I knew he'd be a good passer and had driving ability. The only things that were a question were his shooting and his defense. He really has taken advantage of his opportunity. Phil and his staff did a nice job bringing him in. He was targeted by Phil. Shved wasn't just an add on to a trade. they used part of a Trade Exception he got for Felton in order to trade for Shved in what was basically a separate trade from the Prigioni trade for 2 picks. Like Galloway, Shved was a legit scouting win.

I was one of those whom laughed, and now I look foolish!

Can we decide whether to give him the qualifying offer ($4mil or whatever it is), after we've found out what free agents we can sign- or is there some sort of deadline for picking it up before free agency? Even though he's surprised me, $4mil of our $26mil is quite a big chunk that we might need.

I mean he looks good... in fact he looks great. So if he keeps this up at some point you have to decide when your going to pay. I mean not every guy is going to be cheap AND great. If Sved plays like he has been then you extend the QO for sure.

10 games as a Knick: 13/5/3 and shooting 38% and playing good defense as well.
In 3 starts he's putting up 18ppg, 7rebs and 5 assists and shooting very well, and most of all impacting the game. He's not just stuffing the stat sheet, he's making really good plays.

So unless he totally drops off you pick up the QO and at the very worst control his destiny. More than happy to pay $4mm next year for a 1 year deal to keep him around (the QO).

Yeah, I know his stats, and that's not impressive enough over a 10 game stretch to take up $6m. I hope he does keep up his good play though because it would be nice to have a player doing what he is doing. Hopefully, he goes to the gym to work on his shooting(shot selection) and work with a dietitian nutritionist.

well... risk/reward

Why is his cap hold $6mm when his QO is $4mm? That doest make much sence to me, your sure about that?

What if he's holds this up, plays the last 20 games as a starter, looks really good and puts up 15ppg, 6rebs, 5assists and shoots 42% in 30 minutes?

How do you NOT at least give him th QO and bring him back for a year at $4mm? Unless someone offers him a bigger deal and we have to decide if we want to match it.

What really makes me feel positive is he hasnt shot very well, but has still played well. As opposed to Shump starting year at 50% FGs when you know thats going to tail off. Shved hasnt shot well but is still playing great. Tells me he brings many other dimensions and can do several things to impact the game

exactly how I feel.

If this guy could shoot a lick he would be ridiculously off the charts.

He has played some pretty bad teams and that FG% will become a problem if he isn't getting those calls. He has more games to go and hopefully he will play some of the better teams when they are not resting their stars. I want to see him over the next 3 games.

Yes I'm sure about his Cap hold being higher. I am keeping an open mind I just want to see more. I am seeing a good back up. They would still need to get another pg in FA though.

Most of his shooting issues have been based on decision making.

The other day when he was shooting 3s within the flow of the offense he was fine.

When he rushes the 3s he seems to have problems.

He's also made some poor shots off drives... perhaps expecting to get a foul called, but I'm not sure. He's been better going to the basket recently, and has made some nice passes off his drives.

Consistency goes hand in hand with decision making. His form is decent, though his shot is a bit flatter than is ideal, but he looks like he can be effective if he doesn't force things.

Hopefully he plays within the system and his own abilities, and we get a player who can be a solid contributor next year.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

It's just insane for anyone watching Shved to not recognize that he's not a gimmick. He's displaying pure BB instincts and skills. You can't fake it. Either you know how to play or you don't. He's not getting by on some hot shooting streak. Dude is passing, driving, rebounding, pushing the ball and even defending decently. Those things aren't flukes. He's always had those kinds of skills and his size is great at PG. Read his scouting report and watch game tape and you see he's always done these things.

All of that from a skinny kid who came in here with no training came and just picked put the Triangle and made it his bitch. People doubted him cuz they didn't know his skill level or anything about him. You look at his stats as if that's the true measure of his talent but you have also take into account the situations he found himself in. He's never really had a chance to prove himself. Here in NY he's been given a real chance to prove himself like all of the castoffs we have.

IMO Shved is worth spending $4 mil on. Who are we going to get at that price who we KNOW is able to excel in the Triangle as a guard? We know that not every player can thrive in this system. However, some players are tailor made for this style of ball and it could be that Shved is that kind of player. If we can put a legit starting quality 2 way SG next to him I think it works perfectly.

I agree. His play has been refreshing. His assist numbers will go up with better teammates. He sees the floor really well and as Walt said, he shoots much better within the flow of the offense.

Extremely low sample size but Alexey Shved has the 2nd highest PER for the #Knicks this season. .2 below Melo.
