if we are unable to lure any impact players this off season, would Melo prefer a trade to a contender?
CA makes more money if he is traded to Houston and goes to a contender with Harden, D12, Ariza, Terrence Jones, etc...

While CA holds a no trade clause, with the asset's Houston has been collecting in addition to all of their own, I wonder what price would Morey be willing to part with to form a big 3 in Houston
Something like 1 1st round pick and 4 2nd rounders would be my bottom price with DMO, Koustas PAP, and maybe need to sign and trade a higher price of a player to fit the salaries of Beverely or somebody

That trade is nauseating to me. We'd be giving up a blue chip talent for a late first round pick and some inconsequential talent. No bueno. The Rockets would have to offer more to us, if I were the one running the show.

Millsap will cost the max and Matthews will cost at least 10-12 per year.

+1. If Alec Burks could get better than $9 million per, you better believe that Wes Matthews is going to be making 8 figures per, as well.

Picks owned by Houston and they own ALL OF THEIR OWN 1st and 2nd rounders (outside of 1 1st round pick, to Lakers for sending Lin to Lakers)
==============================================================================================================================================

2015 first round draft pick from New Orleans
New Orleans' 1st round pick to Houston protected for selections 1-3 and 20-30 in 2015, 1-3 and 20-30 in 2016, 1-3 and 20-30 in 2017, 1-3 and 20-30 in 2018, 1-3 and 25-30 in 2019 and 1-3 and 25-30 in 2020; if New Orleans has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Houston by 2020, then New Orleans will instead convey its 2020 2nd round pick and 2021 2nd round pick to Houston [Houston-New Orleans-Washington, 7/15/2014]

2015 second round draft pick from New York
New York's 2015 2nd round pick to Houston [Houston-New York, 7/11/2012]

2015 second round draft pick from Minnesota
Minnesota will convey the less favorable of its 2015 2nd round pick and Denver's 2015 2nd round pick to Houston (via Portland) [Denver-Minnesota-New York, 2/22/2011 then Minnesota-Portland, 6/27/2011 then Houston-Portland, 7/10/2013]

2015 second round draft pick from Sacramento
Sacramento's 2015 2nd round pick to Houston protected for selections 50-60 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Houston will be extinguished) [Houston-Sacramento, 9/17/2014]

2016 second round draft pick from New York
New York's 2016 2nd round pick to Houston (via Portland to Sacramento then removal of protection from New York) [New York-Portland, 7/15/2012 then New Orleans-Portland-Sacramento, 7/10/2013 then New York-Sacramento, 8/6/2014 then Houston-Sacramento, 9/17/2014]

2017 second round draft pick from Portland
Portland's 2017 2nd round pick to Houston [Houston-Portland, 7/10/2013]

Again, I was saying that would be my BOTTOM price
Of course I would prefer more

We would get back 3 of our own 2nd rounders and 1 more 2nd rounder
Maybe we could get 1 protected 1st rounder but 2 1st rounders and 4 2nd round picks and 3 of them would be our own (so it likely will be HIGH 2nd rounders)

but

Morey loves to win trades and abuse rape the Knicks in trades

We would have to wait till the summer to do any trades, where Houston could send us about 10m in a trade exemption but we would still need to take back some contracts of about 15m (if they want to include other players, we would have to add those salaries as well and I would not include Adekenenpo as I think he would be a key piece for our future)

would need to add up to about 10-15m in salaries

Kostas Papanikolaou 5m per year, NON GUARANTEED contract
Donatas Motiejunas 2.2m (will be an expiring after the 2015 season but he looks much improved)

I don't think they would include Ariza, Terrence Jones, on top of Harden or D12, while it is also unlikely for Patrick Beverely unless Houston doesn't want to pay him, he would be a restricted FA this summer
We probably would need to do a sign and trade for a player like Terry (1st year guaranteed and team option after), just to make the salaries work
If Beverely would available, would we rather have Beverely in a sign and trade for about 8m per year on a 3 year deal?

With our lack of assets and our inability to attract FA's, we simply cannot build a team with CA that will be able to contend before he will be in decline
And I am pretty sure Morey would rather have LA and even Kevin Love by signing them and keeping their assets
If they are interested in Chris Bosh, I would not be surprised if Riley is willing to trade him and even a lower price than what I we would want back for CA

So we need to build a winning culture and we need to completely bottom out and if all goes well, we could have some nice young players/talents and have cap space in 2017 when Durant and Noah will be FA's
This is a pretty deep draft and if we can develop these talents in addition to some younger talents currently on our D League system, it will take time but it could turn around

Of that list, if you take away the 'not a hope in hell's, it leaves these possibilities:

Dragic
Brook Lopez
Greg Monroe
Reggie Jackson
Paul Millsap (may be about to age and decline)
Hibbert (think he would be crushed by the media- he seems very fragile confidence wise)
Afflalo (may be about to decline with age)
David West
Jeff Green
Asik
Thaddeus Young
Wesley Mathews (Like with Robin, I suspect he stays due to familiarity and his team doing well)
Tobias Harris
Patrick Beverly
Robin Lopez (Though I suspect he stays- team doing well)

To be honest, that's not great. I'd love Jimmy Butler but he said he wants to stay in Chicago. Does Greg Monroe make sense if we land OK4 in the draft? At this point, I don't really think we can improve enough to make the playoffs and keep Melo happy next season.

Millsap at $12mm is about right. He's essentially David West.

I would be shocked if he doesn't get max or near max. He was an all-star last year and has been the best player on a pretty good team. He is also a 2-way player who does a little bit of everything. While 12 mil seems about right, free agents will get overpaid. 12 mil would be a bargain, 15 mil starting out is more like it.
