Th Garden statement was actually correct..The award was due to Dolan improperly firing Anucha Browne not because of sexual harassment..Sexual harassment is the headline and what people remembers..

If Dolan wanted a good person to run the President part of the WNBA how about offering Geno Auriema 5-6mm per year. I think he just a tad more qualified than IT. He wouldnt have to quit his job at Uconn and the proximity would work well. Actually signing Geno would be the number 1 best thing that could happen to the NBA--no one is close to Geno in womens hoops he exceeds any coach in any sport and hes brilliant.

It says right in the article that $6M was because of sexual harrassment and the rest because of the illegal firing.

Browne was awarded $11.6 million from the Garden and chairman Jim Dolan. The jury in Federal District Court in Manhattan split the award into two parts — $6 million due to the hostile work environment that Thomas fostered and the rest because Dolan’s insistence on firing her was deemed punishment for reporting Thomas’ actions to Garden brass, and unconstitutional.
yea... no.

I read the court papers and it seem like Ms. Brown is a smart woman who knows how to navigate the corporate world..Isiah and Dolan had a frat type environment at MSG..Anucha Brown knew she could take advantage of that and she did..Isiah and Dolan slipped and she nailed them..She is no angel..She was inflating numbers on her tax return to the tune of 10s of thousand of dollars claiming expenses at MSG for 5 years..She immediately refiled her tax returns and paid the money to the IRS when Dolan's lawyers requested her tax returns for the prvious 5 years during the trial..

There were no witnesses of this sexual harassment claim..Isiah was calling her a bitch regularly, thus the hostile environment..There may have well had been an environment that may have fostered sexual harassment..I just thought it was strange that one of the guys she said was involved, Marbury's cousin, was actually involved with Dolan's daughter..I doubt he can force his sexual advances on Dolan's daughter..Read the documents yourself, draw your own conclusion...I won't let the NY Post read it for me...

That's funny, I'm reading them right now. I think you may need to re-read page 11. Vernon Manuel is the landscaper who allegedly dated Dolan's daughter. Hassan Gonsalves and Tasheem Ward are Marbury's cousins who are mentioned right before.

I never even heard about this case with the Rangers ice dancer that was settled shortly after: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/msg-settles-sex-harassment-suit-ex-ranger-cheerleader-courtney-prince-article-1.274680

I acknowledge the contradiction of sexual harassment in a case of an employee whose job is to exude sexuality as a form of entertainment but damn.

Do they send hookers to each other in the WNBA too? If David Stern had been in earshot when he said this stuff, would have still been all good?

I'm an adult, I can handle big boy words and scenarios for the most part. But even if I take your perspective that Browne was angling for dirt like this, it makes Isiah naive at best for saying this type of stuff out loud to her.

OK I finished reading the papers. The general jist I got, just so I know we were reading the same thing:

- Browne as SVP Marketing reported to Mills, President/COO of MSG. The papers say she had a "dotted line" relationship to the President of Basketball Ops for the Knicks. In my experience, "dotted line" means that she was an indirect report — while not directly reporting her job performance is dependent on collaboration with the Knicks president who is essentially her superior.

- The beef began March 2004 after a community event she organized involving Knicks players. After the event players went out for Marbury's birthday, partying late.

- Next day Knicks lose a game. Thomas then says that Knicks players aren't doing any more community events. Browne says they have to per NBA. Thomas screams at her calling her a bitch. This was a he-said-she-said thing it looks like, and she reports the incident to Mills, who doesn't do anything.

- She later gets into it with Isiah's chief of staff Frank Murphy, called a bitch again allegedly there. All three are later in a meeting with Mills. Thomas supposedly does a Jeckyl Hyde act: respectful when Mills is in the room, cussing at Browne when he's not.

- Thomas restricts access to Knicks players for community events in contrast to the availability of Rangers players.

- End of 2004 into 2005 Isiah switches up his approach, from venomous to an outpouring of "love" saying he's in love with her, they are a lot alike, etc. The papers say Browne thought the behavior ridiculous. To me, it seems like he decides the "more flies with sugar" approach, and perhaps there is an element of ridicule behind it. I doubt he seriously believed the stuff he was saying, but who knows! Maybe he was a fan of the women's game back then too! Haha...

- Thomas instructs a female staffer to flirt with "certain men connected to the game" and later tells Browne he is pushing for more Sunday noon games so he can use his connection with hotel concierges to lure opponent players into strip clubs Saturday night to hamper their Sunday performances.

- Browne is pressed by Dolan to hire the gardener and Marbury cousins despite being underqualified. She urges the firing of Gonsalves because of harassment in the workplace.

- Marbury is calling her a "black bitch" in multiple instances around multiple people, and she credits Thomas with creating the environment that is undermining her.

- She talks to Mills again, asks if she needs to get counsel. He says don't. She does anyway and counsel makes contact with MSG. But despite getting 5/5 and 4/5 in official reviews, she gets let go, hence the suit.

Not sure where the Jeeping of the intern works into this whole mess.

Just posted my take of the bullet points. And "frat environment" is the whole point: they don't let women join frats! My take on the sexual advances was Isiah using sugar instead of vinegar, a way of joking around and breaking the ice. I've seen this type of thing in real life where a guy really hates a chick but when he sees her pretends he's in love with her. It's part mind game, part ridicule. Just my take though.

Other thing: I don't think "sexual harassment in the workplace" is equivalent to "sexual advances". It can being treated poorly or in a retaliatory manner because of of your sex/gender. Calling a co-worker a "bitch" is bad news in any regard, but calling a man that and a woman that mean two entirely different things, and you are an adult... you know what it means to call a woman that in that context. It's a cousin to "uppity".

Sexual advances is still strong but Dolan was wrong to fire her..She saw an opening and ran with it..The media and some fans don't mind the fanning of flames that Isiah sexual harassed someone..I work in an industry where this was commonplace in the 90s..Strippers were brought into the workplace of people I knew..Women coworkers used to go to strip clubs with us..Women today will go ape sheet with stuff like that..We got banned from strip clubs in early 2000s..I'm familiar with the environment and know how easily people can slip up and can be easily hanged..

I edited my post to add my view on the advances vs. harassment thing. "Hostile work environment on account of sex" or "sexual discrimination" and improper termination is what the case was about. Seeing women employees as uppity, as sexual bait, not tolerating a difference in opinion from a woman when you would just respectfully disagree if it was a man... that's what it was about. It's an entertainment business that employs a sexy dance team, so I'm not blind to the contradictions.

But don't be blind to the lousy combination of business judgement that is the Dolan and Thomas reunion.

I respect that. And while I would groan a bit when I'd see him on NBA TV, I wasn't organizing a boycott or anything. But this gig is a) working at MSG again for b) a women's team because c) Dolan. At least you are saying man, what we did was kinda bugged, I'd never do that now. Isiah and MSG are saying "we never did anything wrong". It's remarkable.

We all evolve with this issue..Stuff I did in 2000 I cant do now, I get that...Doesn't mean a man shouldn't work again..I think the NBA appreciates that line of thought...

I think what they are saying is that they didn't do what Ms. Browne is accusing them of doing...What Ms. Browne is saying is that they are guilty according to the wording of the law..Both could be correct...

this looks like a great fit... put Isiah in charge of women
