I disagree. I had Okafor first nearly 95% of the year and I really like him but there are areas that separate each player and that will become apparent in the nBA. That being said I am happy with either--I would not consider us a loser in anyway rather a big winner. I just feel for our team that Towns would be my preferential pick.

I don't see it that way. I see a towns playing on a stacked team he isn't a focal point he doesn't see doubles or triple teams. With the wildcats it's pick your poison. I see Ok4 getting better exposure to what he will see on a consistent level in the NBA.

I won't mind having Towns just not over OK4 if the choice is given.

You clearly don't watch any Kentucky games to be making that statement.

No Vmart is right. Towns has faced barely any double teams all year Okafor lives with double teams all year almost every minute.

Still I question Okafor's range offensively. His FT shooting is not great at all and he has NOT shown a 12 footer. Obviously hes great at taking the ball from the post of shallow wing and using nimble moves to the basket for a deft touch around 8 feet and in. What happens here though is you are keeping his man near the basket--most likely a shot blocker rim protector. Towns can move in and out.

Exactly

This is how I want our draft to look

1 of Towns or Okafor I wont shed a tear either way.

Below my "hope" is we load up on bigs and find a hybrid PG either mid 2nd and possibly even out of the draft all together.

I really like Rakeem Christmas and Christian Wood to pair with our top dog up top. They are ranked low enough to be potentially realistic to acquire.

Are these guys Vucevic's--no. But what they are are synergy bigs to go along with either guys up top. I see Christmas as underrated--a tough physical athletic player who blossomed this year and who has continued upside. remember the days of Antonio Davis/Dale Davis hard nose athletic physical athletes on the frontline--Rakeem with the caveat--I think he slides towards Al Horford as well--I think he has more offensive game than the Davis's. He can hit that 12 footer and hes just finding his place in the post. HARd to find athletic 250 pound guys.

Wood--not ready for primetime--raw needs development but also has as much potential as Towns or Okafor. When I watch him he has some mannerisms of Donyell Marshall and Anthony Davis. I don't think he has perfect demeanor sometimes i have seen him a little individualistic --perhaps immature at this point both in game body and mind. He needs strength he needs to hone his skills he needs to spend more time in the post to 14 feet and in from the 3 pt line but boy man does he have a boatload of talent. He can start off as a help guy and as he gets stronger and progresses I think hes a athletic 7 foot high end NBA player.

Maximum game output for each players this year against good teams(I always look at this)

Rakeem Christmas

35 points 15 rebounds 6 blocks 5 assists 4 steals 70%+ FT shooter

Christian Wood

31 points 19 rebounds 7 blocks 3 assists 2 steals 4 3pointers 75% FT shooter+

What will it take to acquire both? It will probably take the 2018 pick and either a 2 future's 2's along with some cash and or caps space. Both of these guys are rim protecting bigs who have different skills(but both are two way players who are very athletic) who can rotate with what we draft up top and whoever we may acquire in free agency.

I'm looking range 20-35 for both. If I could take 1 Id probably go with Christmas even though Wood might have more talent.

1 or 2 of the taller athletic hybrid PGs 40-60 (undrafted)Derrick Marks Gary Payton Harrison Wright Dunn Gbinjie etc...
the only positions I care about is PF/C and PG--not looking at anything else here.

there might be a few teams who might not want to take on 1st rd salary. Okc, GSW, Cle, and maybe Portland might trade this years pick for a future pick. Those teams will have to make some tough choices and if they want to keep there current players they might look to save some money. Most of the teams could have team salaries totaling $80m+.

Agreed. We have the recipe to garner extra picks later in rd 1 and into rd 2. Id love to rebuild our frontline in a unique year where big players who would be lottery pick sin other years might even sink into rd 2. Id take my chances with Wood and Christmas over anything I can get lottery protected in 2018 I like Bobby Portis too but hes going to be a lottery pick.

A player I like that can fill out our summer league team is Justin Moss, from Buffalo. This guy plays close to the basket only 6'7 but a very good rebounder and athletic. See dunk on Cauley-Stein. He will be a good roster fill out type player.

But 1st round picks don't make much money and the team will have to fill the roster spot with something anyway. If we had early 2nd round picks to offer, that would help a lot. I don't think all our 2019 2nd rounders will though.

you guys are drunk on Towns. Anthony Davis played 30+ minutes as a freshman. Town's best dominating games come against 6'7-6'8 frontcourt players. You cant look at skills and assume this guy can accomplish these things your hoping for at the NBA level. There are far more failures there than success.

