan market to be in. La La's make up line company is based in Miami and Melo's soccer team in Pueto Rico. The gateway latin financial makeup of Miami and their business's are compatable with living in that city. Thus I conclude he COULD be amicable to playing there and them being a contender. At the same time the faster KP can be Dolans "Star" the better the team/ticket sales, but also the better we can perhaps trade Melo for value and have a higher long term ceiling. In three years Winslow is 23 years old while Melo is 34. No guarantee Winslow is a star, but its why Dragic and perhaps a draft pick our way is in return.

Just thinking it thru. Personally I prefer Melo stay and the team succeed with him but I can't see this team getting the infusion of talent in the short run with him unless there are free agent possibilities that desire to play with KP and Melo. With no pick this year and no high potential Euro's stashed (Henrangomez???) I don't see big upside for next year.

But lets not assume because I/We don't see means it can't happen.
