Phil has redeemed himself by fleecing Atlanta. And here I thought Budenholzer knew what he was doing.

Good point. I had forgotten about The Greek Freak 2.0. Let's hope he's drilling 3 after 3 this summer. He can be a 3 and D monster with that athletic ability.

Super super psyched about the Grant trade! Someone took THjr! Haha! Suckers!

Don't know about the 3 part but definitely the D.

I can't believe the Knicks were able to turn Hardaway into a top 20 pick, I couldnt stand Hardaway, never liked his game

Hardaway is a great player in a bad system. You will say wow....he didnt do that for us. Plus i wonder of the trade was a financial move. How many years Hardaway have left on his roookie contract?

Hardaway is not a great player.
Come on.
He's a guy who was sent down to the D league.
Worked on his defense and his game.

The irony is that in Atlanta they run very similar stuff to the Spurs, who run very similar elements to the Triangle.
It was not the Triangle that held back THj,

If so why did he struggle WORSE, as in career worst in Atlanta the 3rd year (and his first year with them)?

Too much bias here.

If it were Triangle, when THj gets to Atlanta he explodes right away. Instead he struggled, so bad, he was sent to the D league.

Then in his contract year, he realizes he may not even get a chance as a free agent, works his tail off in the summer, all of a sudden you see him shoot better, be more active, play with a higher motor, take better shots and he always had the talent. Never was a question of talent with him.

I just worry if now that he gets that contract if he reverts a little. I never expect him to go back to the Atlanta 15-16 (first year) or NY Knick 14-16 player he was, but like most free agents who have a big contract year, he may end up in between the player he was in Atlanta the last 2 months and the player he was the first 3 years of his career.

A decent, reasonable mean expectation for someone like him in the next 4 years would be 13 points a game, 28 minutes and decent defense. Not worth the money he got paid, but better than Afflalo or CLee. He's going to get paid all-star money, when he will produce (most likely) as if he were a top 20 starting level shooting guard.

You have any numbers to back up what you're saying? Statistically, it looks like his improvement started year 1 in Atlanta and not in the time frame you're suggesting.

The first year in Atlanta in comparison to the previous year in NY:

His 3 point percentage went down in Atlanta,
His usage rate went down in Atlanta.
His per 36 minutes points per game went down,
His PER rating as a player went down
His assist rate went down

There were some improvements, but in quite a few categories he played worse.
PER rating is the key proof. It went down as did his overall production from year 3 to year 2, despite changing teams and systems.

He always had the talent. I said that many times.
He just didn't put it together. Now was last 2-3 months of the regular season in Atlanta fools gold? I don't know. Either Atlanta or us will find out. The fact that we made this offer, it means we think that it was no fluke, and that if Melo is out of the picture, as the #1 perimeter shot creating wing, New York's management believes he will continue to produce like he did in Atlanta. 15-16 points a game. Some shots created for teammates.

Hey I like the guy, I don't mind if he comes to the Knicks. I'm happy because atleast he's a young player on the upward trend of his career. This is more like signing Robin Lopez than it is signing Noah. I just hope he doesn't come to the Knicks and then revert into a bench player.

Wow...how wrong a lot of us were...Just goes to show that even the most astute scout can't judge a players heart and what he does when the lights are off...Obviously, Hardaway showed great determination to improve and put the work in. Grant looked really good his senior yr at ND, but he has regressed and didn't improve on his jumper or pg skills. Theres still time for him but will he get a chance?

Getting Grant was almost universally loved around here. If Grant had been as good as many felt he would be, Jackson might still be with the Knicks for all we know.
EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

I sort of wish we has kept Grant and tried to develop him. In hindsight its almost like the trade didn't happen except Atlanta lost a pick and we more or less maxed Timmy