Again.. Towns could be a wonderful NBA player, but the stuff you guys are projecting on for his greatness he hasnt show consistantly on the NCAA level. OK4 gets doubled and pounded from the opening tip, is the focal point of an elite team's offense, is regarded as having one of the most complete NBA skills sets and footwork in CBB *ever*, is 19, 6'11 270lbs, a longer reach than Town, has MUCH better hands than Towns and shoots 65% every night with teams running everything they have at him every night.

The only thing that OK4 is behind on is defense, and most of that stems from his team's need for him to stay on the floor, and he's already an excellent rebounder.

Saying Towns would look better than OK4 next to possible FAs is utterly silly.

I would be happy if we drafted Towns, but over OK4? Pa-leaase.

Just for poops and giggles... For you guys who would pick Towns over OK4, please project what you think his minutes/#s will be his first 3 years. Im curious how close to NBA ready you think he is, because even if Towns is going to be great your still looking at something like this:
year1: 5ppg, 5rebs, 4PFs, 15mpg
year2: 8ppg, 6rebs, 4PFs, 18mpg
year3: 12ppg, 8rebs, 4PFs, 25mpg (probably starts)
year4: 18ppg, 10rebs, 30mpg (23 years old)

And THATS assuming he develops well, doesnt get hurt.

OK4? Lets be realistic.. your talking about a 15/10/55% post player at age 20 in his rookie season.

I quoted you because you first agreed with Briggs that Towns barely faced any double teams then in your very next post, agreed with FistofOakley that Towms is the only one that gets doubled/triple teamed.

he doesnt get doubled very often and he's target when he does because his hands are suspect. He losses a lot of balls in traffic. Also when he's doubled its less because he's an established scorer like OK4, and more because he's playing next to Stein and is often guarded by a 6'6 NCAA PF in a conference with not much size. Go look at his game log and the team's he's playing.

Town's draft stock will most likely come down to his tourney performance. If he has a nice 4-5 games where he plays 30 minutes and puts up some big #s in wins then he will challenge for #1. If its more of what you see now you just cant justify taking him over OK4. Its idiotic.

the latter third of the draft are all filled with pretty sharp front offices... you have the cap projected to go up by 25mm next year... an impending free agent frenzy in this offseason... you really think these teams are just giving up a late 1st rder in this year's draft?

i don't see it... i sincerely hope i'm wrong for our sakes but in this environment especially it's a hard sell...

I'm not going to try to predict 1st year numbers but I've said before about Towns. If he can give you 20+ effective mins he can help solidify our front court offensively and defensively in year one. 10pts, 6rebs, 2-3blocks whatever it is. Each year as his minutes expand he will give us more.

I can see Ok4 put up 15pts & 8-10rebs. But I can also see him be a Boozer/Jefferson "numbers guy" type and bounce around because albeit it a very productive and dynamic offensive player but a player with defensive limitations. No Tim Duncan/Karl Malone. You need a really good rim protector and even then Melo & Ok4 might be too much to overcome. Melo won 54 games with Tyson so maybe its possible. I just feel Ok lacks the athleticism to be a truly great franchise cornerstone who can hand super atheletic, defensive and offensive minded nba PF gazelles.

Towns should be able to compliment any PF or C

Because I've seen him play defense. I've seen how unstoppable Kentucky looks when he is on the floor vs when Johnson is in.

He is averaging 2.4blks a game to Stein's 1.5 in 5 less mpg. Maybe Towns if a PF in the NBA or maybe Stein has seniority. PF or Center he is going to be great imho. OK4 is averaging 1.5blks btw.

Are you sure you are watching Kentucky? If you are you are not seeing the whole picture imo

Not that its the be all end all, but since you feel people are overrating Towns defense,
nbadraft.net has Divac/Bogut as being comparable to Towns. They have Al Jefferson for Ok4

I'd rather have Divac & a healthy Bogut or focused Bynum than Jefferson/Boozer

I think this is pretty pessimistic considering what OK4 is already showing. OK4 is a beast in terms of production. A 270 pound 6-11 big with 7-5 wingspan and huge soft hands. OK4 already passes well and he can put the ball on the floor and drive too. He runs the floor well and despite people talking about his athletic ability he finishes strong. His handles and agility are unbelievable for a guys his size.

Ok4 is a better passer than Jefferson/Boozer I will give you that
Karl Towns is more Duncan than Okafor
