If this was following the season he had in orlando, he would definitely get Carroll-type money.

I might have preferred Matthews, but you know, a bird in the hand and all...

He was my number one off season target until he injured his achillies - don't think any player has recovered from that

It happens. A good percentage of players never make it back, perhaps around 20-25%? I saw the breakdown once. The real gamble is that it's definitely rare for a player to ever regain their pre-injury abilities 100%, and it's very possible there will be a dramatic drop off.

The thing is, a guy like Matthews was not a player who relied on athleticism. He was a shooter and a rugged defender. He is probably the exact type of player who has a fighting chance at coming back and playing at a level that approximates his pre-injury self. Not 100%, but maybe close. I'd take a gamble on him for the exact contract we just gave Afflalo. What the hell? The Knicks arent going to the Finals next season...

i have to give credit where its due. i like the signing. hes a nice role player on a cheap and short contract. nice one yr rental
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

To be fair Afflalo was injured for much of his time in POR. That team really had sh%tty luck this past season...

A couple ways we can go with the around 20 million we have left.
We can just use it on LMA or D.Jordan and call it a day.
We can sign Monroe and still have another 4/5 million left for another good player.
We can stretch/trade Calderon and have enough to give a 14/15 million offer to T.Harris and then sign Rolo to play the 5.
We have options that could really put us on a path to the playoffs next season.
Using the stretch provision on Calderon can be very much helpful now and if we could trade him then we could sign both LMA and Rolo which would be the best option out there. Could you guys imagine if we ended up with Afflalo, LMA and Rolo?

Grant/Gallo
Afflalo
Melo
LMA
Rolo
Ummmmmmmmmmm yes please.

Just look at his year to year totals. He shots closer to 50% than 40. That alone makes him the best Knick SG since H20.

He's had years where he shot 49%, 48, 46 etc

He is a good player and yes I think he is a better player than Green & Matthews who benefit from the system and playing with Duncan & Aldridge. Affalo is a better fit on this team. He does more than spot up shoot. Phil wants more out of his top guards. Phil won't overpay for a spot up shooter. He will get guys like Paxson, Kerr & Horry for the league minimum not north of $10milto come off the bench and drain 3's. We should add Novak to the end of the bench. He played great here. We need more shooters than just Affalo. We need a cheap specialist now

His WS48 has been BRUTAL the last three years!

Also, why are his assist number so low? Averaging 2 assists per game at guard is really bad.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Brutal for 2 of the last 3 years. It's a gamble that he can return to 2013-14 #s and take some scoring pressure off of Melo I guess. This was probably around Plan E. I think it's adequate. Maybe a C. It might just be the fan in me being generous though.

This signing makes the team more marketable to LMA. It's not just Melo and the boys anymore. We filled gaping needs. Outside shooting and perimeter defense. Turning THJR into Grant and replacing Shumpert at 4/40 with Affalo with 2/16 has to be seen as a huge plus.

I think he was a part of the plan. It was reported the Knicks were signing him before free agency started. 27 mil doesn't seem like as big a number to work with as it did before yesterday. Good signing in my opinion.

Brian Shaw. And it was the last 2yrs not 3. 3yrs ago he averaged 18pts on 46% FG AND 43% 3pt FG. He was the best player on that Denver team even when Gallo was healthy

Not a big Afflalo fan, but very reasonable contract considering the market. Afflalo is def an upgrade and the contract is ver flexible....good deal.

Yeah, the one thing he does well is score. People don't need to keep citing those #s. Everything else is either average (rebounding) or bad (all other #s).

his career WS48 is .087. That is not good at all.

His assist numbers are probably the culprit.

So he is Allan Houston? Honest question. Haven't really seen him play much.

You're one of those people that wouldn't be happy no matter what we did. You'll find the bad in whatever move we make. We got a starting SG that plays both ends of the court for 8 million a year with just a two year contract with a player option on the 2nd. That's a good contract on a good player so be at least a little happy.
