I'm pretty sure Carmelo will take less than $129 million. Not saying it will be five years $100 but it won't be $129 million
Watch it will probably be 120-125 million and he will say he took less lol
which would still make him the highest paid player in the game.
Exactly which is crazy when you think of guys like lebron durant duncan parker dirk and even noah who have had more success especially in postseason
It's not crazy when you realize that these salaries and the amount you can make are set in stone and all depend on the years you have put in. Dirk and Duncan have had max salaries in the past. Durant hasn't put in as many years as Melo yet, but do you have any doubt that he wont get his money? If Lebron stays in Miami, he would have gotten more as well....
Oh it's *not* crazy when you look at it from Melo's perspective. But that's not my concern. I'm looking at it from the Knicks' perspective. We have to find a way to build a team that competes against teams with hall-of-famers making only around $10 mil a year (SAS) or the best player on the planet making millions less than Melo.
You (and some others here) seem to be looking at this only from Melo's perspective, not from the Knicks' perspective IMO. If it's a max contract without a no-trade clause, then I think it's a bad deal but I'd understand what Phil was thinking at it's not impossible that it would work out. If it has a no-trade clause too, then I don't even know what to say.
